E3 2012: Epic Showcases Unreal Engine 4

Following a private showing to press last month, Epic has unveiled Unreal Engine 4 to the masses. It’s purdy.

Perhaps a direct comparison is unhelpful, but how do you reckon it compares to Square Enix’s Luminous Studio engine? The similarly impressive tech was revealed yesterday. It had good beards.

Meanwhile, Epic co-founder Mark Rein said on Twitter yesterday that Epic had signed a “big new Unreal Engine 4 licensee.” He didn’t say who it was, but if UE4 proves to be even half as popular as UE3, expect a whole lot more.

Unreal 4 for PS4 of course.. wonder tough where this is going to stop, you know.. the ULTIMATE graphic limit. I tough we were on the edge when ps2 came out.. Now you look at it and when you get back to real life you can see pixels in people's face..

And there are seriously people who want current gen last longer ...

This looks plain awesome. All what left to which for me now is a dynamic airflow system and better liquids, but that's part of the physics.
I wonder who the new licensee may be with so many big studios having their own enigne.

Next step: TVs (and consoles) that support higher than 1080p.

@4,

Unless the TV is the size of your living room, will resolution higher than 1080p even be noticeable? Honest question.

@7: Depends on how big your screen is - bigger diagonal means bigger pixels at the same resolution - and how far you sit from it.
A higher resolution can lead to finer details and sharper textures in games as well as smaller HUDs and finer fonts.
I don't have one, but I guess a 50" screen will benefit from it.

As a sidenote: Panasonic introduced a 152"(!) TV with 4096 x 2160 px Ultra-HDTV-Prototype.
