Tomb Raider Delayed Into Next Year

We're going to have to wait a while to slip back into Lara's khaki hotpants. Crystal Dynamics has delayed the Tomb Raider reboot until next year.

According to the announcement, the game will now hit during the first quarter of 2013. That means between January and March instead of this autumn. Boo. The explanation for the delay, as with most delays, is that they're holding the game back to add more polish. That's developer and publisher-speak for "it's just not ready yet, sorry."

Speaking on the Eidos forums, Studio boss Darrell Gallagher said, "When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about. The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers. The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can't wait to share it with you.

"Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game's release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013."

"We're doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve. We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait. The game is looking amazing and we can't wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks.

	Polish wtf it already looks better than anything we got on the ps3 now, I want it now if we wait any longer they might aswell put it on the ps4.

	Well, it doesn't look like a true Tomb Raider game anyway so I'm not too bothered. Tomb Raider is about jumping and grabbing ledges. Backflipping whilst shooting a bear with two handgun. Being crushed under rolling boulders and descending ceiling. Uncovering an ancient and occult artifact. Falling into a pit of spikes. Swimming, swimming and more swimming. Pushing, pulling anf shooting switches. And most importantly, spending an hour lost in a confusing crypt. This Tomb Raider, and the last few recent ones (Legend, Underworld) just don't have that magic that the first 4 games did. What happens when you have to pander to a wider audience by simplifying the game so much. :/

	Add this to BioShock: Infinite and possibly GTA V, and the first few months of 2013 are looking pretty good. More so than the usual October/November period!

	Let's just hope this polish makes it better than the atrocities before, and will return Tomb Raider it to it's glory days.

	I agree with #9, and I wouldn't be surprised if this could be a reason why this is happening. I was wondering what was going on with this game. It's been months since we last heard anything about it! I was growing impatient, as I loved the trailer, but looks like I'll have to wait even longer. Guess I'll have to watch E3 to see how it's looking

	It's nice to see the game spaced out a bit this year, but I'm sad that all of my pre-ordered games are getting pushed back.

	i like the look of this new one but i have not cared about Tomb Raider in a long, long time the only one i liked since the first three was anniversary, i have gone to play and enjoy the Uncharted games more than TR but i like the look and origin story but i am so glad i have not looked up a single in game vid so when it is out i will go in with an opened mind i just hope i will not be another Angel of Darkness.

	You have 4 months to polish the game morons, why do you need another 4!, just concentrate on that game and ship it out, rather than being paid to sit on your arses an extra 4 months. @15 I liked Underworld, it looked brilliant it was just the artifacts shudder you couldn't see them, defiently needed a guide for them

	Meh i'm not exited for this game anyway but i think this was coming or announced since 2010 right? thank God i'm not a fan of this series but is a shame for the fans.
