Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Assassin's Creed Movie Enlists Shame and Prometheus Actor, Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender, star of movies like X-Men: First Class, Shame and Prometheus, is set to star in Ubisoft's planned Assassin's Creed movie, taking a seat as co-producer with his company DMC Film on the project to boot. According to Variety Fassbender will assume the role of one of the iconic hooded assassins from the series, most likely Altair.

Reports suggest that the Assassin's Creed movie will be an adaptation of the original game, which means Fassbender would play Altair and presumably Desmond too. "Michael Fassbender was our first choice," said Ubisoft Motion Pictures boss Jean-Julien Baronnet. "Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor."

Sony Pictures had been in the frame to distribute the movie, but negotiations reportedly stalled following "ridiculous" demands from Ubisoft. Once a writer and director are appointed for the Assassin's Creed movie - Fassbender's star power should help there - talks with Sony should resume, according to Ubisoft.

"We're open to re-discuss with the key studios once the production package is finalised," Baronnet continued. "Whatever the financial model, Ubisoft Motion Pictures will limit its risk investment."

This won't be Ubisoft's first film adaptation, with Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time releasing in 2010, raking in a disappointing $335 million worldwide. Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon are also other possible franchises that Ubisoft could be looking to bring to the big screen in the future.

With the wonderful Michael Fassbender involved (man he was great as Magneto in Xmen 1st class), there is hope this could turn out well.

*keeps fingers crossed*

@2 you may be waiting a long while yet if they don't even have a script yet. Unless they just throw one together and say 'good enough'. That never ends well for video game movies, right Uwe Boll?

One thing with movie/game tie ins, they need to stop talking about the game when they talk about the movie, i know that sound stupid but i swear it puts people off just knowing its a game.

Ubisoft are doing a good thing by sticking to their guns and protecting their own IP. Fuck the movie producers and studios who want to dumb and water everything down for the masses.

Wow, my interest has peaked now! Blew this off at the beginning, thinking another crap video game adaptation. But with Fassbender, I'm sure they won't be half-assing this!

General rule of thumb is that video games don't necessarily make good movies. It's very apparent that the inverse is true as well.

As cool as it would be for an Assassin's Creed movie to be made, movies only last around 1.5-2 hours. That's not a lot of time to set things up in a way that the audience isn't completely lost in the world of Templars and Assassins. Video games have much more time to set up plot elements since they can go anywhere from 6-20+ hours to play from start to finish.

I'm skeptical about this becoming a movie. He is a great actor, but I'm not really won over by video games becoming movies (and vice verse).

So there is gonna be a 2nd assassins creed movie....First one wasn't bad, hopefully this one will be x10 better. Did I understand that right a DMC movie? I bet that would be good, but the question is which dante are we getting. The white haired one which I personally loved or the black haired one which I really know nothing about.

@13
Are you one of the many people that is gonna hate DMC just because of the hair color? Its about Dante's younger days. Maybe it will tell the story of how he got the white hair. We know little about his past. And i think its gonna be a good game.

Fassbender would play great as Desmond/Altair. I cant wait for the film. Lets just hope they wont fuck up like Max Payne or Prince of Persia.

As long as they don't get the writers from Lost involved, there is hope.

Has the potential to be an excellent movie. Prince of Persia is still imo the best game to movie to be made. I love all the RE movies just don't like Alice as a character. I also like how they refer to 335 million as worldwide revenue as "disappointing". I think Michael Fassbender is a great actor. He was incredible in Prometheus and great in X-Men.
