Introduction:

Darksiders 2 is a third person Action/Adventure game with several distinct RPG elements. The game follows the story of Death, one of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, during his journey to redeem his brother War. His brother was accused of destroying Earth and prematurely bringing about the Apocalypse. Death believes he is innocent and sets out to prove War's innocence, in any way possible.

Oddly enough, the majority of the game takes place concurrently with the events of Darksiders 1. It is not a prequel nor is it a true sequel. Because of this if you did not play the first installment you will not be missing out on virtually any plot element. In fact, there are only brief references to the events of the first game and the characters in it. Each occurrence of this acts as a pleasant Easter egg for fans of the original.

I hope that you enjoy the game, this guide, and the trophy hunting to come.

Walkthrough:

Glitch/Crash Warning: This issue exclusively pertains to the Deathinitive Edition on PS4. See the spoiler below for more information if you are playing on this version.

[spoiler=crashing]Some players are experiencing a large number of crashes while playing the Deathinitive Edition. The crashes most frequently occur while doing large amounts of damage to multiple targets. The frequency increases with the more damage you do, resulting in high Critical Damage/Chance builds to crash more often.

The only known solution as of now is to disable the Damage Indicators (Floating Combat Text). This should help reduce and potentially eliminate crashing. If you'd like more help or to discuss the issue further, please visit this thread.

Credit to Theophobos for bringing this to my attention and providing the fix.

When you complete the game you have the option to continue on your current save, which lets you complete all of the side quests (including the collectibles), or import your character into New Game+. If you choose to import it your original save will be overwritten and you will not be able to access it again. In New Game+ all of your characters stats, gear, skills, and abilities will be imported to a fresh game. However, all of your quest related items will be gone as well, except for boatman coins, because they are not associated with a specific quest and are therefore another form of currency. So if you collected 39 out of 40 Pages of Death and did not complete it before overwriting the save, you will have to collect them all over again.

In order to obtain the platinum in Darksiders 2 you will have to play on New Game+ for at least a little while. The reason is that when you hit level 22 on your first playthrough, you will literally stop gaining experience from killing monsters. You will still get quest experience though. Depending on when you hit level 22 in the story progression and how many side quests you completed prior to then, you can get to level 23 and a half from quest experience alone by the end of your first playthrough. However, the experience for the additional level will not appear until you begin New Game+.

What does this mean for you and your pursuit of the platinum? Well, it means that you will have to play on New Game+ to get the Epic!, Is There Anyone Else? and Bravo Old Chap trophies. The rest can be obtained on your first playthrough of the game.

The fastest way to get the platinum is to beat the game on Apocalyptic difficulty on your very first playthrough. If you do, you will not have to beat the entire game a second time to get it, which will save you a lot of time.

If, however, you choose to play it on Easy or Normal to begin with, you will have to select NG+ when the game ends and set it to the Apocalyptic difficulty, then clear the entire game for a second time. If you are very new to action/adventure games or just enjoy playing through a story multiple times, this method is probably ideal for you.

Step 1

Beat the game.

Due to the very convenient New Game+ feature and the ability to continue playing after the final boss, you don't have to worry about not doing a specific side quest early on, or getting all of the collectibles quickly. This means there is no need to hold back the ending to search for one or two collectibles, or finish all the side quests and whatnot. Simply enjoy beating and playing the game any way you see fit.

However, I do advise that you track which collectibles you have found during this step, using the Collectible's Checklist located at the end of this guide. Simply print it out and check them off as you find them. It will make the cleanup and backtracking to previously inaccessible areas substantially easier. Even if you are following a collectibles guide I still suggest you track the ones you find, because mistakes can happen.

Step 2

Trophy cleanup

Now that you have beaten the game you should have only a few things left to do. You need to make sure that you have unlocked all of the following trophies before you go to a New Game+:

  • GnoMad
  • Abracadabra
  • The Secondary Adventure

If you do not finish these three trophies before moving on to NG+, you will be forced to complete 100% of the story a second time to unlock them. This is due to the fact that the final collectible required for each of these trophies, is located at the very end of the final dungeon in the game. Not only that, but if the side quest you forgot to complete was a collectible one you will have to recollect all of them yet again. So remember: Do not start New Game+ without the aforementioned trophies!

In addition to the above trophies, if for some reason you forget to unlock Full Potential, Like A Noss, Triple Lindy or I've Brought You A Gift before you go on to New Game+ it's not the end of the world. Because you have to hit level 30 anyway for the Epic! trophy you will play far enough into your NG+ run to complete them all, without having to finish the entire game again. However, it is a good idea to get them out of the way as well so you can have a carefree time on your New Game+ play through.

Step 3

New Game+ and both Crucible Trophies

If you have successfully completed steps 1 and 2 you should only have the following trophies trophies to unlock:

  • Epic!
  • Is There Anyone Else?
  • Bravo Old Chap

Now all you need to do is play through the game until you hit level 30, then refer to the Crucible related trophy walkthroughs below. What should be at the top of your priority list at this point of the game is items with Experience on them. It is possible to get just over 50% experience from items alone (~10% on each armor slot + ~10% on the talisman=~50%). However, +10% experience is rather difficult to come across, so don't worry if you have to settle for 7%-9%.

Because you are playing on Easy difficulty the other stats won't be quite as big of a factor. Just be sure to use at least 2 other primary stats in addition to the experience affix. For example: Uncommon boots with critical damage, decent defense, and experience would work fine for a Harbringer. But even a set of rare or elite boots with bad defense, arcane, and experience would be terrible for a Harbringer build and probably hinder you more than help you. If for some reason your NG+ is on Apocalyptic—most likely because you did the first playthrough on Easy/Normal—then make sure the items with experience on them are always good, otherwise you risk the chance of dying quite often. Remember; the higher +EXP you have, the faster you will hit 30 and can platinum the game.

Once you reach level thirty you should head over to the crucible to unlock the final two trophies for your platinum.

C63.jpg  Mass Ruckus (B)

To get this trophy you must equip an elite (purple) item in all seven of Deaths item slots at the same time. This means you need an elite item for your Scythes, Secondary Weapons, Shoulders, Armor, *Gloves, Boots, and Talisman slots.

If you try to equip a higher quality item such as a legendary or possessed item in a slot, along with elites, the trophy will not unlock. The items must be of the elite tier, no higher, no lower.

The level of the elite item does not impact the trophy in any way, so you can have lower level items saved for later if you are concerned about getting this early on. You should have absolutely no problem completing this trophy if you play through the entire game. If you are struggling to find an item for a specific slot you can go to one of the vendors and purchase them as well.

There are six different tiers of items in all, starting with the the lowest tier (common) to the highest (legendary):

Important note: This is the point of no return. If you walk into the tree you will not be able to leave until you kill the final boss. This is not that big of a deal since you can continue afterwards, but it is still worth mentioning for those that would rather complete the side quests before so much as seeing the final boss.

496.jpg  The Secondary Adventure (S)

Complete all Secondary Quests

There are a total of 17 side quests in Darksiders 2, not including additional DLC, such as the four given in Death Rides pack or any future content. The four collection quests are called "Sticks and Stones", "Lost Relics", "The Book of the Dead", and "GnoMAD". Gnomad and The Book of the Dead have trophies of the same name connected with them; so you refer to their specific guides for assistance. Note that you will not be able to complete any of the collection quests until the very end of the game, despite being given them fairly early on.

To check how many of the side quests you have completed press :select: and go to the "Stats" page, which has a question mark for its symbol. Scroll to the bottom of the list to view the Secondary Quests Completed stat. If you have not done any of the optional DLC side quests the trophy will unlock when the counter reaches 17. However, if you plan on doing DLC side quests and are concerned about keeping track accurately you will have to distinguish between the DLC and non-DLC side quests yourself.

Because there is no way to know exactly which quests you have completed, you can track them using the side-quest mini-guide that I've compiled, which is located here: Darksiders 2 Side-Quest Mini-Guide

8FA.jpg  Grim Reaping (B)

Unlock Reaper Form

This is story related trophy that will unlock naturally during your playthrough of the game. For additional information with potential spoilers, read the detailed description below.

At level 6 you will automatically unlocks Death's Grim Reaper form, that is activated by pressing :l1:+:r2:. You do not need to actually trigger reaper form or do anything extra, besides hit level 6, for this trophy to unlock.

3CF.jpg  Bravo Old Chap (B)

Defeat Wicked K

Requires the Crucible Online Pass

Wicked K is the secret boss found at the end of the Crucible. Wicked K automatically unlocks if you clear waves 1-25, 25-50, 50-75, or 75-100 in one go without quitting (Credit to kakihara301). After you clear one set of the waves you will be able to face Wicked K whenever you want. So do not worry about dying on him and having to repeat a series of 25 waves again to attempt him.

For more information about the Crucible see the Is There Anyone Else? trophy in this guide.

FCB.jpg  Respec Yourself (S)

Your First Respec

You can respec (reset) your skills at any time by visiting Vulgrim at any one of his multiple locations, and paying him 1000 glit (gold). All of your skill points will be refunded so that you may redistribute them as you see fit.

Vulgrim is located in the Weeping Crag, The Fjord, Serpent's Peak and Lostlight. He can also be fast traveled to in order to save you a lot of time.

Important Facts:

  • There is no limit to how many times you can respec throughout the game, or within a given time period.
  • You must have all of your skill points currently distributed to use the respec. If you have unspent points he will not do it.
  • Despite it being named the "Respec Token" it is not an item that you can take with you. When you pay him he automatically resets your skills.

B7C.jpg  Is There Anyone Else? (S)

Complete the Crucible

Requires the Crucible Online Pass

To participate in the Crucible you must first redeem a Crucible pass that comes with every new copy of Darksiders 2. If you rented the game or bought it second hand you can purchase the code on the PSN. Once you have done so you need to complete the Dust to Dust trophy before you are "formally invited" to do the first stage of it. You will be notified via a tome sent to you that you can participate.*

Don't forget that you must take the Fool card out of the tome in order to enter and fight in the first stage. The following two stages are unlocked after you obtain the Soul Crushing and It's Not Over trophies, with the final stage unlocking at level 25. Like the first card that unlocked the first stage of the Crucible, the Emperor, Strength and Devil cards must be removed from the tome to do their respective stages. Once the card is in your inventory it will stay with you forever, even into New Game+.

There is a total of four stages, consisting of 100 total waves, or 25 waves per stage. In order to do all 100 waves and complete the crucible you must first hit level 25, which requires you to have beaten the game once and continue on New Game+.

The best way to fully clear the Crucible efficiently and with the least amount of trouble, is to hit level 30 and set it to Easy difficulty. Just be sure not to change it to Easy until you no longer need any of the difficulty trophies.

Important Facts:

  • You do not need to beat it in one sitting to get the trophy.
  • After you beat 25 waves you can begin from the next stage. You do not have to repeatedly clear all waves. So if you beat waves 1-25 (Stage 1) then go play the main quest, you can come back and start at Wave 26 (Stage 2).
  • To unlock wave 101 and fight Wicked K for the Bravo Old Chap trophy you must clear waves 1-100 in one sitting, without dying or restarting. It will remain unlocked just like every other stage.
  • The Crucible does not give EXP for killing creatures, so you can't use it to grind any levels.
  • Difficulty settings directly affect how hard the crucible is.

201.jpg  Like a Noss (B)

Defeat the four creatures named by Thane

Once you reach Tri-Stone you can find Thane located at the training dummies to the right of the entrance. Speak with him and you will be able to challenge him to a fight. Once you defeat him he will offer you a quest to slay four different creatures, in order to prove yourself as the “true reaper”. The creatures, their levels and their locations can be seen below. They are also in the order which you will be able to first attempt them in the game progression:

  • Gorewood (Level 10) - Located in the Weeping Crag
Go to the door with a purple Skeleton on it then turn to your right. Climb across and make your way through the section until you locate the Skeleton key in a chest. Return to the Skeleton Key door and unlock it. You will then come to a section with a long hallway with no ground, only water. Dive into the water and find the tunnel hidden within it. You will eventually come out into a grove where Gorewood is.

  • Bheithir (Level 15)- Located in the Nook
A giant dragon/balrog looking creature that circles the lower lava area in the Nook. You will not be able to engage him until you have collected Deathgrip from The Foundry. Once you do you can come back and cross to the bridge, then shoot him with Redemption to make him land.

  • Deposed King/Argul (Level 20) - Located in the Lair of the Deposed King
The third and highest level creature you can fight is the Deposed King. You will come across his lair just after you enter the Kingdom of the Dead. However, he is very powerful and should be killed closer to level 20. There is no real incentive for killing it much earlier than that, unless you like to challenge yourself. I would advise you to come back once he is the last remaining Noss creature.
  • Achidna - (Level 15) - Located in Psychomera
Giant spider boss that is assisting Basileus, one of the Dead Lords. You will have to kill her to complete the main story quest “Court of Bones”, making it impossible to miss if you complete the game. You will also unlock the Court of Bones trophy after she dies.

Open all Death Tombsl

Every time you collect ten pages of the Book of the Dead, the pages will automatically combine into one chapter. When this happens you can visit Vulgrim and sell the chapter to him for a special reward: a key to a Death Tomb. There are a total of 40 pages in the Book of the Dead which means that there are 4 chapters, and 4 different Death Tombs. The tombs have chests in them that give out a lot of items in addition to one unique legendary item.

Each set of ten pages grants you a key that opens up a specific tomb, so you can't just use any key on whichever tomb you like. The first ten pages you turn in will give you a key to the first door in the game, and so on. The tombs are giant doors with a demon face on it, surrounded by four symbols that represent each of the Four Horseman.

The tomb's locations can be found below:

First Tomb (Forged Lands)- Between the Nook and the Lost Temple areas. Fast travel to the Lost Temple and walk forward until you see the tomb on your right.

- Legendary Item: Blade Master Talisman

Second Tomb (Kingdom of the Dead)- Enter the Lair of the Deposed king and go to the bottom of the winding staircase. It is a very long staircase so don't stop before you hit the bottom.

- Legendary Item: Demonheart Talisman

Third Tomb (Lostlight)- In the realm of Lostlight if you look on the left side of the map you will see a circular area. This is where the tomb is.

- Legendary Item: Hoardseeker Talisman

Fourth Tomb (Shadow's Edge)- It is on the right hand side right after you pass Ostegoth on the way to the Black Stone.

- Legendary Item: Spear of Storms

Here is a video walkthrough for locating the tombs:

2D9.jpg  Epic! (B)

Death Reaches Level 30

In order to reach level 30 you will have to play on New Game+. The reason for this is that on your first playthrough, the game stops awarding experience for killing monsters at level 22. Prior to that you will no longer gain experience from any creature starting at level 20, unless they are in the Black Stone. However, you still receive full experience for any quest that you complete regardless of what level you are at the end of the game.

Depending on when you reach level 20 in the story progression, as well as how many side quests you completed prior to then, it is possible to reach level 22 before the end of your first playthrough. After that you must play on New Game+ gain any more experience. As a side note, the Crucible and Arbiter's Maze do not give any experience, so you can't go there and grind your way to max level.

The best way to hit 30 quickly and efficiently is to stack as much +Experience as possible. This modification can be found on all of the armor pieces, including the talisman, but there are no weapons with it. To check your current +Experience total go to your Inventory by pressing the :select: button, then go to the Inventory tab (shaped like a Scythe). Once you get there press the :square: button twice and at the bottom you will see your Experience stat. The higher that you can get that number the better.

B25.jpg  Feeding Time (B)

Level Up Your 1st Possessed Weapon

Despite what the trophy description says you do not need to level up the first possessed weapon that you find. You simply need to level up any possessed weapon one level. To do this you must select it with :cross: and choose the "Upgrade" option. From there you choose the item(s) that you want to sacrifice (feed) it. The better the item, the more it will level up.

You can see the experience progression bar at the top right, as well as how many levels it has. The levels are represented by skulls, so the maximum level you can raise it by is 5. Feed it until it reaches level 2 and your trophy will unlock.

For additional help and information on making the best possessed weapon's in the game, please refer to the Possessed Weapon Guide.

Gift An Item To A Friend

Unobtainable due to server closure.

The servers for this game have always been bad but in February 2016, they were closed without warning so this trophy is now no longer possible. This only affects the PS3 version since the PS4 release has no online trophies.

Requires the Crucible Online Pass

You must be online for this trophy and have a friend that is also playing Darksiders 2. If you do not have any friends playing the game, you can find someone from the Trophy Boosting thread to help you.

Head to any of the Serpent Tome's in the game and access it—the first of which is located in Tri-Stone. Press :r1: to select the Online Inbox. Then go to "Add Gift..." and a list of your friends will appear. Choose the one that has the game and send them any item you want from your list. Close the tome and shortly thereafter the trophy will unlock.

Another method is to create a separate account on your PS3 and add it as a friend on your main account. Now play Darksiders II on your alternate account, log off and send an item to it from your main account.

Complete Sticks and Stones

On the Western wall of the Fjord you can get the quest “Sticks and Stones” from a golem named Blackroot. He asks you to find three different types of Stonebites for him—Mystic, Power, and Resistance—so he can be fully restored.

Here are the total number of each type of stone:

  • 34 Mystic
  • 25 Power
  • 10 Resistance

Once you have collected all of the stones return to Blackroot and speak with him. Be sure to not trade in any stones while he is rewarding you for completing the quest, because if you do it will crash the game. Wait until he is completely finished talking. He will reward you with a legendary scythe called Guillotene. It is important to note that you do not need to turn in a single stone to actually complete this quest and unlock the trophy. You merely need to have collected all the stones and talk with him.

There are multiple combinations that you can make with the Mystic, Power, and Resistance stones. When you turn three of them (at a time) to Blackroot he rewards you with extremely potent, permanent stat bonuses. You cannot undo the stats, so be sure you get what you want. I advise saving before turning them in, just in case you make a mistake.

To watch a complete walkthrough of all 69 Stonebite locations, please click the video below

Credit to

PowerPyx for the video

Below are all of the combinations as well as the stats that are given:

  • 3 Mystic = 5 Arcane
  • 3 Power = 5 Strength
  • 3 Resistance = 20 Resistance

  • 2 Mystic + 1 Power= 2% arcane crit chance
  • 2 Mystic + 1 Resistance = 10% Arcane Critical Damage

  • 2 Power + 1 Mystic = 2% critical chance
  • 2 Power + 1 Resistance = 10% critical damage

  • 2 Resistance + 1 Mystic = 20 Wrath
  • 2 Resistance + 1 Power = 20 Defense

  • 1 Power + 1 Mystic + 1 Resistance= 30 Health

Unlock All Combat Moves & Upgrades

When you reach the Eternal Throne in the Kingdom of the Dead you will see a bunch of blue ghosts on the deck. In the center of them all is a smaller, hooded ghost named Draven. Speak with him and he will offer you training. Unlike Thane who has only a small number of combat moves, Draven has every single combat move and upgrade that you need.

To fully upgrade you will need to spend roughly 150,000 Gilt. Because most people will not want/use every skill, or want to shell out 150k that early in the game, you can save prior to training them all. Then, after the trophy unlocks, you can quit the game and load the save. Or you can just buy them all if you have the money and do not care either way.

I've Brought You A Gift (B)

Defeat the Soul Arbiter

The Arbiter’s Maze is located in farthest East-Northeastern corner of The Maw, in the Kingdom of the Dead realm. It is comprised of ten different arena based levels, each of which must be navigated through by using portals after each successful wave. Once you have completed all of the waves on a specific level AND successfully found the exit, you will move on to the next level. There are also secret rooms on each level, but they are not required for the trophy.

There is also a side quest given by the Chancellor at the Eternal Throne, which asks you to kill the Arbiter on level 10. You need to complete it for the The Secondary Adventure trophy so don't forget to pick it up.

In order to complete the maze with ease there are 20 Arbiter’s Scrolls scattered throughout the game. Each one tells you a route you must take to reach the exit or a secret on a respective floor. However, there is no trophy or side quest directly related to the scrolls, so you can just use the following directions to navigate it successfully:

If you intend to print the maze directions below, please be sure to open spoiler first, otherwise all of the directions will be hidden.

Collectible's Checklist

The list below will act as a checklist for you while you playthrough the game. It will help you a great deal when backtracking for stray collectibles, so you can easily complete collectible quests and trophies in Darksiders 2. There are four types of collectibles in the game that you must get to complete The Secondary Adventure trophy, as well as the Antiquing, All You Can Eat Buffet, The Book of the Dead and Gnomad trophies.

There are also two types of collectibles that are not trophy related in this game called Boatman Coins and Soul Arbiter Scrolls. Due to their lack of trophy related content I will not include them in the list, so it is up to you if you want to fervently collect and track them.

On the Western wall of the Fjord you can get the quest “Sticks and Stones” quest from a golem named Blackroot. He asks you to find three different types of Stonebites for him—Mystic, Power, and Resistance—so he can be fully restored.

Here are the total number of each type of stone:

  • 34 Mystic
  • 25 Power
  • 10 Resistance

There are 34 Mystic stones, not 35.

Also, working on a locations guide for these and relics etc I hope? Looking good otherwise.

Ya my bad. I wrote it as a 5 because every single other collectible in the game ends with a 5 or a 0 as the amount. Not joking, all of them but that one. I actually knew very well it was 34 because I was stuck at 33 and furious for several hours while I searched.

As for the other guides...I'm not so sure :(. I personally think a combination of video and picture tutorials is the best way to do collectibles. Certain tasks are so complex that they are hard to describe in words. So we'll see what happens with it.

This guide would have literally been finished by Thursday morning, had I not tried to catalog ALL of the collectibles with detailed descriptions while playing. That coupled with a major glitch pretty much killed my progress. I was even recording the coins and scrolls, which in retrospect was a bad idea to do that since there is no trophy for either of them.

Oh ya I do intend to do a thorough crucible guide, kind of like the one I did for the Challenge of Olympus in God of War 3. I was going to do a boss guide but to be honest they don't warrant a full guide. Maybe just a brief once over of their abilities and patterns, but nothing more.

I not sure if you´re right about the 2.5 playthroughs if you doesn´t start on Apocalyptic right away

People (and the Achievements Guide and Road Map at 360achievements.com) are saying that you CAN start a New Game on Easy/Normal, finish up and receive the trophy, then continue onto a new start with New Game+ on Apocalyptic and receive the respective trophy at the end.

So, it would be like:

- Playthroughs needed if started on Apocalyptic: 1.5 (finish game + lvl up to 30 on New Game+)

- Playthroughs needed if started on Easy/Normal: 2 (finish game both times for the two difficulty trophies - New Game on Normal and New Game+ on Apocalyptic. Lvl 30 should come naturally over the 2nd playthrough)...

But you on this guide are saying that if you start on Easy/Normal and then proceed to Apocalyptic on New Game+ that you will NOT receive the trophy for that difficulty...

Can ANYBODY verify this???

Gread guide nonetheless!
