Rising Star games is bringing Japanese shoot 'em up Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition to North America next month, shoving a bunch of extra content into the box, such as a digital art book, soundtrack CD and all the DLC.

A shooter with multiple weapon and vehicle options, Under Defeat comes from arcade "powerhouse" G.rev and casts you as a helicopter pilot "within a war-torn struggle between the Empire and Union." It'll be presented in high-definition 16:9 widescreen too, making for a sexy shmup experience.

The Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition bundles the following:

  • Digital art book
  • All current DLC and patches
  • Soundtrack CD
  • Letter from G.rev CEO and Under Defeat Executive Producer Hiroyuki Maruyama

Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition will be launching in North America in November on PS3 and PSN for $29.99. Check out the trailer and screenshots below.

You know, I really hate to say this but, I really think Japan needs to start coming up with some new gaming experiences. Those screenshots look exactly like any other vertical scrolling shoot-em-up that fill the arcades here in Tokyo. I don't know man, seeing this kind of game just makes me worry about the future of this country's gaming. Meh...at least it's not another "click the circle button to read another line of dialogue" type of RPG I guess...

This is fucking amazing! I remember being pretty sad this didn't get localized on dreamcast and neveer had an extra 100 to get the import.

@2 yeah the gaming market is totally flooded w/ shmups nowadays... wtf are you talking about? Not to mention you picked a game alotta ppl consider one of the best in the genre to make your absolutly retarded observation.

@3 Thanks for the kind reply. Actually my view of Japanese games probably stems from the huge amount of aforementioned RPG games that seem to continue to flood video game shelves over here. Admittedly most of them are being made just for PS2 but one tends to get bored with seeing the same old thing coming out of Japan. I think anybody that has visited Japan knows what I'm getting at here...

I guess... id trade our neverending supply of sports and military shooter games for rpgs and shmups any day. Maybe we should switch countries?

As far as bullet hell games go, for PS3 in NA we get very few especially that actually have retail releases. I can think of the gundemonium games (gundeadligne, gundemonium recollection, hitogata happa) right off the top of my head.

This gen PS3-wise the JRPG selection has been very lackluster. I admit part of that may be my opinion but there are tons of games that you get there that I would love to actually be localized for NA. Give us some turn based RPGs that aren't SRPG!

I`d have to agree with Marisapo80. Japan`s gaming industry is lacking innovation this gaming generation. Every so often they surprise me but more often than not I am disappoint Japan. I am diasappoint.

@12 Not really when you consider all of the stuff you get with the retail copy. I was thinking it would have been more like maybe $40.

@15 I though Rising Star Games are a EU publisher so i'd presume they will release NA and EU similar time.

Considering that the rest of the world only gets 20% of the decent RPGs that come out of Japan(especially in this gen) your argument is invalid. The last thing any company needs is more 'innovation'. No more bullshit touch screen and no more over use of motion control. Some games are fine but if they 'innovate' their way into making controllers extinct and the kinds of games that sell (because they rule) dead, then I will game no more.
I can agree that i'm a little bit over the extended dialog in games but they should still localize good RPGs. The fact that FF13, Tales of Graces f and Star Ocean are pretty much all the RPG gaming Square/Namco have produced this gen is a pretty sad effort.
To me this looks like a current gen Desert Storm and frankly, i'm keen to give it a go. Older games were better then the shit they tend to pump out these days anyways

Straight up pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition. The West needs more SHMUPs badly. Especially on PS3 or PC.

I'd pay $100 for Under Defeat HD sooner than I'd pay $40 for any of the aforementioned trilogies.

... $30 for a deluxe version of a game, which includes a digital art booklet, all DLC, and the soundtrack is *too expensive*? Really?

actually the american gaming market is way worse I would rather play a bunch of bullet hell games than some dumb sports, racing simulator, and action rpg games. At least Japan has innovation even if some consider it not that much.

It was originally $40 retards. Now they lowered it to $30. Better price though I'd feel like I'd be paying an extra ten or fifteen for it to be on blu-ray.

@#29 I doubt it's because of Blu-ray. If you take a normal priced PS3 game which is $60 with a normally priced Xbox 360 game, they both are the same. A normal priced Xbox 360 game is also $60 and Xbox 360 uses DVD discs not Blu-ray like PS3 does.

I know Blu-ray movies are more expensive than the DVD counterpart, but that doesn't seem to apply to PS3 and Xbox 360. If it were the case though, either PS3 games would normally be $70 with Xbox 360 being $60 or PS3 version being $60 and Xbox 360 version being $50.

My guess is that the price drop is either because Rising Star Games must have thought $40 was too expensive for a release like this, the $40 was just a placeholder price, or just a realization that it will sell better at $30.
