An official, live action Street Fighter series is to debut in 2013, Capcom has announced.

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist tells Ryu and Ken’s origin story. It will be set in Japan as the pair train in the fighting style known as 'Ansatsuken' (Assassin's Fist) under their master, Gouken.

The series is from by the creators of Street Fighter: Legacy, a popular fan-made YouTube film.

"Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist will be what fans have been waiting for. Legacy was a taster; a glimpse of what a live-action Street Fighter should be,” said project head Joey Ansah.

"This takes the story right back to the start - the origins and motivations of Ryu, Ken, Gouken and Akuma. This will become the definitive back-story from which further epic adventures will follow."

Co-writer Christian Howard added, "Our priority is to stay true to the appearance, fighting techniques and canon of the Street Fighter game. At the same time we've managed to make this an emotion and character driven story, which will surprise viewers who might just be expecting a super faithful fight fest!"

Howard also starred as Ken in Street Fighter: Legacy. You can watch it below.

Dear god I really hope this is better than the one with Jean Claude Van Damme!! That thing was horrible, with one exceptions. The part where the truck is coming at them and they see it on the TV and Zangief says," Quick! Change the Channel!"

It looks good. But i keep thinking, that beguse Mortal Kombat last year had the online serie Mortal Kombat Legacy, Capcom smells money and try to do the same. Lets just hope that they will make it good for the fans, instead of taking our money

Fun. I might give it a go but I still think the SF universe is better suited for an anime adaptation.

@5
It's focus is on martial arts not filling it up the butt with cgi *facepalm*

That and that is low budget, it looks good for what it is.

For most of you retards being haters off the bat, this is not what you think it is.

This is not a movie for the sake of being one, I.E. all street fighter and tekken live action movies thus far.

These guys focused more on doing actual moves from the games without CGI, and also follow the story precisley.

I will never get the time back for watching the original live action street fighter and tekken movies, but i think this will be half and half worthwhile.

I choose "low budget - True to the series" over "High budget, lets change it as we go" any day!

The world really does not need any more live-action Street Fighter anything.
If your jonesing for a fix, watch some anime; there is a shitload of it. =)

Mortal Kombat wasn't succesful, Mortal Kombat Legacy wasnt succesful. Tekken wasn't succesful. Dead or Alive wasnt succesful, Street Fighter (1994) wasnt succesful, Soul Calibur wasnt succesful (cause the movie idea been scrapped several times since 2001). This I could tell wont be any good.

Well yeah it was succesful back in the 90's but looking back at it, it looks horrible. MK Legacy counts cause it was released on DVD, but not many people knew about it.
