Namco Bandai has revealed that Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will be coming to consoles in October.

The special edition of the game includes the Atorias of the Abyss expansion, adding over 10 hours of gameplay with new bosses, areas, enemies, equipment and NPCs.

This new chapter takes place in the middle of Dark Souls' story and ties into the larger narrative, building on the lore of Lordran.

For those that already own the game, Atorias of the Abyss will be made available as DLC through PlayStation $14.99 later this year.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition launches on October 26th in Europe. A North American release date has yet to be revealed.

Well this excites me a lot and from what I've read of the pc version it's not exactly easy getting there, an once there it takes at minimum of 8 hours to complete and that's a speed run. This is by far my most anticipated dlc ever

Hm, glad I waited. Loved Demon's Souls, though you really need time for such games. Hope platinuming it will not be such a grind, Demon's Souls drove me crazy with all the stuff you needed to loot.

Dont worry #3, Dark Souls isn't a grindy platinum. Everything you need to loot can be found as an item at least once per play through. You wont have grind certain enemies for drops.

I personally can't wait for this come out as DLC. I still have my original Collectors Edition from the preorder, and have been waiting for this ever since it was rumored way back at the beginning of the year. I'll be downloading this Day 1 trophies or not.

I hope this comes with a new patch to get rid of the remaining exploits that people have been using. It would also be nice if they could nuke the last couple of freeze bugs as well.

i've plat this one a few months ago and form what i remember the only grinding part (but not for much time) is in the painting world where you have to grind the crow-like demons to get a number of souvenirs they drop!

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE DLC!
will you have to play from the start to get to the point the dlc starts? or you can access it whenever you like? anyone knows???

Maybe this will be the incentive for me to properly get into dark souls. I love demons souls and have put quite a few hours into it, but for some reason after playing a bit of dark souls it didn't quite grab me the same way. Maybe it's just me getting lost etc. and i'll enjoy it more if i persevere. Now seems like the perfect time to do it with DLC on the way :)

I need to hurry up and start playing Demons Souls so that i can then purchase this game. Too many games in backlog, so no release date for NA is a good thing (for me anyway) to make a dent in the first game and the backlog.

Been eager to play this for a long time, looks like I'll hold off a while longer and buy this version :)

I've not played Demons Souls either, should I play that first? Would it matter story-wise or anything?

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls have nothing to do with each other as far as the story is concerned.

Does this mean we're getting a retail version of the Prepare to Die Edition? Japan is getting one but it was never confirmed if America/Europe were getting it (and not just the DLC), until now. This is great news.

@Terminator: Those exploits were removed in the PC version, my guess is that they'll be removed from the console version as well.

@12 the games are unrelated story wise. Personally I preferred Demon's Souls story as I'm still struggling to work out whether Dark Souls has a story or not. I would highly recommend Demon's Souls. One of my favourite games of this generation.

@9 I realized *after* I'd lost about 30 duels with indicted players that the friggin harpies drop the souvenirs. I kept on getting wiped out by the same guy who murdered me as I spawned, then he spammed my inbox with "u suk lolol." All that to say... you brought back that memory. Prepare to be invaded. ;D

@18 Really? He messaged you afterwards? Man there are some dicks online. Much like the first game, I prefer to play Dark Souls offline. Just got tired of either campers who seemed to get off on cheaply killing you, or insanely high leveled players cheaply killing you. A fair fight is good, but fair fights seemed rare in Dark Souls PvP.
