Sony Considering PS3 and Vita Bundle for Christmas

Sony is considering a hardware bundle consisting of both a PlayStation 3 and a PlayStation Vita, for release this Christmas.

That’s according to PlayStation UK managing director Fergal Gara. He reckons that the crossover services and features between the two machines make it a great shout for a bundle.

"We'd have nothing against that whatsoever," said Gera when quizzed about the prospect, "And it's not out of the question that we would do that this Christmas if we wanted to.

"We put together packages for retail, and there's no reason why we shouldn't create a 'Vita plus PS3' bundle, which could feature games that use cross-play, as well as include a PlayStation Plus subscription that both devices could use."

"There is really a story there of the two consoles building a partnership. 'Better together', as I say. If we want to continue to promote the partnership between PS3 and Vita, we have to look at ways in which we can show that.

"Is a dual-console bundle box a perfect solution to that? I'm not sure, but I think there's scope to have deals where people buy both the Vita and PS3, along with cross-play games and get a discount."

Thinking of getting a second PS3 since my 60GB is getting on now and interested in the VITA too. For the right price I'd be up for this.

It's a great idea, but the pricing is the issue here...

As a RPG lover a VITA is a must in the near future. I've put it off hoping they'd have a second release with the bugs worked out. I doubt i'd get the bundle as I already own a PS3 but seeing this makes me want a VITA more knowing more people will have one.

In other words, "Git ready, Nintendo, we ready to play game!"

This bundle would certainly make holiday shoppers become borderlined between Wii U and PS3+Vita. If Sony would play it smart and get the bundle near the $400 mark, it would only be a mere $50 away from the premium Wii U model. It would be a brilliant marketing move to get more PS3s and Vitas into gamer's hands. The only problem would be that if they chose to show the Vita as an interactive controller for the PS3, they need some actual games for it, not necessarily cross-play. But even as a bundle, both units are great to have, but hard to justify for the casual "app game" market.

If they say that there would be a final fantasy 7 remake only for vita, now I'd buy it. Until then, no vita for me.

Yeah, okay. Let's see, $250 PS3 plus $250 Vita plus PS+ plus some games probably equals roughly...

Sounds good for people who want both, but don't have it. I have a PS3 already and getting a Vita for my birthday, so I'll pass.

If this bundle is also seeing an Australian release (doubt it though), I bet we Australians would end up paying somewhere in the area of about $700-$800, Sounds like a good idea though.

Depending on the price, I may have to get such a bundle (assuming one does release). However as previously mentioned, prices in Australia are horrendous, so I won't hold my breath.

I just find it hard to believe someone would buy both that did not have either in the past.. Thats alot of gaming to take in at once, with a hefty price tag.+ hdmi, accessories, games, vita memory card, etc. I would love to buy that for an Xmas gift if I was a baller, and could drop $500 on a friend

@17
It was more of a turn of phrase man. I mean they would refine the console and sort out anything people had problems with.
Kinda like when Nintendo released the DS (with no back light) and then the DS Lite came out. I drilled some hours on my DS Lite.
It's been out long enough now though and I have actually played one. My friend has one and they're freaking awesome. I'll have to get me a red one ^_^

Thanks man. One day our gaming industry will stop being shit lol

Also, c'mon guys talking about prices.
Remember when PS2 first came out and was $800+
And people paid then. Seems crazy but those that paid didn't show much regret in my experience.

If the price is right, I may consider it. I have a last gen fat and as time goes on, i worry it will crap out on me. plus its the size of a lawn mower engine.
