| Not surprised at all by the probability of this. This game has turned into Square Enix's version of Duke Nukem. I just hope that Square learned the lesson from that game - better to let it lie as a memory then have it come out and be a joke to the gaming community. |

This is sad news. What an amazing trailer. I have been following this for 5+ years now. I hope one day they work it into a game or finish it. Noctis seems like a very conflicted and interesting character.
For all those people that say "Why do you care about this?"
Well my answer is, Why do you care that WE care???
Yes, I will continue to buy Square_Enix games. Why? Their JRPGs are parallel to none in my opinion. |

XIII-2 sold 40% as many copies as XIII, so now their new business strategy is to piss off all the PS3 owners who have been anxiously awaiting Versus XIII for over half a decade. Precisely the type of thing I'd expect from these screwballs.
Any word on when they're going to get XIV ported over to the PS3? LOL. I'm AMAZED these idiots are still in business. And I'm starting to suspect they won't be for much longer. Every time I read an interview from one of their executives I'm left shaking my head. |

| I read that FF V13 had been changed to FF 15 on another site a few months back might be wrong but as SE always moan at how expensive it is for them to make AAA games (which i'm not surprised at) then wouldn't it be more cost effective if they took what was already in the works and partly done and make that next FF title instead of starting from scratch. I guess i'll just hope they just changed the name to FF 15 |

Just before E3 there was a trailer supposedly leaked from somewhere,it was only made of 100% already released FF Versus XIII footage,but at the end it had the FFXV logo. SE (as do all conmpanies) denied it was real,yet will most likely come and say its real when they're ready to.6 years too late though,I dont think anyone even cares anymore. |

Yes that footage must have been what i saw then. I do care still though to me Versus looked more interesting than FF 13 did and have wanted it more, but of course i do agree with you that i think most people don't care for it now. Thanks for clearing up what i was thinking. |

| Kinda sad at this, but then it had been 6 years - so it isn't really surprising. That said, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the assets ended up being folded into FFXV. Or if the project ended up becoming FFXV in some sense. Beyond the modern setting, the names of some of the characters, and the alleged combat system, we never really knew very much about the title. |

Early 2013, shortly after the launch of 2.0. The new dev team has been fixing the disaster that was FFXIV at launch, and 2.0 is the culmination of all that work, so it makes sense to hold it off until then. Frankly I think it's going to be quite good.
As for the news post, this pops up every other month. Also obligatory "lol kotaku". Not that I'm saying it's impossible, but this story pops up so frequently that it kind of kills all credibility anyone has unless they present solid proof along with it. |

No problem.I agree with you mostly,when I first saw the VS 13 video years ago,and saw the DMC style gameplay in a futuristic-esque realish world,I was interested at a completely different approach.But its been 6 years in development,announced at the same time as 13 and 14 (or 14 and 13 if you will,because they showed the 14 trailer before the 13 trailer,albeit directly before it) yet here we are several years later with not only FFXIII and FFXIV,but FFXIII-2 as well as 2 years and an entire from the ground up revamp of FFXIV 2.0,and still not a single word on Versus again.Stringing people along with hopes and promises is how SE works these days (trust me,I played FFXI for a long time,and their "updates" are clear proof). It wouldnt surprise me at all if they just renamed it FFXV for the sake of being lazy and not having to make Versus and XV. By now I really just dont care if it ever come sout or not. I wont hype it,I wont be disappointed if it doesnt come out,I wont be disappointed if it does come out and its crap.I'll get it because of the final fantasy fanboy in me and nothing more. |

@22 Kingdom hearts is now officially a handheld series.SE has designated that in the same way Sega have done the same with Valkyria Chronicles,to all our disappointments.In fact,Kingdom Hearts 3 is officially out in here in Europe today |

| So after all this time waiting for what could be a great final fantasy game, they may end up canceling it. I was really looking forward to this game. I loved XIII but this game looked like it may actually out do it's twin (in name). I love Square Enix. So please, guys, don't just decide to not finish this game so you can work on another game that may not even hold a candle to this promised one. |

Most certainly it's fake. The Dev team for Versus XIII is Kingdom Hearts team. They confirmed the title change from Versus XIII to XV was fake and I don't see them starting a new Action-RPG at this point, before Kingdom Hearts 3. If a FF XIII-3 shows up, it has nothing to do with this so don't make up stupid reasons.
When people don't see news for a while, they make this kind of rumors to make the company talk about it. Tomorrow you'll see a Square Enix communication saying it's not cancelled. |

I just love how everything Square-Enix does (or supposedly does) is enough reason for fanboys to rage and say that "SE is dead to them". Hell, this is ONLY A RUMOR that they've refused to comment on, and posted on KOTAKU of all places... They're not the most credible of news sources, you know...?
It wasn't even a year ago when SE announced that Versus XIII's production was moving at full power, and even so, making a game usually takes more than a year. If you're truly a fan, you'd know that most of the reason why it was delayed so much is because they wanted to use their new lighting engine in the game. Everything we've heard about the game is that it's a huge project, and that is sounds like they're trying to bite off more than they can chew with the stuff they want to add in. So I'm willing to disregard the long wait before their latest announcement from Autumn last year, if their next OFFICIAL announcement shows that KOTAKU was making shit up once again. If they officially announce that it's cancelled, then yes, I will get mad.
Admit it, all you people want is a FFVII remake and FFX HD. You don't truly care about anything else Square-Enix does. So now everytime they do something, Square-Enix "dies to you", whatever it is. |

......... I have waited and waited and waited every year for something on Final Fantasy Versus XIII and each time i just go; ahhhh nothing was shown at TGS, but i'm sure at the Square Enix Party they will show something...... and nothing ever does.
I don't care about XIII or XIII-2, they were not FF's but i was happy to just let them go as long as FFvXIII came out, now i'm about done with Square Enix if this is true.
They haven't actually released a game in so long now, they said that they were doing the FFX HD Remaster, I was so excited, because normally these HD Collection/Remasters come out quite quickly but then i remembered, it was SE who had said about this so i shouldn't even get my hopes up for it seeing the light of day.
So here's a list of games that i would like to see announced only to never be seen again just like FFvXIII because they may as well just do that now.
Parasite Eve 3.
Vagrant Story 2.
Kingdom Hearts HD Collection.
Remake of either Final Fantasy VI,VIII or IX. (I would love to see VIII)
Final Fantasy Type-0 for PS3.
Star Ocean 5
Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time HD Remaster

Whether or not this ends up being true, there's a disturbing amount of people instantly believing it even though it's marked as a rumour by every site so far. But that's true for most every rumour :P
I'll be sad if it's cancelled, and would wish they'd say so if that's the case. If it becomes XV or still gets done, then good. |

@24 Actually, no. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is not Kingdom Hearts 3. All the handheld games of Kingdom Hearts are all inter-series that take place before Kingdom hearts 1, before Kingdom Hearts 2 and after Kingdom hearts 2. Birth by sleep is a prequel to Kingdom Hearts 3, it is said that the secret ending is what is leading up to the 3rd console game in the series. The creator had already stated that the rumors are not lies (the ones which state that Kingdom Hearts 3 is in the making), however he had denied that current projects are being held back due to other issues in other games. KH3 will most likely be shown at E3 2013 or possibly game-con a few months after - with a release date somewhere between Q1 2014 and Q3 2014.
On a side note, I'm very disappointed that they cancelled this game. I was really looking forward to this and hopefully they did rename it to Final Fantasy XV.
Still waiting for the Remake for Final Fantasy VII, but he did say that he did not have enough man power and technology to create this game, could this mean that they are waiting for the PlayStation 4 to release the game at top quality? We'll find out soon. :) |

In any case, they keep giving different reasons for why there's no FFVII remake and the most recent is that it would not be made until there's a Final Fantasy game that exceeds it in quality. Some will say this has already happened, while others will say it has not :P |

@37: I think it has a lot to do with the fact that this rumour is 'expected' by a lot of people, given the lack of information and the ridiculous development time. Of course you're right, people usually jump at rumours, but I feel jumping at this one has some justification.

KH3 will never see the light of day until Disney releases some more A+ movies. Most of the Kingdom Heart fans are getting tired of visiting old worlds and seeing the same old characters. I doubt all the really great Pixar/Disney movies will hit the game because that means more licensing issues as well as cutting Pixar in on a piece of the pie.
As far as FFvXIII, if only SE knew that all they had to do was make a random rpg, throw in some cura's, fira's and blizzagas, and steal 1 of the billions of story lines that have been rehashed to the death, we would be playing FFXXII by now and very happy and all would be right in the world. |
