Dead Space Graphic Novel Short: A Teaser For Dead Space 3?

Dead Space 3 has to be a dead cert for E3 2012. It just has to be. As if the numerous leaks, speculations and frankly frightening rumours that it could be an FPS (please, no) aren't enough, EA has today released a Dead Space 3 graphic novel short, introducing Earthgov Sergeant John Carver.

Stationed on the planet Uxor, Carver witnesses an attack on the marker site during his patrol, releasing a swarm of Necromorphs and a huge pulsating mass of Necromorph nastiness that'll change his life forever. John must now fight his way through the colony and discover his place in fighting the alien threat.

"This is just the start of John Carver's saga in the Dead Space Universe" reads the description on the official Dead Space website. Is Dead Space 3 the next part? If so, where does that leave Isaac Clarke? Hopefully, we'll find out at E3 next week.

If this is going to be a Dead Space game, it will not be 3, namely because EA has said that the third game is going to be the last in Isaac's saga.

That and it wouldn't be the first time there has been other main playable characters. I just wonder if he will live through it all.

I read on IGN there is rumor of co-op, drop in drop out co-op... I'm sorry but if they do that to this game it ruins it for me. (don't get on my case, I said for me, I didn't say it ruins the game so if you wanna co-op this game and think its a good idea that your thing). for me horror games are meant to be played alone in the dark and keep you guessing at what's gonna happen next, with a co-op buddy it will either turn into a shooting gallery of who is better or you'll just be dicking around having fun. I thought DS1 & 2 are great horror games because they keep you on your toes all the time and the atmosphere is amazing (especially with surround sound, you'll be turning your head around in your own room, lol)

i enjoyed watching this, it made me remember just how creepy the dead space universe is. i agree with daydreamdrooler that i dont think co-op is really the go for a type of series like dead space. the best part of these games is wandering the corridors and just taking in the atmosphere. As long as the rumor that they were turning it into a FPS is false i think ill be happy.

As for multiplayer, i couldn't care less if they put it in or not. It never took away from my singleplayer experience. Fingers crossed that this game is excellent like the first two.

When a game mentions co-op, I would love to see it as a completely separate experience. Which means not having an AI-controlled character follow you around. (RE 5 wasn't difficult without co-op, so why bother.)

This series is built on the lonely, survival aspect. Changing it suddenly then pisses off people that chose to go with this game before cause we flocked to this franchise since it offered the single player experience, something that has been disappearing. So why stick in co-op? If they have, I would like to see a different experience. Like if Isaac is on his own then he goes through the vents; if he has someone with him, they take on a number of necromorphs cause of more firepower.

@3, I'm a little torn on co-op. Agree completely it changes the dynamic and fear aspect that made the first game in particular so great, but it's a little like the original Alien movie: you can't keep doing tense to the same effect, given everyone knows what the enemy is. DS2 was still tense, but not as much as the first in my opinion. If the storyline is pushing towards more people knowing/facing the necromorphs, maybe it makes sense for co-op (as much as I nearly spewed in my mouth just then). Maybe instead of it being Aliens to the original, where you now have a team with tons of weapons, it could be about two survivors meeting in the middle, each with their own solo campaign? More than likely, it'll be a series of side missions or add on a la Severed. If handled right, and I never thought I'd say this, co-op could work.

Well, that made me excited. I'm a huge fan of the Dead Space franchise, eating it up like candy. I'm not excited about the rumors about less horror, more action, co-op and all that stuff though, but the thought of a new Dead Space is too tempting and that teaser was pretty neat.

It looked awesome when they were arriving at the new planet, but then I'm watching a really bad episode of Melrose Place? I hope they don't expect me to share this guy's concern over his wife and kid if all I know of them is that I heard her talk over the radio for 10 seconds.

Wish they'd get back to the lonely isolation of the first game. But I imagine I'll be going to "residential" walking down the corridor, getting to the room, shooting the necromorphs, and repeating that 200 times. Just like the last game. Oh, but now with co-op!!!

@9, isn't that the gameplay mechanic for these games? Going from point A to point B and "shooting the necropmorphs" that get in your way?? I have no complaints about the Dead Space games (spare Ignition) and I can't wait for 3, co-op or not. There is one things I would love to see more of. Real zero g combat!!! How about taking on that huge boss in the comic by flying around it to find the weak point. That would be pretty effin' sweet!!
