Double Dragon: Neon

Double Dragon: Neon Vid Lights it Up

Here’s some gameplay footage from the upcoming Double Dragon: Neon, Wayforward Technologies’ upcoming wonkaloid re-imagining.

As you’ll see in the vid, the game sees the return of Billy and Jimmy Lee in a colourful, slightly camp and not entirely attractive, side-scrolling beat ‘em up. We hope we’re wrong, but well... make up your own mind from the video.

Double Dragon: Neon is out on PlayStation Network on September 11th in North America and September 12th in Europe. It’ll cost $9.99.

Can't say it has me overly excited, but I could be wrong, it may turn out well.

Played the originals as a kid but this series needs a reinvention not a rehash.

I love that they walk and attack just as stiff and weird as they did in the original titles.

I'm fairly certain this will sport a short PSN trophy list, no Pt. It happened with Earthworm Jim and TMNT(arcade).

Also, the looks and fighting style feels the same as DD2, my favourite of the bunch. In fact, isn't this the same level (#8) as the one with the doppelganger boss fight?

I don't get the hate the game is getting from some people, I personally think it looks amazing and I'm so happy that I'm getting it for free thanks to Playstation Plus, although I would have happily bought it anyways...

I love double dragon. still play it on the 360 arcade and me and my mate used to play it down the local taxi rank probably over 20 years ago now. I can still smell the stale coffee and cigarettes now. so will defo check this out.

Billy and Bimmy, err Jimmy deserve better!

I don't know why they insist on using low resolution polys when making updates of classic games! This does look like one of those crappy 90's games tryin to make a buck off a classic title. Final Fight Streetwise anyone??? Blehh!

They should do one of two things when it comes to classic IPs such as this.
Make it like Capcom has done with SF2 HD Remix and redraw all of the sprites in HD (costly and time consuming, but looks great) or at least just use old style pixels (IE Scott Pilgrim).
I'll take well animated, clean pixels over low detailed textured polys any day!

Plus this is WayForward, makers of the great Shante. They know how to animate pixels!
This looks lazy. :(

@13: If you're really comparing this to Final Fight Streetwise, you didn't play Final Fight Streetwise. The name "Final Fight" was clearly shoehorned in there for sales. Meanwhile, this actually sports resemblance to Double Dragon.

After watching that vid I'd rather plat Hanna another time...
I was really looking forward to another DD game but this looks like an abomonation and disgrace to the DD games I used to play, hell Bouncer from ps2 was more of what I envisioned for a 'new' DD game (minus all the loading that damn game had).

spent last night playing it, and it looks and feels great. Equal parts DD2 and Super DD. Maybe a little formulaic, but fun and challenging nevertheless.
