Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Poster Leaks, But is it Legit?

We already know that another Assassin's Creed game is coming. Hell, it was a foregone conclusion before Ubisoft even announced it, but today has seen what could be a leaked poster for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag finding its way onto the internet.

It shows the new hero on the deck of a pirate ship fighting with swords and muskets  surrounded by beardy buccaneers. Early rumblings suggest that the hooded hero - who looks remarkably like Connor from ACIII - is Edward Kenway, Connor's grandad and Haytham's dad, a privateer, pirate and an assassin, obviously.

Apparently, it'll be set in the Caribbean on several islands including Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas, and is more than likely coming to both next-gen and current-gen consoles.

Assassin's Creed does Pirates of the Caribbean? We'll have to wait and see if this proves legitimate. For now, check out the poster and leaked screenshot below. We'll have more on Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (assuming that's what it'll be called) when we get it.

  • But because of the ending of AC3 wouldn't this kinda make no sense......
  • @1 it does not require to be desmond related >_> it could be anyone's family
  • PLEASE let this be fake. No offense to anyone from those countries (hell, im half cuban) but those would NOT make interesting settings for an AC game. Not to mention ACIII was just awful, so i hope ubisoft just creates an entirely new storyline, and distances itself from connor and all that shit. If these rumors are true, then Ubi is going backwards in time rather than forward, and if thats the case, they should definitely do the French revolution rather than this pirate bullshit.
  • looks fake to me.
  • @#1 Not really, head dude with assassins creed already stated around the time 3 came out if not before that he feels Desmonds time is done and needs to die basically. So Desmonds blood line just happen to be a big part to the assassin creed history but isn't needed to finish it.
  • Anyone could have made that. But Assassin's Creed with pirates? That's like a fusion of two awesome things to make an even more awesome thing! It makes sense because the ship engine in ACIII was awesome and wasn't used enough.
  • I'm 99% sure that this is a vita game, none of the assassins creed so far had both a number AND a name, the only one to do it were ac 3 liberation.. Also both the poster and the (off track) setting looks a lot like a vita game...
  • I'd like the next AC game with a female lead, I know AC Liberation has one but I've yet to buy a Vita and would like to see one on the PS3/4. Whilst the pirate backdrop would be a good idea using the ship and exploring different islands, a female assassin in the Victorian/Tudor timeline would be epic.
  • So you get to play as Henry Rollins in the next AC game, cool ;)
  • @8 all the eve references AND [spoiler]? The ending of ac liberation [end spoiler] indicates that the next main character after Desmond would be a female assassin...
  • Is that Cervantes?
  • After I got extremly disepoited with ACIII, I really hope that the new games bringes more new stuff and more interesting charecters. Loved Conners father, but hated conner :/
  • I did not care for AC3, so I'll more than likely not buy this one
  • The real question is Ubisoft Montreal making it? I know they are working on Watch Dogs, as well as working on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Patriots, so it's possible that an AC game is also in the mix, but I doubt it's past the conceptual stage. We've heard a plethora of rumors for past AC games, and I'm guessing rumors for "what place in history is next" won't end until the AC series itself ends. Personally, I'm hoping Ubisoft Montreal isn't putting efforts into a new AC at this stage, they should focus all their resources on their new IP.
  • @11 Could be, Cervantes De Leon was actually a real person and a spanish pirate.
  • Look over Assassin's Creed facebook page - it was updated with post about pirates a few seconds ago. Also, announce is set to 27th february.
  • I loved the AC III missions taking place in the Caribbean, so if it's true I'm looking forward to it. Just wondering what the open world will be like. Tortuga like city? Free roaming in the Ocean, finding and exploring Islands?
  • If this is going to be another unpolished glitch-fest upon release, then my enthusiasm will be dimmed. However, if it's going to focus more on the naval side of things (by far the best aspect of AC III, there weren't enough of those missions imo) then I will be really excited for this.
  • According to GameInformer.com it's Haytham's father and it is going to take place in the Caribbean.
  • Whoops, nevermind. Just saw that part in the article. Sorry about that.
  • How about a proper ending to AC3 first?
  • Sorry to say it but I'm getting so tired of the milking of this franchise. Sure, I don't mind if it continues, but please Ubisoft, take a break for a few years with AC and then come back with a lot of real innovations...
  • OMG people shut the fuck up. We get it the last game had glitches but honestly do you expect perfection EVERY SINGLE TIME? You cant honestly expect every game to be perfect even from a big company like ubisoft. As for the people that hate connor are you forgetting that ezio the fan fav was a complete douche bag who was completely selfish and altair was an arrogant selfish prick. Every character starts off bad ezio didnt get good until brotherhood you should give connor a chance. Anyways pirates of the caribbean meets assassins creed? AWESOME
  • Looks like fan made or a bad book cover. Nothing like a the artworks Ubisoft has put out. The Assassin's Creed Logo is also missing. And to top it of, it looks like a Demotivational
  • If it's in the same time period (or earlier) than AC3, why is it AC4? Probably cause it'll also be on next-gen, right?
  • Hopefully this is fake. Looks more like fan art or something. If I have to do another naval mission I'll jump out a window
  • Looks like it could be a DLC for AC3 where Connor revisits the Carribean. Plus the character in the second picture may be a multiplayer DLC along with it.
  • Russian Revolution? French Revolution? Victorian London? Anyone...?
  • Looks fake to me. Anyone with artistic skills could make a poster like this.
  • I don't know about the setting to much for an Assassin's Creed game, seems a bit off for that kinda game. But I did LOVE the Naval Ship stuff in AC3 so if more of that comes out I'd be down for that. =)
  • It might be a comic series. At least thats what I see when I look at the artwork.
  • Desmond is just character in a long line of Assassins, so anybody can pick up the mantle that Desmond held. They will probably keep the modern supporting cast, Shaun and the tech-chick (can't remember her name, sorry). The ending of AC3, totally set it up for a new chapter (or. trilogy)
  • @3 I think you're delusional, going back in time = MUST be French Revolution?
  • This was drawn by Todd McFarlaine, a famous comic book artist (and toy maker). So it's most likely promo material for an upcoming comic book. Although it's likely that there will in fact be AC4 with pirates.
  • Oh god no. PLEASE for the love of everything holy let this be fake. I cannot stand playing more AC games set in the western part of the world. Only reason I was cool with AC3 was because I has just finished the Revolutionary War unit in my US history class, and George Washington is my favorite president. The ship parts of AC3, has good as they might have been, made NO sense with being an Assassin. I HATE those parts for that reason alone. If I wanted to control ships I'd got play some naval game, not a game about climbing whatever you can like Spider-Man and stealthily killing people. I'd like to see it go to Nazi-controlled Germany, but since that won't happen, the Russian Revolution would be my next choice.
  • Please please please be real. The naval battles were the only good thing about ACIII and the whole time I was playing them, I just kept wishing we had a real pirate game that felt that awesome. As for the poster looking fake, most "guest artists" famous for comics or animation that get hired by these companies put out the absolute worst art so this could be pre-order swag for all we know. Man, I hope this is real so the franchise can be fun again.
  • Im really quite excited to see this, I was really hoping the next AC would be Naval orientated.
  • could be very interesting
  • Aww, I REALLY didn't like the naval missions. I know I'm in the minority though. :(
  • Please, please, please, no.... Yeah, the naval stuff was awesome, but when promising a new hero and setting, I want something DRASTICALLY different. Japan, China... both are ripe with possibilities.
  • i wouldn't mind new hero and location since both of them wasn't much appealing to me but the time and the story also, since they planning to continue the series take your time to figure an awesome plot and take it from there.
  • The pirate looks like some sort of anime-styled thing.... matching nothing else in the poster. Fake.
  • I think its Fake, I hope that AC4 will be the Chinese War or the Dutch Golden Age.
  • Every GameStop in the country has that phone in their back room. This is legit. And no; that's not a joke. This is entirely true.
  • @23 Thank you for saying that. I'm tires of people saying it sucked. The Sabkteur had a crap load of glitches and it was awesome. So why can't you guy show ACIII some love.
  • @23 no but I would expect a game that is at least 95% finished.
