Persona 4: Arena

Persona 4 Arena To Be Region-Locked on PS3
Written Friday, July 06, 2012 By Richard Walker
View author's profile

Atlus has confirmed that Persona 4 Arena will be region-locked on PS3, despite every other game in the console's library being completely region-free. If you want to purchase the 2D anime-style fighter, you'll have to pick it up in your appropriate region.

This somewhat odd decision sees Persona 4 Arena becoming the first PlayStation 3 game since the console launched in 2006 to be region-locked. Why Atlus has decided to region-block Persona 4 Arena is unknown, but it does seem strange...

Persona 4 Arena will be region-locked in both North America and Europe, which presumably means it'll be region-locked in other territories too. Let's just say it's region-locked everywhere and leave it at that, eh?

Persona 4 Arena will be releasing in North America on August 7th, Japan on August 2nd and Europe on August 31st.

I'm guessing this will be a rare title for some territories as well...

This is ridiculous for Europeans and Australians to say the American and Japanese dates are 4 days apart.

Its not that big a deal if the game is available in all regions. But if the game was EU or US only then I would be pissed if they did it.

This is a dangerous precedent, I just hope no-one else decides to do this else the days of getting games from anywhere on the planet will be over :(.

Don't really mind region locked games if there getting released in both ntsc and pal regions, What would bother me if games that only get released in 1 region are locked.

What reason do they even have for region-locking it when it'll be released in every region anyway? Granted, there's no reason to keep it region-free since you can just pick it up in your country, but there's also no reason to make it region-locked either.

People should object to this, VERY VERY vocally. You dont just come along and change an entire system's way of doing things because you feel like it.

Its not even Sony doing it ffs!

I think by what they said it may be similar to mortal kombat's online system...

You try to fight someone in NSTC territory from a PAL region and no go!

Makes sense, ping and junk, lucky for me this ain't my cup of tea *sips bottle of water*

@16 What they mean by region lock, just means you can only use the game in the region you bought it i.e. US,Jap or EU.

It has nothing to do with playing people in other countries as most 360 games are region locked and I'm in EU and could still play people all other the world.

@19 - No, it means that you can only play the game on a console from the same region as the game. Technically, you could play the European version imported in North America, as long as you have an imported European console.

In otherwords, the region code on the game and console must match.

I suspect they have done this to prevent online lag issues. There is no other logical explanation, unless they intend to have unique game features in the various regions (unlikely). They probably will have localized servers with local match making.

Could have done the same by allowing people to set a preferred connection type, as many of the older online games did.

I think the region locking was a stupid idea but if anything good came out of this it saved me from falling into temptation and importing it myself for the sake of having it a week early lol

Woow, i'm surprise with this? but i'm still wondering the why of this?, i mean what Atlus won with this?, nothing!... besides maybe they will lose some pre-orders of people that import the game...

Really i don't get it..., but still have my doubts, i don't think that Sony will allow this (but who knows...)

@15

You can import from the UK (Zavvi.com) as an alternative if, like me, you don't want to buy it in your own country. They have some sweet discounts every Monday and Friday, and they never let me down.
