What does this mean exactly? Are we talking discounted discs or are we talking digital downloads, cause I don't know about the rest, but God of War III on PSN sounds like a dream.

@1 It's a disk, similar to the Platinum or Greatest Hits, I think.

@1
PS Essentials are basically just a newer name for Greatest Hits. Ya know, big games that have been out for some time on the cheap. They are on physical disc.

€19.99 works out as £15.97.

If they do retail for £10.21 I won't complain, I can't see them being that cheap in UK though.

@8 - Hell no. Maybe Sony just want to get some money from that utter waste of Blu-ray disk. I mean WTF? Avatar: the game? Blandity bland bland? That game was so generic and boring I could not even force myself to get half-way through.

Half of the list is good, the other half is crap that didn't sale well so Sony put a word 'essentials' on the cover to make those games more appealing to the eye and hide the fact that they would be discounted anyway.

@8: It's a decent 3rd Person action game / shooter. Nothing to fancy but also not your average movie tie-in.

Some of those are terrible overpriced as usual considering you can get them in most bargain bins for the same or lower price. And I hardly see the reason to buy (e.g.) PoP: Forgotten Sands and Virtua Fighter 5 on disc while their PSN-counterparts are cheaper :nuts:

I wonder if some some of those games will be trophy-patched up, but I guess not.

I like how most of the games are shovelware or shit. What's so essential about games like EyePet and Friends and Call of Juarez? I'll tell you: it's essential that you AVOID those games.

@11 i found COJ: bound in blood to be quite a decent game and an enjoyable plat. Not the greatest game ever but i have played far worse. Maybe that's just me though.

Does this mean an update is due to patch a few of these games with trophies? I can only hope so, might push me to restart and finish heavenly sword lol =P

Agree with 12. @11 my son quite enjoys the eyepet series. Still a little too young for much else though I'll admit.

@13 Keep hoping, but it's not going to happen. I would love a trophy patch for Assassin's Creed myself.

@15 The recent patch to MGS4 restored hope for me that they MIGHT patch Heavenly Sword sometime before the world ends. As far as Assassin's Creed goes, I'd like a plat for it, but I have no interest in collecting all those danged flags. :P

It's a so-so list, but I can't comment on the pricing since I don't live in Europe. Most of these games would be impossible to find new over here in the States and would be cheap to buy used. Honestly, if Sony were smart, they'd put more emphasis on their Collections series, not try to push Avatar and...ugh...Far Cry 2.

20 of those games go for less than $15 in canada. Least in my parts. Used or new. Really makes no difference. All are before online codes to my knowledge. Point being its a waste of money and resources to repackage all those. Maybe in the UK you guys dont have buckets of those games sitting around in shops but we do.

Some of those games are too damn old, they don't even have trophies.

If only they received a MGS4-like trophy treatment...

Any idea what the cases look like? Platinum cases here in the UK look absolutely fugly, thankfully I've only got one game with the case, which is Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, and it's a rip off since I actually took the case, which was the PROPER case to the counter, and the guy switched it for a platinum case, like seriously what the fuck?!

... But yeah, there's some games I'd get on there, so we'll see...

@26/28
I'm in Denmark, and they recently discounted the Special Edition of Catherine (with the pizza box, poster, coasters and T-shirt) down to about $25. I had borrowed it to try a few months back, but hadn't gotten around to buying it as I'd only found the full-price Special Edition, which was very expensive. So I snagged this immediately

I'm gonna use this to get the Sega Megadrive collection as the only way to find it here is used, for $30+ and I've been wanting it for nostalgic gaming. Over half of the games on there are still awesome to play to this day, Streets of Rage trilogy FTW!!!

£10.21 isn't bad, but i'll always buy 2nd hand retail. wait long enough and you'll get all of the above for £5 to £8 in the shops (most already are) and you get to trade em in for even more games! why buy digital and then get nowt back?(i know like 99% of trophy hunters alread know this, but this is for those who don't)

There is a lot of rubbish in that list and the online for some of them, like Far Cry 2 and MAG, are nearly dead so getting the Platinum without boosting will be near impossible.

And just two days ago, I saw a "Platinum" edition of Driver SF in the shop, so why make it ANOTHER "Greatest Hits"?

Glad I got the original edition of it cheap on Amazon a while ago, fun game and I hate the Platinum games. Why put your game in an ugly box? If you want to sell it for less, just lower the price.
