Yakuza 5

Yakuza 1&2 HD Crop Up on SEGA Release Schedule

With Yakuza 5 on the horizon, SEGA could be planning remakes of PlayStation 2 classics, Yakuza 1&2 in shiny HD-O-vision. That's if a SEGA release schedule is any sort of indication, as it seemingly outs both games, possibly as a two-game collection.

The listing appeared briefly on the SEGA schedule before being taken down, with a December release date in Japan that would put it in the same month that Yakuza 5 is due to release. It would certainly make sense to release Yakuza 1&2 HD during this period.

Yakuza 1&2 HD was listed for ¥5229 with a December 1st, 2012 launch date, but nothing's been confirmed or announced yet. It does seems pretty legitimate though. Stay tuned.

I played Yakuza 4 as the first in the series for me, and loved it. Beat it and enjoyed every minute. I can't wait for 5 now. This is nice to see as even with the reminisce option to watch the story of the first 3 I would love to get to play them all.

I know when released here it had an english dub...will we have the option to have both?

Not for me for others, I only knew the characters since the third game, in japanese of course ;)

Nice hopefully we can get some confirmation soon! These games were great back on PS2. The story is excellent and the games are really fun.

I loved these but I hated the english voices in yakuza 1. Mark Hamill and Eliza dushku were horrible. HOPefully they'll do a decent HD Upscale. Can't wait.

@7
What about Michael Madsen as Shimano? lol. The CONSTANT "What the f@ck? You fu@ker!" of Yakuza 1 was comical at best, frustrating at worst. Fantastic news, though!

I thought 1 and 2 had trophies? So this is a HD collection?

@9 1 and 2 were on the PS2, so no trophies and yes, this is an HD collection but the list actually said "HD Edition"

It is as if SEGA was reading my mind when I wished for some sort of HD version of the first two games.

I've only played the last 2 and Dead Souls. I hope we get a US release.

Awesome! Now if they'd only release Kenzan! in English -- I went ahead and imported it anyway, but it's pretty difficult to tell what you're doing when you don't speak Japanese.

I was so excited when I first heard about this.

I second the mention of releasing Kenzan, I would buy the HD releases and a localized kenzan in a heartbeat.

Yakuza 4 was the first game I played. I didn't really need to play the first 3 cause of the reminisce videos. But this collection is great to get rid of the original titles and have them for PS3 instead.

@18 if you haven't played 3 I would really recommend picking it up , it is to this day my favorite game and the reminiscence videos did no justice to how awesome it was .

If they release this as an HD edition, you can bet your sweet patooty there will be trophies. Then there will be a Yakuza Club on PS3trophies.org. All 6 of the games will be in it.

But make sure you save time for Sleeping Dogs!

I've got 3 and 4 and haven't played them yet... Should I wait til these come out and play them chronologically? Do they follow the same story and characters? Or are they like gta where it's all different? Sorry for the dumb question :)

This is really awesome news for a Yakuza series fan like me! The thought of Yakuza 1 being remade is...undescribable. Furthermore, Yakuza 1 has (in my opinion) the best soundtrack ever

@26 They like to reference the older games in the series but ultimatley they are seperate stories. You can happily play this series from any game and be fine. Plus they do have a "story so far" feature to fill you in on the background.

I hope they put in the Japanese voices for the original Yakuza cause it would be awesome to play it again a little more seriously.
