The first big game announcement has emerged from the Video Game Awards 2012, and it's an intriguing looking new IP from new studio Moby Dick titled 'The Phantom Pain'. A publisher has yet to be confirmed for the title.

In the trailer, a man awakes from a coma or traumatic operation of some sort, only to find he has a prosthetic limb and more than a few bandages on some nasty wounds. Stumbling to his feet, as the hospital where he's being held is invaded, the protagonist makes a break for it.

He resembles old man Solid Snake, but evidently, this isn't a Metal Gear title. Little is known about The Phantom Pain at time of writing, but it looks to be rather interesting. We'll embed the trailer as soon as we can get hold of it. No platforms or further details were revealed.

  • in the voice of towelie: "i have no idea whats going on right now"
  • What was that and who is Moby Dick Studios?
  • i was hink snake too? plus if its net gen, oh nd The Last of Us May 7th! :D
  • The doctor guy also reminds me of Malikov from Resistance and Vidic from Assassin's Creed :p
  • Video was removed by user. Wow.
  • Bet this will be next gen.
  • The CEO of Moby Dick Studios is Joakim Mogren. Joakim is an anagram for Kojima. Add that to the fact that the main character looks and moves a LOT like Snake/Big Boss, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a Ground Zeroes or even MGS5 tease. The only reason it doesn't make sense for Ground Zeroes is we've already seen twenty minutes of gameplay.
  • Also, Kojima's been working on a "Project OGRE", which isn't Ground Zeroes. OGRE. mOGREn. If you fill in the blanks from the missing sections of the Phantom Pain title card thing, it seems to spell Metal Gear Solid V. As shown in this picture I found. http://i.neoseeker.com/n/2/metalgearsolid5.jpg
  • Yes, it is Metal Gear Solid 5.
  • God dammit! Here I was genuinely excited about a new property, one that is completely unafraid to give you a weak protagonist (it looks like it'll take you 3-5 minutes just to remember how to walk properly), and now we're going off on New Metal Gear conspiracy theories! ...still excited, tho...
  • http://i.imgur.com/fa7lR.jpg Mobydick Game Studios = MGS. Joakim = Kojima. Mogren = soccer team of Monetenegro, where Metal Gear Rising Starts. Volgin can be seen clearly as the guy on fire, and it can be inferred that right at the end of the trailer we see Psycho Mantis levitate or someone levitating due to Mantis. It's all right there, but we'll have to wait and see what the end result of all this is. All I know is between MGR, Ground Zeroes and now THIS, Kojima has his hands full, and I hope he does a good job with them all, and that they all fit well with the entire timeline of things and in the same fashion the MGS series has been.
  • Looks like Big Boss is having a bad dream during his 15 year coma.
  • Whale an Hook = Moby Dick, that's a joke studio Also, teh character looks like Snake. Big Boss, his bandanna covers his RIGHT eye (Big Boss), he's dressed like Snake when he has the check up from Naomi (MGS4, The Petals from The Boss battle are in there at the car crash, people have spotted Volgin and Psycho Mantis too and also, the logo has missing sections and strange lines http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/187opsyi6fdufpng/xlarge.png
  • Notice at 1:49 how the guy seems like he is doing the MGS salute to the guy on the ground.
  • Big Boss(?) doesnt have hes cloning scar here. 0:36
  • @11, very sharp eye. Another hint is Mogren contains the word Ogre, as in Project Ogre.
