Though we should never have expected it to be there, The Last Guardian failed to make an appearance at this year’s E3. In fact it has been quiet for some time. So what’s going on with it?

Well, according to Sony Worldwide president Shuhei Yoshida the game is suffering from "technical difficulties.”

"The team is back in Tokyo is working hard,” said Yoshida, “and there are some technical difficulties that the team is focused on right now," he told us. "That's why we don't have an update."

Some had speculated that the title was instead headed for PlayStation 4, but Yoshida denies it.

"What does that question mean? It is a PS3 game," he said.

When asked if the game will come out at all, Yoshida answered, "When we have confidence in saying that, we will talk about it," he answered. "But today, we are working through some engineering effort."

In December last year, the original director of the game and the creator of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Fumito Ueda left Sony. He continues to work on the project on a freelance basis.
