There’s a free BBC Sports app in beta on the PlayStation Network now.*

The app is available to download from the "My Channels" section, allowing users to stream tons of BBC Sports coverage via their console.

Going forward we can expect coverage of "key sporting events during the summer and beyond," including the Wimbledon and Formula One.

"The application has been designed specifically for the ‘big-screen' to deliver an ultimate home entertainment experience.  The principal purpose is to deliver live sporting events where there are simultaneous activities or multiple camera angles," says the press release.

The Olympics coverage looks particularly impressive, with up to 24 simultaneous events broadcast across over 2500 hours of HD content.

*It's not working for me at the moment. You?

It's exclusive to the UK because the BBC is funded 100% by the British tax payer, that's why it has no adverts.

This'll be handy next week to watch Andy Murray crash out of Wimbledon yet again, although looking at the weather today it'll probably mostly be Sue Barker filling time yet again.

TV companies pay millions for the rights to broadcast the Olympics in a certain market (Ex. NBC in the U.S.)... they have no legal right elsewhere to air or stream coverage (unless the signal "bleeds" over a border)... so that's why its location based.

@20 not entirely about the 100% funding... the BBC gets royalties for shows they produce that air elsewhere or you buy on DVD or Blu-ray. But you are right about licence - only British have the right to watch the Olympics coverage their air or stream.
