Purchase the Mercenary Pack for Dust 514 and you’ll access around $50 of content for $20/£13.99.

The Mercenary Pack is essentially booster content for CCP Games’ free-to-play shooter. It includes a range of exclusive armour, weapons, items and more.

In addition to this, the Mercenary Pack also guarantees you access to all of Dust 514’s Beta Events and off-weekends, which begin this weekend.

The Mercenary Pack is available now on the NTSC PSN and will be available on PAL PSN from tomorrow. Dust 514 is out later this year. Alternatively, if you don't want to spend money on the game, you can sign up for the beta here.

  • 4,000 Aurum ($20 USD value) - the in-game currency for DUST 514 that you can buy in the PS Store
  • 30-dat Active Skill Booster - increases earned Skill Points (SP) by 50%
  • 'Dragonfly' Scout Dropuit - a uniquely designed armor with unlimited use
  • 'Toxin" ICD-9 Submachine Gun with unlimited use and a custom skin
  • HK4M Shotgun X 50
  • Hacked Drop Uplink x 50 - allows players to create on-the-spot spawn points for their teammates
  • Fused Locus Grenade x 50
  • 1.5dn Myofibril Stimulant x 50 - offers players a temporary melee damage boost against opponents
  • All Access Beta Pass - allows players to participate in every Beta Event, as well as additional play sessions during off weekends

I'd be interested to see how well you can do without paying anything.

Aye me to.. if F2P (which it's name is misleading) becomes the norm then it'll end up costing more in the long term or people will be less inclined to go to other games if they have cash investment in a game.

F2P works for some things like MMO's but try incorporating it into everything and you will soon hit a brick wall.

People's CC bills in the future will be dozens of pages full of micro transactions :)

If only Dawnguard weren't coming out in a month, I'd get this.

Ill probs pick this up.
£14 is a quite a bit when put into perspective against other titles/ bonus content, especially considering its not actually going to benefit you hugely in game, and I am certain that there WILL be more 'small' incremental 'booster packs' in the future which will entice you to splash even more cash for no real gain - That said I am happy to pay that 'small' amount to support CCP on their F2P venture.
However, that's all they are getting from me :P

So it's more like "free to demo" and $50 if you actually want to be something other than cannon fodder?

@5 I'm not sure about that, I saw an E3 interview when one of the makers of the game that said it's not pay to win. He said it takes alot of skill to be good at the game.

@5 LOL exactly. Free shooters are always the same: Paid subscribers get the Big-Ultra-Mega-Gun-9000, free users get a toothbrush. Pass.

Can't wait to try it out, and @#1 The developers did say that if paid weapons were OP compared to non paid they would remove them, hopefully they will stick to that.

There's equipment you can get with in-game currency (earned from playing) that is nearly identical to the paid equipment in most cases.

This could be the best free to play game on earth and i still wouldn't bother with it, in the long run it will probably cost you more than a game from Game with the micro transactions. Free to play, yes right, nothing is free in this world.

...This is stuff to use in the beta...

I think I'll wait until it becomes final or at least 1.00 status, it wasn't bad but so much battlefield 3 has given me a pedigree with online games :S

This doesn't hit that mark yet...

I bought this yesterday and I must admit that is quite fun and the guns that are given to you are reasonably strong, but being that its a beta, there are still some glitches that needs patching. The PSBlog said that the beta will be available to access tomorrow but I was playing it yesterday so I think either I got lucky, or they got missinformed but oh well, I sure am enjoying it ;)
