Square Enix has today revealed that English-born actress Camilla Luddington is the voice actress and performance capture artist for Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider reboot, taking over from Keeley Hawes who voiced Lara Croft for the last several Tomb Raider titles.

Luddington was chosen as part of an international talent search, with her "emotional depth and the youthful tone needed for Lara Croft" being cited as the reasons she was given the job. "This has been one of the most important jobs for us to get right," said Crystal Dynamics studio head, Darrell Gallagher. "This Tomb Raider game is very different to any other and we are demanding far more from the voice and performance acting than ever before as we take the franchise in a new direction."

Camilla Luddington is best know for her work starring in shows like Californication and in the current season of HBO’s vampire-tastic True Blood.

The newly-appointed voice and performance actress will also be at the Nerd HQ and Comic-Con panels in San Diego, where she'll be in attendance with the Tomb Raider development team to talk about the franchise's new direction. Tomb Raider will be releasing on March 5th, 2013.

@1 In the past they have had women dressed as Lara Croft during promo events. That this actress can be made to look (and obviously sound) like Lara is probably great for the PR folks

@1: YES!
Attractive voice actors (both men and women) attract more attention at conventions so it's better for the company.
That's just the way things work in this industry. Do you think Nathan Drake would be quite as popular as he is if he were voiced by Mickey Rourke (eek!) instead of Nolan North?

Also keep in mind he developers have to stare at these actor's faces (and bodies) for months and months while reviewing motion capture and rendering. Think of them! hehe.
