Assassin's Creed III

Assassin's Creed III To Utilise 'Erudito Credits' For Micro-Transactions
Written Monday, October 29, 2012 By Richard Walker
View author's profile

As spotted on the PlayStation Network by Eurogamer, it appears that Assassin's Creed III will offer players the chance to purchase some of the higher level multiplayer items by exchanging real cash for in-game currency called 'Erudito Credits'.

The Erudito Credits are available in denominations of 20, 50, 155, 380 and 925 with the most expensive of the points packs costing around £13.50. "Buying this pack will grant you 925 Erudito Credits in-game, allowing you to acquire some game items, disregarding your current level," reads the blurb on the XBL Marketplace. Presumably, there's a similar blurb on PSN.

So, if you fancy upsetting the multiplayer balance and giving yourself a potentially unfair advantage, then why not spend some cash and grant yourself a bit of an edge? Get your Erudito Credits ready for Assassin's Creed III, which launches tomorrow in North America and on October 31st in Europe.

Seems game makers are making MP more grind-y just to take advantage of impatient people willing to buy their progress.

Man, this is really gonna make multiplayer unbalanced. You're gonna have people with level 1 characters in level 20 gear/items. No fun at all...

Sounds like MS Points, which are skewed terribly against you. This here is probably the same practice.

I feel like spoiling the game, but alas, I'll leave with a recommendation of just watching a playthrough on youtube, and not giving a cent to Ubi.

if i buy my Max Lvl gear, than all the grind fun is gone, so no!
But i don´t think it´s unfair. If everyone got the same gear to choose from it´s just fair. And to get all the gear you 1. Need time or 2. need money
either you have time or money. For a Family dad that loves AC MP and want to keep up with those "i play 20 hours a week" its just ok to me if he bought the stuff he haven´t got the time to grind.

And those with time but still buying it tzzz.
One thing no one ever will get for In game currency SKILLZ!! ;)

Same as in Battlefield 3 probably, so later gear will be superior to beginner's stuff as an incentive.

I'd expect this from a facebookgame or a free-to-play game, but for a triple AAA title? But then again, this doesn't necessarily unbalance the mp if they matchmake based upon gear

Eh, pay to win? Not so much. The fact still remains that you need to have the skill to use the stuff you buy. Same as BF: Bad Company 2 and BF3, you can buy all the unlocks you want but a noob is still a noob. If paying for equipment makes someone happy, then I see no problem, so long as they are only paying for early unlocks and not exclusive OP weapons that nobody else can use.

lol, they always think of new ways to fork in more cash... still if there are any REALLY usefull perks I might go for it so I don't have to play the multiplayer too long. But I think most players would do so, so I doubt it would be a real advantage:P

I don't find a problem with this. The main component of th AC games is the SP, so as longas they don't pull another AC2 on us with story stuff, everything is ok.

@17: Really? you are cancelling your preorder just because Ubisoft added an optional means for getting gear in MP?.....

Sorry for the double post but I forgot to add something:

I would not mind if Ubisoft implemented this maybe 1-2 years times when MP is full of High level players.

But it should defo not be in from day 1

It's weird to buy it but it's not really a grounds for getting angry at Ubisoft. Also @13 the story DLC isn't bad the only reason the DLC for AC2 was bad was because it felt like they games designers had made a certain plot point so they could remove content and resell it to us.

Come on guys I wasn't the only watching that scene where Lucy randomly comments on corrupt memory sequences thinking "Yep, that's gonna be DLC" but if they didn't make the DLC feel so cheap it'd be ok.

I love how everybody thinks a company trying to make money is evil. Don't buy if you don't want to.

@23
The issue isn't about choosing not to buy it if you don't want to. The issue is about them charging at all for this type of content. "Don't like it don't buy it" is not a valid argument. It's the fanboy defense argument against criticism even when the criticism is valid.

BFBC2, BF3, Dust 514, UC3 and now AC3? Whatever, I'll admit to buying the Spec-Act kits in BFBC2 and some guns and hats in UC3 but I won't buy anything from AC3 because I plan on playing for awhile.

Lots of different games have started doing this, it isn't greedy or anything, it just gets cash of lazy people and ones that don't want to work for it, so yeah if someone wants t throw their cash at something they can get by playing it, just a nice easy way to pull in a little more cash.

forgot to say @26 it is if you don't like it don't buy it type of thing, why? because it isn't anything that you can't just get by playing, all they are doing is letting idiots, lazy people and ones that don't have the time get in game cash faster and over all that won't effect things that much.
Not to mention if it is like the previous games then you still need to level up to be able to use certain things.

@28 that is one bad reason not to get a game, it has the option to buy in game cash in the online part, silly and strange reason not to get a game, god forbid they get a little extra cash out of something that isn't needed and won't subtract from the game if you pass it up.

@30
You're right it is the type of thing you can get just by playing, but that's the argument they should have used instead of just saying don't like it don't buy it. They used the "don't like it don't buy it" argument because they were upset the game was being criticized not because the option is available to unlock these items instead. Almost every time I see something being criticized there's always that person that responds with "don't like it don't buy it" even if the criticism is warranted. That phrase rarely addresses the point of the argument.

i couldn't give a stuff if people can waste cash buying upgrades rather than work for them.
there are always some people who will cheat or pay to have an unfair advantage in all games.

but the game should have no multiplayer trophies what so ever so the lazy buggers can't gain anything but a fake stat against normal players.
must be very satisfying to gain a trophy when the odds are staked against you in the first few days of the games life.NOT

they may as well just let you buy all the trophies because thats how its going.

UGH! How dare they!? Hope it doesn't affect my playing the game normally like I was going to anyway. If only business tricks like this didn't succeed because of the people willing to buy game-money, right? I certainly hope none of YOU guys who are bitching about it purchase any Erudito Credits. Garsh.

I really don't get those who say it'll break the game.
How is this any different than someone who played for days straight and achieving highest rank? How will this affect anyone besides the one buying
Because someone was using money you don't have instead of spare time you don't have? Because you can now play from the start with your favorite loadout instead of having to grind for it? Because low level players aren't near freekills anymore due to lack of versatile perks?

Yo, #37, they arnt making you pay to play... they are simply selling items to you that you would normally earn through leveling up. I havnt paid a cent and will continue this trend for MP... and its still awesome. So get your understanding of what is happening under control so we dont have to read your post which makes no sense in context with this article at all.
