Batman: Arkham Origins Rumoured for Next-Gen E3 Reveal

More rumours pointing to Warner Bros. upcoming Batman Arkham title confirmed last month for release this year have surfaced today, suggesting that Batman: Arkham Origins could be heading to next-generation and current consoles, with Rocksteady once again handling development.

French website Gameblog claims it was given the tip by unnamed industry sources, with the 'Origins' suffix pointing to previous rumours stating that the game could be a prequel set during DC's Batman Silver Age period in which Bats first encounters the Joker, with Justice League members like Green Lantern and Superman tipped to make appearances.

With Warner already confirming that a Batman Arkham title is coming this year, the source's claims that Batman: Arkham Origins could be revealed at E3 2013 and released in late 2013 don't seem all that outrageous. Yet, until some official details are confirmed, this is firmly to be considered pure speculation for now.

  • I'd like that very much!
  • I will be buying the game simply for the fact that Batman is the best comic book hero (only personal opinion there), but I was really looking forward to the way Batman would progress after the events in Arkham City. So I am hoping for a continuation over a backtracking.
  • "tears of joy"
  • i just hope it's going to be on PS3 not just on PS4, Arkham Asylum & Arkham City is the best hero games i have ever played also about this Batman Silver Age period i don't mind that too much aslong as that keep to the dark tone that the Arkham's are well known for and here's hoping that mark hamill makes a return as Joker
  • WHAM! BANG! POW! A title that might get me to pick up a PS4 sooner rather than later.
  • @5 yea be the only reason so far if I get one that's the only game I like
  • for someone who is not going to buy a PS4 day one please don't forget your buddies on PS3 if rumors are true i'd really like to play this Day one
  • Awesome news of course! But out late 2013? Seem unlikely. Too many good games to add my backlog! (GTAV, Last of Us, Beyond 2 Souls etc) plus haven't start Arkham City yet! Lol
  • I hope that it has Batgirl in it then Oracle about half way or 3/4 if you see what I mean :)
  • was i the only person who was disappointed with arkham city? they will have to pull out all the stops to bring me back in i think. They need to bring back the puzzling elements, tone down the crazy amount of fighting and focus largely on forming a coherent and solid story i think. Which i feel they lost a little in Arkham city but definately had in Arkham Asylum.
  • @10, wellllllll the villans did take control of a whole city........ just saying. but im very curious to see what this game will be about.
  • it better be open world with a driveable batmobile
  • fvourite games of all time, never get enogh of them, ill love this next one im sure
  • Batman had a lot of good villians, why do they need to go back in time to when he meets the Joker, can't they focus on another villain. I'm tired of the Joker
  • I'd like to see a new IP from this studio. They already released two games.
  • I'm just glad Rocksteady is developing it. Hopefully after this prequel, they can shift their focus and continue on with the story after the events of Arkham City
  • @2 I'd like to see a continuation as well, but I think I'd rather have more Joker to be honest.
  • Another prequel? Hope it don't go the way of God of War & Gears of War. I also was looking forward to a next gen sequel something like Batman: Gotham City & Batman: Gotham Knight. 2 games in 1 gen should be enough.
  • I hope it's going to continue with the story as well.. I actually hate Batman in all forms of multimedia except for this game, I love Batman simply because these games amazing stories and psyche relapses in the patients. The dark interior I absolutely love because I have always been intrigued with the human mind. Reason to get PS4 I would say so!
  • This is awesome! Now will this be more for PS3 or PS4 or both!? woot! Oh but if its also on Ps4.... I hope itll actually LOOK better and not some PS3 port to PS4 HD kinda crap, cause then theres no reason more to get PS4 so early if the majority of the games thats coming to PS4 look the same as PS3 versions.
  • I really don't see how Batman can live in a world without Joker. He always find a way to escape and cause another problem for Batman which makes Batman a stronger character. So I don't think Batman will be able to progress after Arkham City with Joker's death. But now that we get a game where Batman first meets with Joker sounds like a great idea.
  • I'll be buying all my games for the PS4 even if it's on PS3, i have draws full of PS3 games & a massive backlog. So can start building up my PS4 games and this well be one of them, i'll still play the PS3 from time 2 time.
  • @10 Obviously, that is your opinion. But mine is that Arkham City was GOTY for me, and that it was even better and jaw dropping than the first without the awkward ending boss fight that made no sense.
  • Excellent
  • A perfect example of a great franchise, great development, and hasn't shown me an ounce of shaft (*coughsCapcomcoughs*). I'll be there day one. Why not?
  • Well if Joker is gonna be in it I seriously hope they can get Mark Hamil to do the voice again. If I remember right he stated after arkham city that he was done playing the voice of joker after 12 years I think it was.
  • Do we really need more origin stories? Is there a single person who doesn't know how Batman became Batman out there? And I really, REALLY hope that they didn't make it a prequel just so they could give us more Joker. I'm getting tired of seeing the Joker. Give the spotlight to someone else for a change.
  • Hope they can mostly find a measurable enough villain as the Joker was for Batman within the last two games.
