Report: Dead Space 3 Gets Huge Info Leak

More rumours regarding Dead Space 3 have surfaced, following confirmation from EA that the game will hit in this financial year. The rumours seem to support previous reports regarding setting and characters, while also offering up some intriguing suggestions about story, combat, enemies and co-op.

The latter of these is paramount, as sources are saying that the game’s main campaign will support drop-in co-operative play. Apparently, following a crash, Isaac and his companion will explore the environment, solving puzzles, sharing weapons and ammo, and healing each other.

The presence of a co-op companion ties in with previous reports that Dead Space 3 will see Issac’s mental state deteriorating even further by developing an imaginary alter-ego.

Beyond that, it is claimed that Isaac will be able to crouch, roll and take cover, in a clear nod to Gears of War and another significant step towards more action-oriented gameplay. In addition to this, all the weapons will feature new alt fire modes. The Plasma Cutter will have Force Gun-esque knockback effect on secondary fire, while the Pulse Rifle will fire saw-blades.

Variations of the Necromorphs also return, with those creepy childlike Pack things now featuring a set of legs or tentacles in place of their torso. They’re bigger too, but not as big as the game’s bosses, which appear to be reassuringly familiar. Discussed is a giant, spider-like creature with mutated sacs and glowing orange weak points, as well as a “skyscraper-sized” worm monster.

More interestingly, however, it’s also being said that Isaac will battle human opponents in the game. For the first time, he’ll go up against soldiers armed with grenades and guns. Once infected, the soldiers can become Necromorphs. Half-Life, anyone?

All of this will take place on a cold, icy planet; a rumour that supports previous suggestions of a Hoth-like setting for the game called Tau Volantis.

So there you have it, interesting stuff. Expect a full reveal at E3.

Ugh ... sounds bad. Sorry to be the Negative Nancy, but most of this sounds so much not Dead Space. The only really interesting aspect seems to be the whole alter ego concept. And what's with the more action? Seriously, there was more than enough already!

Cold planet, large enemies with glowing orange weak points, Gears-esque character movement... sounds like Lost Planet to me.

@2 With regards to the weak points on the bosses... Isn't that exactly how it worked already anyway? The bosses in Dead Space 1 all had that mechanic, although admittedly I've yet to play the second game so I dunno if thy changed it for that.

As long as they connect the story to where Dead Space 2 left off, I won't complain (about that aspect at least).

i wouldn't mind having new action features to the game, but co-op usually spoils the scary atmosphere. I just hope they keep the horror features in the game though, like scary moments.. if this is another RE5, I will get disappointed.

ive played the games and watched the animated movies and as a dead space 'fan' i can say this isnt the path i really want :/ i mean theres no horror when fight soldiers, there just so generic an undeeded, like why though, id rather have monsters pulling me in holes, pretending to be dead and jumping out of vent rather than going into a room, seeing soldiers and they shoot you... as i know im complain too much but dead space was built on fighting those things and fans got into it because of that, not for shooting people that in my mind will probably take up most of the fights in game

If Isaac crash landed on a planet the game can't be called dead space anymore.

You'd think Issac would learn to take a mobile with him.

how does crouching and rolling = a nod to any game, it's crouching and rolling two basic skill sets.

Also rumors =/= info, so will be taking this with a grain of sand and waiting to hear what they have to say, I hope there is no co-op though because well yeah survival horror doesn't work well with that just look at RE5, that was about as scary as a third person shooter.

Though if there are human's to fight in the game it's obvious who they are going to be, the guys that are really in charge of earth gov and the church, the ones that where in the dlc and book and i can't remember the name off the top of my head. But if you get to kill those assholes, I'll be happy.

I love Dead Space a lot. It knows just how to give an "Oh ****" moment every time. Not that I hate the idea, but co-op in Dead Space takes a lot out of the series. Sure you can venture on and explore with a friend, but the sense of being alone and in danger is taken out because you have someone to back you up. again, not that I don't like the idea of co-op or more action, I just want the game to be more about scaring the hell out off me and have the feeling that I got no one to rely on than myself and my skills.

Although it may not be the survival horror niche we craved any longer, it is still a sensible linear progression for the series. As Isaac understands the conflict within himself and around him, the pace of the action will increase. Then again, with this proposed mental schism he is to face, it is entirely possible that we'll have isolated, claustrophobic sections as he navigates an environment segment that he makes far more horrifying for himself. Let's say he has to go through a maintenance bay or an abandoned outpost, and his mind conjures impossible phenomena or self-projected terrors? That's all the willies you'll need for the next 20 minutes. Run-shoot-cover gameplay will be a palate cleanser after this...

@8 : Learn what the term Dead Space in the series refers to before you comment on it, okay? It has nothing to do with "space aka empty area between planets".

ooooo well I guess Isaac would have had to face the Unitologists eventually but I dunno this sounds a bit Resident Evil 5 with the ammo sharing/heal each other co-op which means non scary because you have a partner with you so Im guessing that is the survival horror side of Dead Space entirely severed since Resident Evil has turned into an action game and the second Dead Space was more action than horror, Im guessing developers have given up trying to give gamers an early age heart attack and a reason to get a change of boxers, nothing can beat the original title Dead Space which started it all though, it was brilliance, 100% horror, all on your own with... them XD.

this has resi 5 written all over it. establish a scary as hell franchise then destroy any atmosphere to focus more on action. yawn.

i agree with #14 entirely.

co-op keeps getting tagged in to games unnecessarily no matter what the game is. dead space is all about isolation which is the situation where a lot of the scares come from as its just you and no one to help you. apparently there must be a demand for it as we've seen stuff like this tagged on in games because gamers want it. i want to drive my car in reverse to work to see what happens, just because i want to do it doesnt make it a good idea

Yes, change for the better is good. Change for the worse is not. We'll see.

I'm not making any judgements just yet but i think Visceral Games could add new features without spoiling DS, i think they know what they are doing...

Dead Space was one of my favorite games of all time. Then they took the sequel and turned it into a corridor shooter with atrocious writing. And now this thing is more concerned with co-op than horror. Good grief.

Maybe a bargain bin purchase; maybe not a purchase at all.

You know we were eventually going to have to fight the church and the gov. Just imagine as you are taking some out, others are being morphed right before your eyes. This may be fantastic or a total bomb. I don't want another RE5, but I do want more Dead Space so I will get it anyway. As long as the story works and the game play is awesome, I will be happy.
Sexromorphs will pound a fist in your ass!! BEYOND!!

I think that Dead Space 3 will happen the same as Resident Evil franchise. It gonna be more action that survival horror... It's great the fact of rolling, crouch, take cover, but, I think that co-op will ruin the game. The weapons could stay the same, I like the plasma gun "alt fire". monster are big and creepier I like to see that :)

it sound kind of strange, but ohh what´s happening my hands are moving by themselves taking $60 from my wallet and putting them on a box that says "to buy dead space 3" lol. even if the game is not so good we are going to buy it, maybe when the price drop but we will for sure. I would not compare dead space with RE, the movement is 10 times better in dead space, as well as the fights. silent hill is the only survivor horror. dead space and RE are more like action games, still dead space scared me like hell a few times

I did, actually I have all Fear games, and I really like them, fear3 is a cool game, the movement is sweet, graphics and game play, good balanced game if you ask me, and multiplayer was nice as well, something else than kill a bunch of people online. but Fear is a FPS no a 3rdPS as dead space (except extraction)

If we're fighting soldiers in this one, does that mean they'll also be sticking regenerating health into a series where it doesn't belong? When you have a health bar that has 5 slots, how will bullet damage affect it???
