Terraria Bringing its Side-Scrolling Block Building Sandbox to PSN

505 Games is set to bring the blockbusting, side-scrolling sandbox of Terraria to the PlayStation Network next year. An action-adventure, Terraria places an emphasis on exploration of its huge, colourful world, which you can shape using a variety of collected materials and items.

Originally released on PC back in 2011, Terraria has not only garnered universal acclaim, but it's also sold 1.6 million copies since its initial release. It's hoped that releasing the game on PSN with extra features will create more 'Terrarians' who'll get swept up in Terraria's block building experience.

"I can’t say how excited I am to finally have Terraria come to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3! To see it come so far is a complete shock, especially after such humble beginnings," said Terraria creator, Andrew Spinks. "It’s always been my dream to have as many people as possible know and enjoy Terraria as much as I have, and this is another big step in that direction! It’s been awesome working with 505 Games, and I can’t wait for everyone to see the additional features that they’ve been able to bring to this new edition of the game."

Terraria will be coming to the PlayStation Network in early 2013. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but you can check out the first screenshots below.

If this gets put on the Vita as well as the PS3 I will be so happy! I wish Minecraft would join the PSN too though.

@1 They can't bring Minecraft to PS3 because it is now published by Microsoft, is that right?
Microsoft Game Studios seemed to have their hand in the Xbox release anyway.

@Myself Then again it's also available on Apple products, so they were most likely just publishing the Xbox version. Never mind me! haha

I own this game on steam and I don't see the appeal personally, but to each his own!

Glad to hear this news, only negative for me is having to wait until next year :(
Shame Minecraft is an XBLA Exclusive, it would have sold SOOO well over on the PSN store. Makes you wonder how much money Microsoft had to cough up to seal the deal.

I think LEGO could make an awesome game if it went and done a minecraft style open world block building game, they could call it Legocraft :P

Don't see how this is possible when it depends on pixel by pixel blocks. You can't get that level of control with a controller!
