Rumour: EA To Announce Battlefield Premium Service at E3
Written Monday, May 14, 2012 By Richard Walker

Love it or hate it, but Call of Duty: Elite has been rather successful with over 2 million paying subscribers. Now rumour has it that EA is planning a similar service, offering premium content for Battlefield 3 as well as "unique" features for a fee.

Coming from a "very reliable" source on Battlefieldo, which also mentions a fifth untitled DLC for BF3 to release in March 2013, after the End Game add-on launches, the premium service could be revealed soon. According to the report, 'Battlefield Premium' will be announced on June 4th. "Battlefield Premium will land you a number of content drops with unique in-game items not available anywhere else," reads the rumour blather. "First out is the one-of-a-kind Premium knife and black dog tag, plus a set of soldier camos, weapon camos, dog tags and Assignments that will make sure you stand out and get more personalisation options."

Battlefield 3 currently has its own Battlelog community service that's completely free, and DICE and Executive Producer Patrick Bach have been resistant to the idea of a Battlefield Premium service. If this rumour turns out to be legitimate, EA could be gearing up to change all that. The truth will out at E3 2012 this June. Stay tuned!

Assuming they do something like "all 4 add on packs plus exclusive tags, etc" for 40 bucks, they'll make a killing. 4 DLC add ons x $15 = $20 savings overall if they go with 40 bucks. 99% of BF players will get the add ons anyway, so why not throw money at DICE early for them?

Won't be getting it. Plus if that means I'll have to wait longer to get DLC then I won't be getting it either.

Yeah, i remember those days.
They were the same days that you could customise your online game without the need for extortionately priced servers!

I saw this coming, and considering the £15 price tag Karkand had, i wouldnt expect a decent deal out of EA!

So now we pay for:
1. Unlocking kits/weapons ahead of time, rather than earning them.
2. Our own servers, which, until DICE put their own back up again, was almost necessary.
3. An online pass, if you've bought the game pre-owned.
4. Map packs, despite a statement by a member of the dev. team stating we would never have to pay for maps -ever-.
5. A subscription service just so we don't have to wait x number of months to get DLC that itself should have been free in the first place.

The #1 worst company in America? I think that spot is reserved for Microsoft or Activision...

@12 EA actually got voted worst company in america this year, i think that's why #10 made that comment. They rip off their customers and charge for literally everything they can possibly charge for. Battlefield already had to drop out a ton of features because EA wanted to push the date forward just to compete with COD.

The worst thing that's happened to gaming is when people have started to look at it as a business rather than a passion.

Last year at E3 they touted up and down they would never do something like this because they were so above it and there was no need to. Followed by talking down the elite service and Activision. Now here we are nearly a year later and they're considering doing the same damn thing...

If it saves me money on DLC I was already going to buy anyway, then I'm all for this service. Its just a poorly worded discount in my opinion, and I'm always up for a discount.

no shocker here. The way that the game companies cry about used games taking there money, they will do everything they can to milk gamers wallets.

@13 Even with 250,000+ votes from the SHEEP of the world, I must stand by my statement that Microsoft and Activision are MUCH worse than EA could ever hope to be... To be honest, I'm pretty irritated with EA for pushing BF3 and SWTOR out so early which has led to many problems for gamers, but at least with my disappointments with EA I don't feel as if I have just been raped by a razor laced dildo as I did after purchasing MW3!

Besides, Activision and Microsoft weren't even included in any part of the poll you are referring to, so your point is moot. Good day!

Actually they are smart. 2 million idiots paid for a service that should be included with your game, so obviously EA wants a slice of this cake. As long as people keeps paying for things like this, we will never go back. This is business. Even if somebody sold shit in a bag as a sculpture, with over 10 millions of potential customers, somebody somewhere will pay for it. EA has nothing to do with this.

The fact that ea used battlelog being free as an argument to say their better than activision is now completely moot, I remember the ridicule at elite being paid yet if this turns out to be true then they will look like greedy mugs. I hope dice break away from ea, they will suffer whilst they have the purse strings

EA is just making this shit up as they go, they have NO IDEA what the F&*% they are doing with BF3 or ME3...

Its kind of fun to watch since I dont care anymore, gave up on BF3 in Jan and ME3 as soon as I choose a "blue" decision!

EA don't make games because people like them, they make games to make money and that's it, they make what will sell.

If they find new ways to get more money from people they will, all companies are like this

Just sad that they've decided already to rip us off at every angle. When I bought BF3 preowned for 50 bucks, I ended up having to but the stupid online key. With BFBC2 the vip 2exclusive" came with the game and every online map was free with the exception of the Onslaught and Vietnam packs. They've already messed the entire pre order exclusives up by dropping them in the psn store weeks after the release... Smh.. EA is turning into another Zipper Interactive...

@19 Microsoft and Activision are certainly responsible for some shitty things but until you can give me something other then childish fanboy rhetoric then I still think EA is head and shoulders above Activision/Microsoft on the shit pile.

Say what you want about "copying" Elite, but considering how great Back to Karkand was, if this premium service includes future DLC and it's cheaper than buying each DLC separately, I fail to see how anyone can justify saying this is bad, when it would save you money. I guess some people would rather spend more because it's not cool to save money?

@37 I get it... You somehow liked MW3, so anybody who doesn't like your precious is just spouting "fanboy rhetoric"... Interesting. Or is it because I spoke ill of Microsoft? You know, they do make more than just games. Tell me, have you always been a sheep? Is it from your mother's side or your father's side? Here's the kicker, idiot: I own all of the systems and own copies of Activision games and EA games alike... Your fanboy comment is ridiculous, you're just an ignorant nobody who will always be a nobody, and you're finally realizing that now.

All I was trying to say from the beginning is that there are far worse American companies than EA...
