| If I want to play the original game with no graphical improvements or trophies then I'll use my phone, not paying money for Rockstar to do no work other than change format. They could of stuck the content into the GTAIV engine and it would have been brilliant, this is just poor. |

It's also caused they removed the chip in the PS3 that allowed PS2 backwards compatibility because it was getting too expensive for them to keep it in there (with the PS3 back then already at a steep launch price). Then again I'm sure they could always find a way to update the PS3 with backward compatibility........ Hmmm |

This is just being lazy, just porting the game to work on PS3.
You can bet that all other PS2 GTA games will follow.
Only one worth buying is San Andreas but they will port all the others before that. |

Eh, I still have this on PS2... if they'd make this playable on the Vita, however, my money is theirs.

| About 7 walmarts within a 200 mile radius still have the gta bundle in bargain bins with san andreas and vice city as well. Plus many gamestops have it for less than $10.00 used. I even found a copy of this game at dollar general once too. So why would i bother with this version when i can get it for even less than the psn price at retail stores.Unless you sold or broke your ps2 or fat ps3. Then this is a waste of money. |

Seeing as a lot of people either have a PS2 or PS3 with PS2 backwards support and you can get GTAII for about £3.50 delivered off eBay, asking $10 which I expect will be £8-9 if it ever comes to Europe is crazy. At least the Final Fantasy games were sold cheaper than the physical copies were going for.
They need to rethink their pricing strategy. $10 in HD with trophies, yes. $10 straight copy, no thank you. |

why can't you get it into your head that it's got nothing to do with trophies or hd.
it's the fact its the same bog standard game with nothing extra and yet they would like you to repay for the right to play on a ps3,yet they seen the need to remove your right to pop in your orginal copy from the ps2 after giving it from day 1.
if anybody never owned it before hand or played it before SNAP IT UP DAY 1
other wise just play it on your ps2/pc.
OR
if psvita ever gets ps2 support then it would be worth considering. |

| Will this be the first PSN game since like 1999 that doesn't have trophy support? How did Rockstar convince Sony to do this? Personally I think its a big stinky crock of shit not having trophies. @43 They didn't. It's not a PSN game, it's a PS2 game, a straight emulator port like the rest of the PS2 games that are released. The same way all the PSone games don't have trophy support.
If it was a HD remake liek MGSHD Collection, or Silent Hill etc, then it would require trophies.
But it is not, and as such does not. |

| I couldn't give a crap. I have the disc and my PS2s still work like a dream and I've got all of my memory cards. PS2 Classics are seriously considered a waste to me now thanks to the ability of HD remakes and implementing trophy support. PS1 classics are a different story. I won't purchase it, have it already. They're complaining because it's just a direct port and not an HD upgrade with trophies but you tried to exempt the criticism with "don't like it don't buy it. | I don't know, I am with both sides of the argument here, whilst yes it is crazy that they are charging more when you can just purchase it for like £3 on Amazon. Not in any way justifying this but why can't we all just go back to our old games regardless of trophies or HD? I may be wrong but the main incentive here seems to be for it to be in HD and have trophy support, and have some fun while your at it. |

Refer to post 50 and 66. You're worse than the other person that used "don't like it don't buy it" as a counterargument. People want an HD remaster instead of a direct port. So when a direct port gets released instead of a remaster people are going to have an issue with it. Telling people "don't like it don't buy it" doesn't address that point at all. It's pointless to tell people that because obviously they're not going to buy what they don't want.
From Rockstar's prospective I can see why they would release this because it's probably easy money. I can also see why people that want a remaster are upset with it. |

Cool to see more PS2 Classics released but this isnt one I'll buy.
I enjoy the Xbox version best for the enhanced graphics (Bump mapping, particle effect, etc),
and the ability to play your own music off the hdd.
If thy ever release this on the PS3 in HD, with the textures and enhancements from either the PC or Xbox versions, and trophy support I will buy it then. |

But a couple a months back I actually popped GTA3 into my PS2, played for 3-4 hours...and was extremely saddened by the whole experienxce. I had completed & 100%'d the game twice when it was new, replayed once when waiting for San Andreas, and had always enjoyed it.
But replaying it now after having played San Andreas, GTA Stories & GTA IV made it nearly unplayable to me because of the rugged controls, graphics & camera causing too many unneccesary problems, extremely long loading times and overall it just felt lacking now. Sad 'cos I loved this game, and a HD update would've brought it up to date controls & graphics wise. GTA 1 & 2 have actually aged better than 3, but San Andreas still kicks ass over IV (imo) |

@5 - Doesn't work that way. GTA IV uses a completely different engine to GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas. They'd pretty much have to build it up from scratch to use the GTA IV engine.
That said, it's a bit of a waste just porting it with nothing new. |

| Man thats very disapointing to me. No HD, no trophies, no reason to buy. I thought it would at least be one or the other. I love this game, but I've played it far too much to pay $10 to play again without something new for incentive. |

| Remember away back in 2007 when vice city stories was ported to the ps2, it included more extra content. Instead of hd visuals or trophies i would prefer that rockstar included the ability to bail from vehicles, fly helicopters, change the way you run to the way CJ did in San Andreas etc in this download. Just a few enhancements that San Andreas has. Now that would add better replay value. And like the guy above me said PS3's were meant for new games, not old Ps2 games with updated visuals. Besides HD remakes for ps2 games still have crap graphics. |

Just because people would like to have trophies in a game doesn't mean that they wouldn't have fun with a game if it didn't have trophies. I agree that trophies don't make or break a game but they are a good addition. Now I don't think anyone expected a game added to the PSN as part of the Classics lineup to have trophies. People do however expect this to be released as an HD remaster eventually and I do think it will happen at some point.
When people see an article talking about a direct port of GTA III then it's expected that a lot if not most of the comments are going to be about wanting an HD remaster and rightfully so. However I can see why Rockstar would release this as it's probably easy money but I also think that they have got to be planning on a remaster too along with Vice City and San Andreas.

#89 made a good point about it being a site dedicated to trophies so it only makes sense that a number of people on here want a game to have trophies.
The "don't like don't buy" argument on the other hand almost never works as a counterargument. I usually see it used when someone is criticizing something and someone else doesn't agree with the criticism so they just fall back to using "don't like don't buy". |

Yes I did say that trophies don't make or break a game but that doesn't mean that people aren't allowed to complain if a game doesn't have trophies as they are still a good addition to a game. Also you're stating the obvious when you say people wouldn't complain if they never knew about trophies. Obviously no one could complain about an unknown or non-existent concept. You can't use an irrelevant hypothetical scenario as a counterpoint as opposed to how things actually are.
Personally I'm not going to complain about this exact version not having trophies because that is expected with a game added to the PS2 classics lineup. With that said I would like to see an HD remaster released at some point with trophies. |

| I like trophies, but if its annoying or takes the fun out of the game I wont go through the anger to get them. But How you remake a gta game with no added features? The best GTA 3 experience is on a PC. The Steam version goes on sale frequently for under $5.00. Being able to use mods and run it at a much higher resolution makes it by far the best option over the console versions. |

I just saw it on iOS for USD 4.99 (maybe dropped to 0.99 before but it should since I picked up GTA Chinatown wars for 0.99!)
Seriously if Rockstar wants our hard earned dollars they should :
1. Do a HD remake for GTA 3, Vice City & San Andreas
2. Add trophy support (plats for each game and not measly PSN trophies)
3. Packaged all in a GTA : Origins Collection Disc (or something like that)
4. Sell no higher than USD 29.99
5. Put up a Collector's Edition with a figurine of each of the protagonist, or a memorabilia from each of the game (eg the Hawaiian beach shirt from Vice City).
Only then I would relive my GTA days. |

While I won't be purchasing this because I have it for ps2 already, it's a little unfair to call rockstar lazy isnt it? I mean just because they release a popular title under ps2 classics, that doesnt mean theyre lazy for not adding anything. Its just there for others to enjoy if they havent done so before.
If rockstar is lazy for putting this game under ps2 classics, then the same could be said for all games under the ps2 classics. Rockstar isnt lazy, theyre just re-releasing a port on a popular console for people who may have never played the game before. |

I totally agree with you, gta fans need something extra while waiting for 5, specially some goodies like they did with the collectors edition of max payne.
Me personally i'll pass have them for the xbox & pc and played them like crazy, i prefer to play them on the old system for nostalgic reasons, but then again if your console broke or you did missed them, great game for a great price |

| The only good Rockstar game these days is Red Dead Redemption. GTA 3 should only cost $5 seeing as most used copies are that cheap. I hardly ever say this but the pc version is far better if you're looking to play this again. |
