Sony Has No Plans For Future Resistance Games
Written Tuesday, June 26, 2012 By Lee Bradley

A quote from the producer of Resistance: Burning Skies has cast doubt over the future of the franchise.

Despite playing a central role in Sony’s strategy up to now, with three numbered games and two portable spin-offs, SCEE producer Daniel Brooke says the platform holder has no current plans to continue the Resistance series.

“The Resistance franchise has been exciting to work on but as for the future we have no definitive plans,” said Brooke.

The news follows the revelation from earlier in the year that Insomniac would no longer be creating Resistance titles. At the time it was thought that development on the franchise would be farmed out to another studio.

Apparently not.

Wow that's said to hear. I always liked the Resistance franchise. I hope in the future they change their minds due to fan demand!

Played and enjoyed #1. Bought #2, still sitting unplayed on my shelf. Never got around to #3.

May get Burning Skies for the Vita though.

@Bungie didn't make Halo CE: Anniversary nor are they making Halo 4. 343 Industries is the developer for both.
RE:BS apparently was a letdown so it's kind of logical that they're not making a new one right away.

Didn't we know this already? That it was over.

Either way, loved the series.

Loved the first one, I enjoyed the second (my first platinum trophy even), and while I really enjoyed the story of the third I wish it had more closure if they are ending the series there. The still frames at the end weren't enough for me to feel it was the ending. Still have to get a vita at some point to play burning skies though, since its the only one I've yet to play.

To be honest I'm not surprised as Resistance 3 and the PSP spin-off weren't very good with lame stories and weak gameplay.

I was hoping for a proper 4th one to completely finish off the story but that will never happen.

It did feel a bit the ending of the third game was just tacked on late in development to give closure to the game - the Chimera just lost for no real reason. It's like Insomniac were suddenly told there wouldn't be a fourth one and they needed to end it quick.

Kinda sad considering how much time I spent playing this series...especially R2 coop. I will admit R3 MP was a letdown to me so I am not too surprised about this announcement.

They should have stopped at resistance fall of man it was the only real resistance anyway the other 2 they try'd copying from other games what they didn't need to do.still up to this day R:FOM is still my favourite game on the ps3,but insomniac had to go an f**k it up and destroy a great game.

I didn't think RFOM was that great -- maybe it's because I played it long after launch, but I have no idea what the fuss was all about. A middling shooter. I'll take the Killzone games or even UT3 over it any day. That said, it was still half-decent and playable, which, @6, is more than I've heard about the Vita game.

It's sad that this series came to this. RFOM is still the most fun I've EVER had in online MP. And R2's online Co-op was mega sweet, too. And the story in both was top notch. I mean, c'mon, Hale's God Mode Enabled final escape in R2, followed up by (imho) the most shocking ending in a franchise? Awesome sauce. And I loved how the Hale on the Start screen in R2 would change how far he had become "infected" depending on where you were in the story.

Then, R3 happened. The whole game (SP, storyline, MP, ending) felt like Insomniac just didn't give a shit. I just did not enjoy ANYTHING about that game. MP was lame. Capelli didn't even feel like the same character from R2. The Malikov deal was so underwhelming. And the ending? Yeesh. So bland.

Too bad that such a strong franchise had to go out on a whimper.

One thing I've realized over the years is not to believe everything the companies tell you.
I think they sometimes say things like this to track reactions and see if people really want another sequel.

A shame because this is a very underrated franchise amongst gamers. Critics liked Resistance 3, but it just didn't sell very well.

With Killzone being the more technically superior FPS, there doesn't seem to be as much interest for Resistance.

Fall of Man was the first game I played on my PS3 and I'm a big fan of the series. I hope in the future, after a break, it will come back.

The story of the Resistance franchise has been terrible right from the 2nd mission in Resistance 2. Everything falls apart when you take the original story of the first, scratch it and say `that`s not 100% what happened` even though we played through it.

Project Abraham, Deadalus's origin, The Sentinals as a whole, Dr. Malikov's experiments.. NONE OF THIS NEEDED TO HAPPEN!

I will admit however, I'm disappointed there will be no Resistance: Retribution 2. The first one had a cliffhangar ending with main character standing in the ruins of Russia. That looked awesome.

I really enjoyed the Resistance series, one was great, two was good but didn't fully make sense, and I loved three the most - apart from the prison level. It did give a definitive ending I feel, the wormhole was closed, no more Chimera could be sent to Earth and so they would be defeated by us mighty Earthy's. I killed 1000+ during the game! *wink*

It's because no one really gave a damn when the third dropped. In the first two it seemed like you were actually fighting back- you know, RESISTING- but in the third, the first thing they announced was that the war was lost. "The Chimera won, people are dying or hiding, everything's freezing, it's all really crappy." There's your conclusion! No one wanted to fight back if the war was OVER. ESPECIALLY since Hale wasn't the protagonist anymore. THEN they had the nerve to HAVE THE VIRUS CURED IN THE INTRO CUTSCENE. The only tool they had left to entice players into playing the game, the one unresolved goal… Cripes.
They SHOULD have just picked it right up from when R2 ended, maybe going into space, some more Chimeran homeworld type deals. Resistance, I am disappoint. Plus we all knew they'd bring the game around into a trilogy as soon as R2 came out, since apparently you can't make a good game with more than 2 sequels.

I always thought the Resistance games had more potential than they ever actually followed through with. The first game was alright, second was a bit weird, didn't bother with 3, clocked RBS in a day. Can't say the series ever truly excited me.

Seems to me like Sony is just washing its hands clean of Insomniac... I'll admit though, the Resistance series is a weird favourite of mine for some reason.

Was a great series up until R3... which felt like a spin-off. Kinda fizzled out the trilogy, instead of going out with a bang. Fall of Man remains my favorite, though, and one of the best FPS I've played this generation... but everything else in the series was mediocre at best.

Each Resistance game following FoM tended to be superb in some areas and completely lackluster in others. At their best, they're amazing, at their worst, they simply stink... overall? Mediocre, at best.

Insomniac is kind of losing their edge, though, 'cuz the R&C games, a beloved series of mine since the very first on PS2, has become less than stellar as well... ToD was superb, QFB was alright, ACiT was good... A4O was downright horrible, but all look great, sound great and most of all have great humor, writing and voice acting.

And, that's why I think god we're getting an R&C HD Collection. Take me back to when Insomniac was an amazing developer that could do no wrong, this Fall, please (which is what a lot of HD Collections do nowadays, heh).

One of the greatest fps franchises of all time may well come to an end.

Sad really because Sony are the ones to blame. Their lack of advertising cost Resistance 3 the right to any exposure.

Man this sucks! I never played the resistance titles for psp/vita but resistance 1 through 3 were amazing especially 1 and 3. But i believe that there will be more resistance in the future even if we have to wait 10 years.
