PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale - Two New Characters Revealed at EVO

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has a pair of new characters joining the growing roster SuperBot Entertainment has announced at the EVO event in Las Vegas, revealing that Heihachi Mishima from the Tekken series will be coming to the game in his younger, early Tekken guise circa 1995, alongside feline Sony mascot Toro Inoue.

Heihachi will boast familiar moves from his 17 years in Tekken games, such as his Electric Wind God Fist and Twin Pistons, and he'll excel in close combat, with heavy strikes and devastating quick combos. Sony cat Toro meanwhile, has a unique stance-based fighting style, giving him a range of different attacks.

Toro is a close-range fighter in his Justice form, while in his Torobi form, he becomes a ranged specialist. He can also control wider areas in his Oni form, so despite looking like he'd get his ass handed to him in a second, Toro is actually a bit of an all-rounder.

Finally, the new Dojo stage from PaRappa the Rapper has also been unveiled, featuring a guest appearance from a gigantic Chimera walker from the Resistance series. You can check out Heihachi and Toro in the trailers below, and the PaRappa Dojo stage in one of the two new screens.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is out in October 2012.

Well, that is a rather "meh" announcement of new characters. Hopefully better ones will follow.

I swear, if they only have 12 characters, I am going to be extremely disappointed, cause I mean, look at what they're working with. BLUERAY!! they could do a whole Mugen then and have a couple hundred characters on there if they wanted.

Heiachi was a cool addition. I can't wait for the Cole McGrath announcement with Jak and Ratchet & Clank.

It looks like he plays like he does in Tekken! I can't wait for more reveals hopefully we get an MK character, most likely Scorpion or Sub-Zero though I'd want Jonny Cage. No interest in Kolo but thats mainly for the Wapan audience I think.

I bet that they will have 12-15 characters then release new DLC characters at £2 a pop.

When this was first announced I was properly pumped. However since then I've been disappointed (and annoyed with the way the UK is being dealt with). So this has gone from a preorder to a pick up when it's £15 or a £20 ultimate edition with all the DLC included.

Ok, I have played Tekken before, but who the heck is Toro? Only place I've seen him is the LBP DLC pack.

Not the Tekken charecter I'd have gone with. Never heard of the other one.

Just announce Jak/Daxter & Ratchet/Clank already!

Ok sorry for say this, but this game started to lose my interest since the past E3, i'm really tired the waiting of the announcement of new characters and the stages/arena from what i saw in the E3 was... well... lame and boring

Not try to say that the game will be horrible, but i hope in see more "Sony PlayStation" characters (yeah 3rd party characters are great and very welcome but we must remember that the game is called "PlayStation All Stars" Battle Royale)

For a TEKKEN rep, it should have been GON!

@10 Gon was not an original character by Namco. It's a character from a manga that started back in 1992.

I think Heihachi makes a great entry for this title. Also nice to see an official date, looking forward to playing this!

Thats cool i guess. I like Heiachi from tekken but Im more of a Lei guy myself lmao. I'd like to see some more "anticipated" character announcements tho. As well as stages too. This game is looking decent for now, but I really wanna see some more before I go for a pre-order.

I have high hopes for this game. It has potential but is kinda lacking right now.

@18 go away. @ this game: give me characters that are relevant and popular, not six good ones and a ton of filler.

@4 I don't think you understand anything about designing content for games.

To those disappointed at these reveals, keep this in mind; EVO is the World Series of fighting game tournaments. They're not going to show Jak, or Spyro, or whoever the hell else everyone is spamming their desire for all over the internet. They're going to show characters related to fighting games. Heihachi is an obvious choice (though you could argue for a different Tekken rep, but I won't get into that) and Toro fits since he was a guest character for SFxT on PS3/Vita. It didn't release that long ago, after all. Two more reveals are coming at Comic-Con next weekend which is a much broader event, so we'll get something different there.

@9 Toro is Sony's mascot in Japan. Don't really know much about him myself aside from the fact that he has some games over there and that he's in Street Fighter x Tekken.

damn, when I hear about the game I was very excited, even to the point of wanted it in PRE-ORDER, but as many I am very dissapointed with the lenght of the roster. Only 12 characters? really? this is supposed to be sony's version of smash brothers, Brawl has 35 playable characters. dont tell me sony doesn't have 35 characters in their library. the worst is that Sony probably will release the other 23 characters via DLCs. so the "complete" game will cost a lot.

You know what they should have done? Added characters that are, or at least a one point where, first party characters. It's characters like Heihachi and Big Daddy that should end up as DLC later on, but the way it's going, we're probably more likely to see Master Chief and Super Mario in this game than we are Jak and Ratchet.

I would have preferred Jin or Yoshi from the Tekken series, but i'm glad Sony is giving Tekken a representative. Tekken was a Sony exclusive for the longest time, and Tekken 3 and TTT sold a LOT of copies. I can also understand Toro...I think he will be accompanied by a sackboy announcement very soon

@20

The character don't need to be character that relate to fighting games, as much as we hate it this game will always draw comparisons to Super Smash Bros and it should embrace that not try and hide it. I want to be able to use stock and lifes like in Smash Bros and part of that is the character rooster.

None of the characters we've seen so far have been in fighting games. In fact Heihachi is the first we've seen to be in a fighting game. All those other characters make just as much since to show at EVO since All-Stars is a fighting game in itself. Plus I think people were holding out to see more on the First Party side of the game.

@22

Maybe their going the Smash Bros route and keeping us waiting. Remember they haven't actually stated the final number of characters for the game yet. Though I agree, having mostly DLC Characters would really suck.

To be honest I'm not liking this game one bit. I keep thinking back to Smash Bros and noticing small differences I don't like. I wanted Smash Bros with Sony characters. If Sony gave me that I'd buy four copies just so my three friends who own PS3s could play the game with me (Yeah, a little sad) but this? I can't even tell who's winning, I hate not being able to use normal attacks to knock people out. I'm a little worried it'll play out like Not Smash Bros. Something that's just not as good as Smash Bros was.

What does Blu Ray have to do with anything? Characters take up such a small amount of space anyway.

I don't think they're going to stop at 12 characters as people seem to be worried about. Mind u I haven't been reading up on it that much. I also think that not everyone will be happy with every character. These two seem to have as good a reason as any to be there tho. Me, I'm happy regardless, I'm sure Sony will release an epic game here. I'm looking forward to it :)

I can't see this being better than Super Smash Bros. The gameplay in those vids looks and the stages looks pretty average. SSB is awesome so I hope Sony can meet the expectations.

@32 Actually characters take up a lot of space though I wouldn't imagine it would for Blu-ray.

There's no way it's going to stop at 12. There's a problem with balancing the characters but it won't be too much for them to stop at 12 unless this is somehow aiming for Super Smash Bros 64 quality. I reckon the characters we really want will be shown closer to the release, that's what Hal Laboratory did with Sonic in Smash Bros Brawl and it worked well.

The bigger characters like Cole Mcgrath, Jak, Ratchet and so on will be announced later.

I think it should have at least 50 characters. Just because of the simple fact that their are so many awesome playstation characters out their. Rachet and Clank, Crah, Cole mcgrath, Jack and their bigest guy Drake. O and since sony let MK use Kratos in their game MK should let sony use a few of their characters. I know is wishfull thinking but i would love Etzo, Snake, Dante, (DMC), Dante (Dantes Inferno) and Bayonetta.
