#17, no. Time is never taken from SP to make MP. Budget is increased. Different teams work on SP/MP, etc. This is why both teams work simultaneously. The only thing it does is create more jobs, technically, which is a good thing. If you don't like MP, don't play it. Simple. |

Granted, I dislike multiplayer trophies myself, but I find that no rational reason as to why I should oppose studios to add multiplayer. Multiplayer has turned 15-25 hour games into 300-500+ hour games. CoD, Battlefield, Uncharted, Grand Theft Auto, etc. It can only get better. If the multiplayer blows - don't play it. Adding multiplayer adds tons of replay value to a game. When I was about 12 when Tomb Raider 3 came out, I would've loved playing online. Just because certain studios have coughed up shitty online doesn't mean multiplayer itself sucks. In fact, multiplayer itself is amazing. The execution is just something crap. |

@36 what you have posted is partially incorrect, Single Player does get affected by Multiplayer, but only slightly. Since a Blu-ray or DVD can only hold so much data, the data that gets used for the Multiplayer could be used for the Single Player portion of the game, which isn't that much of a problem, considering the amount of data both of the aforementioned forms of media can hold (especially Blu-ray). I'm not against Multiplayer myself, but if the execution of it is poor (Ninja Gaiden 3 as an example), I'll avoid that aspect of the game (even if it prevents me from getting the Platinum, since I don't care about trophies). I won't pass judgment on this yet, for two reasons, first of all, it's not even out yet, and second, there are no details on the Multiplayer, save for the fact that there is a Multiplayer aspect to the game. |

No, they will simply add a second disc if required. There's games out there who have multiplayer on a second disc when using DVD-ROM. Nothing gets scrapped or erased from a single player game due to size restriction, especially not on PS3 considering nobody has ever truly filled up a Blu-Ray yet, nor would it be necessary with compression technology of today. Your approach, however, is absolutely correct. If you don't like it, don't play it. I love Far Cry 3, but the multiplayer carries absolutely no interest for me, so I'll never play it. That doesn't make me any less fond of the game, however. What I wanted from it delivered. |

LOL the first people who commented, bunch of cry babies... Don't like the mode don't play it, now I know what y'all are thinking "BUT I WANT 100% TROPHIES!" First of all the story points to co-op, which means you and a good buddy can do these together, second if its actually against other players I know most of you will turn to boosting, don't deny that, I used to do that (until ghost recon made me realise how pointless it was, I since quit boosting) but I know a select few of you glory hounds will rush in and dominate the game upon release! But if you really don't like the idea of online at all, lets face it everyone wants to play with others online, and just about every game these days is gonna have online, not all but quite a few, so get used to it, get better or play until all SP trophies are acquired and skip the mp... This may be a trophy hunting site, but we are entitled to our own opinions, mine is to get better or don't bother rather than cry because we gotta interact with others from our dusty basement caves. |

What is wrong with single player games ? Why can't no1 play a game on their own anymore they have to have multiplayer on everything. I bet they are adding multiplayer so they can add easy dlc to make like just maps instead of doing real work and making extra story. |

I love how people assume that the MultiplayerCo op will be tacted-on, seeing how there will be another dev team working on that only i cannot see how it's tacted-on weather it's good is another thing. I agree with some Multiplayer trophies that don't depend on other people, and get you to try Multiplayer not force you to play for hours on end (level50 trophies). |

Believe it or not some people like multiplayer if the trophies are not ridiculous... if you are a trophy whore like me buy it or not based on how hard the multiplayer is but do NOT complain about how they have multiplayer in games. So tired of the instant reactions of omg multiplayer why why why... geez ya'll need to grow up and realize that multiplayer is another aspect of games and true gamers evaluate both modes based on how well they play... not "single player onry". Oh btw people single player and multiplayer are worked on by seperate teams so this multiplayer subtract from the single player comment is the most ignorant gaming comment I have EVER heard. |

I see a lot of people complaining, AGAIN. I don't get why. The MP is not being forced on you, you don't have to play it. The SP will still be there in all its glory, the MP is just an additional mode to the game for those who might enjoy it. Unless they have MP trophies, which of course would then force those trophy hunters into playing the MP parts. I won't judge it until I here more about it, but if its anything similar to Guardian of Light then it should be good because that game was awesome. But as long as there are no MP trophies I don't see what people have to complain about. |

NO WAY TO RUN FROM MP ANYMORE ! so all we have to do is deal with it as long as the game is good there's no need or point to complain , MP is an addition and can be a great 1, it can be as 90 % of the time messed up also. either way if its a great game we'll play it then hunters will always hunt that shiny thing , players will play it and move on , haters will always hate we can hope for a sweet Co-Op mode or at least a fun MP thats all though or an Uncharted MP trophies set so we dont waste much time on it and thats if the MP turns out to be bad , which we dont know yet |

| for fucks sake when will developers stop and think?. MP in all but a few games is absolute bollocks and unneeded. Not every one likes MP but we keep getting it "added on" as if it's some sort of fantastic extra that will improve our playing of the game. Most of my psn friends were met via BF3 or BFBC2, class online games, and if they aren't playing said games chances are they AREN'T playing online. Penny dropping yet devs?. Co-op is ultra shite as well and only works in games like Uncharted where you got 3 player co-op. Look at the abismal Buddy System that we were forced into on MOH WF. Once over I would simply go online to plat a game (AC Revelations anyone?), but now there's going to be a load of games that won't be done to 100% simply because of lame ass MP. Devs need to remember this, unless it's CoD or BF or the like, people buy games to play the SP. |

| To everyone losing their mind over how "not every game needs multiplayer", here's a suggestion, don't play the multiplayer then, the game doesn't change at all because of having it. Uncharted 2 & 3, Max Payne 3, and Dead Space 2, they all had multiplayer, Did I played it? No, didn't care for it, but still enjoyed the games, so why can't we just move on. I find the whole complaining over the possibility of online trophy collection disturbing. Video games are just toys for fun, so what if a trophy, an imaginary award, is missed here and there, getting it doesn't validate your experience one way or the other. Collect the trophies if it's part of the fun, if not, then move on to another game. Developers do what they have to to extend the life of their product, games are made with money, not with love for the craft. |

@69; Y.. You know multiplayer is optional, right? You can completely ignore it. It's not forcing you to play it, like, at all. Hell, it could very well be poor choice of words and it's just co-op mission-based stuff. And I *know* I'd like to be able to play co-op with a friend or two. Games are meant to be fun and available to everyone. Don't like multiplayer? Simple, don't play it! There are plenty of games I've played where I've simply not touched the multiplayer at all. I'm not being forced to, so.. Why are you making it seem like you are? |

I don't enjoy grinding through multiplayer that I don't like to complete my game, that's why I didn't buy AC3 because I don't like the multiplayer at all. No need for people to get upset because I said I won't buy a game what wrong with you all ? I'll buy or not buy any game I want for what reason I see fit. Get off my back I'm not on your's for what games you buy or don't buy. You never know I might end up getting it if it has no multiplayer trophies and I have no reason to play something I don't want too. |

(which they are but write it in your diary), that's why they act like they are being forced to play mp. :) The best part is you point out how nuts they sound, and they get all defensive, because crybabies are NEVER wrong! Ok everyone 1) Since when did people NOT complain about Multiplayer? As far as I'm aware this has always been the response to devs adding a Multiplayer aspect. 2) Yep it's weird and I'm a little surprised myself. Hopefully it's being made by a separate team. As for why, I'd imagine the same old reason it's always been. IT SELLS, sorry but money is what leads the industry as it has a handy job of being used to buy things. 3) If your a trophy hunter shouldn't you see this as a challenge? Yes it's annoying having to go online, trophy hunting is optional. What do you want? The games companies to change their games because you don't want your optional choice to be slighter harder? I mean I like collecting trophies but to tell you the truth I'm not that good at completing games on the harder difficulties but you don't see me demanding they get rid of those trophies for completing the game on expert mode. 4)#40 No offense intended here but I don't think they would add a second disc since that'd mean driving the expenses for the game up. I think if anything it might have two discs if needed on the 360 but the PS3 would be kept to one. #35/36 Actually that depends on how the multiplayer is being handled. If there's two teams then your right it won't effect the single player in the slightest since the SP Team can achieve most of what they set out to when making the game but in the case of one team. Yes it does impact the game a lot. Since to begin with time is a constant in this universe. Also the cost can be a factor since Games Companies always have to think about the profit they'll make against the costs their spending to see if it's worth the risk. It won't mean much making millions of a game if you've spent millions in the development as well. |

| I'm going to have to agree with those who are bothered by this. I'm tired of seeing great SP games get MP tacked on to draw in the MP players, and worse having trophies that force you to play it to 100% the list. I'm going to have to reconsider purchasing it now. |

@19 Don't you think the "If you don't like multiplayer, don't play it" attitude is naieve for a trophy website? You have 19 posts, and it appears you're new. The point of ps3trophies.org is to earn trophies. If Tomb Raider contains multiplayer trophies, multiplayer has to be played to platinum the game. That means every (possibly) crappy, grinding, boring multiplayer trophy has be won. Almost everyone here would LOVE to somehow circumvent mind-numbingly monotonous multiplayer trophies, but this site exists in large part because we can't. Everyone on the thread complaining about multiplayer trophies has grounds to speculate, especially given the illogical time demands developers attach to multiplayer trophies. Rockstar, DICE, 2K, EA, Activision, Bethesda - every major developer I can think of offhand has taken a beautiful game and wrecked the gaming experience by adding pointless multiplayer trophies to it. The one exception might be Naughty Dog. If the multiplayer is co-op - Far Cry 3 has co-op multiplayer, and it is a blast! If Tomb Raider takes the same route and has decent gameplay, that is a very good thing. However, online vs. multiplayer with attached trophies (i.e., Win 100 games, Earn All In-Game Weapon Medals, Place 1st in Deathmatch 3X, Achieve 10,000 Kills, etc.) are the bane of many gamers' existence. Hopefully, Montreal Eidos will stay away from that negative path for Tomb Raider. Honestly though, all pessimistic speculation is groundless until we know what the developers actually plan to do. |

Y'know, I want to be angry about this, I want to be all 'FFS developers, STOP crowbarring pointless multiplayer into everything!' but I just don't have the energy anymore. Yes, its slightly disheartening to learn that Tomb Raider, a franchise that has ALWAYS been singleplayer is getting a multiplayer mode, just because thats the done thing these days, but as others have stated, it may not be a bad thing. Lets look at the evidence. The article states that the multiplayer has been produced by a seperate development team from the single player campaign. So no time has been taken from the development of that, which is a good thing. And what form does the multiplayer take? Because I'll be honest, as much as I have railed against multiplayer in the past, some single player games have done it well. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the 'tagged on' multiplayer in Assassins Creed. For a few hours, before it got boring. But it was an interesting aside to the actual campaign. Similarly with Uncharted. I loved the co-op missions in that, they were fun. Not so much the team deathmatch though, I'm more about co-op gameplay myself. Like in Mass Effect 3. What I DON'T want to see in Tomb Raider is the main campaign playable in co-op. If they do a seperate series of co-op missions like in Uncharted, I'll be happy with that, but a game thats been heavily marketed as being about survival is havily diluted if you've got someone constantly backing you up. TL;DR, If the multiplayer follows the Uncharted route, I wont mind. If it follows the Dead Space route, then it'll kill the franchise. |

| I was freaking confused when they added multiplayer to Uncharted 2, but it was definitely welcomed... Over time. This though, I actually planned on buying the game until I noticed this reveal. I'll rent in maybe for the story and be done with it :/ |

@81 - Yup. Publishers have decreed that multiplayer sells, and they sadly aren't entirely wrong there. The downside to shoe-horning it into every game is that only a handful of games keep their MP crowd for more than a few weeks, leaving a dead feature shortly after release. I'd say it sells games initially, but you then see loads of copies in the used section of games stores. Providing a solid game with possibly several different ways to do things makes more sense to me than a box-ticking exercise to please the bean counters. |

| Well bottom line we should wait for Tomb Raider to come out at least before passing judgement OR at the very least till we see the online component |

@80 I'm guessing you're looking at the wrong person. I have close to 4,000 posts (not that it should matter) and I've been here since the very origin of this website in 2008... I'm very much aware of trophies and people's hatred towards multiplayer trophies, considering I have a good total of 7,000 trophies myself or so. However, I can look past my own interests and see how the inclusion of multiplayer benefits both developers and publishers financially, which results in the continuation of not just the industry itself, but also provides more quality games in the future. If multiplayer adds another 1,000,000 in sales then I think it's a positive addition. |

@80+87: You two have hit the nail on the head. Once you start adding MP 9/10 that means long, grindy, boring trophies and hours spent trying to find someone to play with that knows what they're doing. It also doesn't help when said MP is on servers that are as reliable as the weather. To me MP is only good if there is a plausible reason for it existing but tacking it on to a franchise that's always been single player is rarely a good move. If multiplayer has to be added then there are two options for how it should be done: 1: Dead Space 2: They added MP, it was crap and felt tacked on but what mattered was there were no trophies included 2: Resident Evil 5: The multiplayer for this also wasn't brilliant but by patching adding it in later as DLC meant you could completely ignore it (unless you're a completionist) and not worry about your Platinum taking longer than necessary. On the subject of different teams working on MP modes well we all know how Bioshock 2 turned out. Also don't forget what an utter bugfest ME3's MP was until they mostly fixed it with the last patch. I am not completely adversed to multiplayer but it takes a special form of it to really grab me and make me want to play it post trophy gathering. Resistance 2s co-op mode is one such online mode that kept me playing even after getting all the co-op trophies. Both Borderlands games have also kept me playing months past getting to 100%. I appreciate that developers have to find new ways of making money and increasing longevity but adding multiplayer to everything is not it, neither is hacking out most of the game to sell later. Some days I yearn for the days when games regularly came on multiple discs, as that always meant you'd be playing for months on end before finishing the game. Unfortunately these days the yearly iteration model has seen average story mode completion times plummet to single digits, £30+ for a 5hr story is not good value in my eyes. Apologies for the essay but I wanted to get this off my chest. |

If we want to be completely fair, most story modes in old games (Genesis/SNES/PS1) could be completed in a few hours. Hell, you could complete Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid in under 2 hours. Most games that are "longer" these days get incredibly boring. I find God of War and such to be the perfect length. I like 8-10 hour stories. |

| i hope its co op as opposed to deathmatch/competitive but at the same time having co op in the single player campaign would ruin the whole "survival" thing Id think.. i mean what about the part where lara gets kidnapped and wake sup tied up in some cave? thats not so tense if i know i got another guy in there helpin me lol |
