EA and Insomniac have today officially announced Fuse, the story-driven, all-action 4-player co-op shooter formerly known as Overstrike, with a batch of fresh screenshots showing the game's elite, covert agents Dalton Brooks, Izzy Sinclair, Jacob Kimble and Naya Deveraux in action.

Brought together to fight a deadly alien energy source known as 'Fuse', the foursome have access to all manner of weird and wonderful technology powered by the eponymous volatile substance that will help them save mankind. Using Fuse's funky LEAP feature, you'll be able to switch between any of the four characters during combat, utilising their unique skills and weaponry.

“Fuse demonstrates what Insomniac does best: outlandish and gruesome weapons design, over-the-top action and a touch of humour,” said Insomniac Games’ Founder and CEO, Ted Price. “We’re especially excited to see how players utilise lethal teamwork by combining their Fuse weapons to stop a deadly arms race.”

You'll be able to play Fuse online and offline, levelling up your characters between modes with a unified game progression system. As you level up, you'll earn Fuse points and gain access to more powerful Fuse-driven abilities and experimental Fuse-powered weapons, making your team a force to be reckoned with.

Fuse will be releasing in March 2013. Check out all seven new screenshots below. There was supposed to be a debut trailer too, but that's sadly been delayed according to Insomniac's Ted Price. We'll have it for you as soon as it surfaces.

Insomniac have never made a bad game in my opinion (yet!) so I have high hopes here. Looks good from the screenshots.

As long as EA keep their dirty filthy talons away.

The co-op in Resistance 2 was superb, so hopefully this will be in much the same mold.

What happened to the color of the first trailer? Like I thought the shield was supposed to be blue. And their outfits are all generic and black now. I'm gonna guess that EA may have had something to do with that.

Hope I'm not doing anything bad but here's a link to a good breakdown of how the game has evolved over the last year. Yeah I'm disappointed about some of the changes but it still looks good.

A more serious R&C:A41? I'll buy it. Hopefully, the story & characters fit the gameplay this time around. Arcade action completely underscores Clank's abilities.

Seeing as this is coming out in March 2013, not a lot of it have been shown gameplay wise apart from the odd screen shots. I don't think this will out do Boarderlands 2 but they can dream, hoping to see some gameplay soon.

Insomniac should have stuck with the resistance games and try to get them back to as good as resistance : fall of man was, that would have been better than joining with EA and getting a bad name for themselves.

Gonna agree with #8 and #12. It went from looking interesting to looking bland and generic.

Of course, I'm going off screenshots, but screenshots usually show off what they are most proud of. Gonna keep my eye on it, but expectations have been lowered.
