| I'm not hating whatsoever.. getting involded in a "healthy" debate ;) Gaming to me is all about passion and bringing something new to the table! And of course FUN! COD is dry in all them departments "Roll me in sum flour, biatch!" But yet it managed to get 5/5 in all the newpapers,magazines over here in the UK! I don't understand? It's because they're mediocre games that are hugely popular and are churned out like Big Macs at McDonald's. They have a lot of appeal to casual gamers because of the simplistic and easy gameplay both online and off. So it gets a lot of negative attention from the hardcore crowd.
I enjoy the annual CoD campaign when I've got nothing else to play. I thought Black Ops was the best of them by far so I'm sure I'll be playing this one eventually. |

They actually do reskin and rebox their game every year with little to no innovation. If they added in lazers and futuristic setting then it would probably be just as bad as past CoDs but this time it has lazers. If they actually changed it for the better we would be skeptical at first but if it was that much better we would probably like it

As a Gamestop employee, I like to look at the rest of the year before the next Call of Duty as a yearly tax season and I'm working for a tax company.
It gets busier, ESPECIALLY near the date of the release (which you could look at it as our "April 15th"), but it brings in easy business and easy pre-order numbers. Practically from the beginning it's available for pre-order to the day before its release is it easy to rake in those numbers. |

Since I haven't played a COD game since MW2 (which I was disappointed with, despite the fact I liked MW), so I never tried Black Ops, I've heard nothing but negativity about it from people I know, but I like having a bit of variety in my games (by that I mean variety in genre), and I currently don't have any FPS games.
So this is my question to all of the COD fans, was Black Ops any good, or should I just pick up MW again?
When I get more info, I'll decide whether or not to get Black Ops II, at the moment it's on my "undecided" list due to having practiacally no info besides the title. |

Don't buy this shit, i really regret buying Black Ops. It was a fucking disgrace with it's PS2 like graphics and game physics, it was an experiment by them to see that if they threw shit pie on your plate whether you would lap it up....well alot of people did and no surprise they got a bad taste in their mouth.
MW3 will be my last online shooter, not got it yet. MW1 may have brought some credibility to gaming but it came at a price: Domination of the online shooter with no great variety of any worth to rival it. Online Uncharted is just average, Bioshock was just a bad idea, Assassins Creed is fucking appalling!!! Battlefield Bad Company 2 for me is just fun, Battlefield 3 was Dice's version of shit pie.
Missing missions, dead DLC Map Packs, online passes, Elite memberships....wow gaming innovation has never looked so promising :) |

I think this might be the first COD game i don't buy. Such a shame to see how the series has gone downhill since COD4, which is probably my favorite game to date. COD4 stayed in my console for about 6 months solid, no other game even came off my shelf. I play MW2 for about 8 days play time, W@W was decent buy laggy, Black ops i played for about a days play time (crashed my PS3 50+ times) and MW3 i think I've only played for about 10 hours.
I know everyone does the 'rah rah i'm not buying this crap!' but I've genuinely lost interest now. The games are stale and half-assed, and really do COD4 an injustice. Game developers with passion should have boosted off from the success of COD4, with the opportunity of a huge player base, but instead money hungry businessman have sucked it dry just for some extra dollars. |

COD 4 was the most balanced of all of the COD games (of the new generation) - balanced as in there was nothing in it really that overpowered something else in the game. The story was the best (although WAW was pretty good) The game was not built around kill streaks like MW2, they complimented the game, they weren't THE game. The levels for multiplayer were the best, they even knew this in MW2 and that is why a lot of the DLC was adding in levels from COD 4. It was the first so it remains ingrained in people's minds as being the near perfect game it was, before the rest of the COD games came along trying to add to a near perfect formula. I could go into more detail about the balance, guns, perks, kill streaks ect. but it isn't really necessary. |

@52 It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that IW brought innovation to the Call of Duty series by mixing interesting and fluid gameplay with a fun and skill-based multiplayer, could it? CoD4 (and it's clone WaW) were the best because they were pure and untainted. CoD wasn't "the" game when CoD4 came out, but CoD4 made CoD "the" game series it is today. Everything after was a sad attempt to recreate CoD4 but trying to mix new aspects like Pro Perks and selectable killstreaks.
And Treyarch, why you disappoint? Black Ops II? Just...no. Iron Wolf? Eclipse? Why did you pick such an awful name? |

COD 2 = IW
COD 3 = TREYARCH
COD 4 MW = IW

@6 Because for some of us we'd like to think that the people who put in the most effort deserve the bigger sales and while we're not saying the guys who actually make the Call Of Duty games don't make any effort their forced into making games that do nothing new for the industry.
At the same time these games still gain a huge amount of sales and other titles such as Bioshock which offer a lot more and are able to push the boundaries of what we can do in games are just ignored. All the great original titles might as well have never been released when COD comes out. If Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer games or even Treyarch were given even an ounce of creative freedom, the games could be so much better. |

| I can't believe that so many people hate these games when each one breaks records. Most of the opinions about CoD are so extreme. It's either "OMG. These games are so gay. It's always reboxed crap! I hate it so much. Never ever gonna play it." or "OMG. I HAVE to get to 15th prestige! *sinks 100+ hours into multiplayer*". If you don't like it, that's fine. Just trade it in and get something you will enjoy. You don't have to bitch and moan on every website everytime there's some news about it. |

| If you like COD great, if you hate it, fine. everyone is entitled to their opinion. personally i play them but try to buy them when their cheap. The main problem with COD is that its expected every year on roughly the same day so therefore theres not enough time to make the game as good as it SHOULD be by now. they need to take more time and put more effort in, then everyone would be satisfied. it is pretty much the same thing every year ands thats good for the casual players and COD elitist's but bad for the hardcore players. its also bad for the industry in a way, if they keep doing so well year after year by doing little in the way of innovation we will see less new IP's as the companies will start to think "we need to just make something that people are used to and expect" instead of trying new things. My hat goes off to companies like Irrational Games(2K Boston), they released Bioshock in 2007, gave 2k Marin the lead on Bioshock 2(which still wasn't a same day next year release) and have been working on Bioshock Infinite for 5 years which looks amazing. Companies like Irrational deserve praise much more than Treyarch do. I've been gaming for 24 years and im looking forward to the next 24, that'll be when Black Ops 14 comes out, right? :p |

| oh and @70, Treyarch and IW used to work together to make each COD, its just IW had the lead on the better COD's(as COD is IW) and Treyarch lead on the silly attempts at blockbuster movie style COD's, so it is 8-11months really. |

I don't even know why I'm going to try, but whatever, here it goes. I'll add my two cents.
I actually like Treyarch, for the most part. They listen to fans and get things changed (again, for the most part). Look at Black Ops 1. AK-74u got nerfed a bit because people thought it was too powerful. Killing someone in Last Stand gave you an assist, instead of the kill, if you were not the person who downed them, because people wanted it changed. Treyarch also somewhat took down the knifing range as well, because the fans were tired of getting lunged at because of MW2. I feel that Treyarch really does try to please the fans, but Black Ops had more problems than just balance issues. Sadly, it had major hit detection and lag issues. I say sadly because, aside from the FAMAS and AUG, the game was pretty balanced. Also the maps weren't TOO bad. They weren't great, but they weren't horrible.
As much as I hate to say it, I MIGHT actually give Black Ops 2 a chance if players say the hit detection has been fixed. Treyarch would just lie about it being fixed. Also I might give Black Ops 2 a chance if they bring back bots and make them more human-like. It was fun grabbing a friend or two and taking on a whole team full of 8 bots seeing if you'd win, but the whole bots aimbotting you through walls wasn't cool. lol |

I guess it doesn't matter how many times I say it. Regardless of someone's opinion on this issue the "don't like it don't buy/play it" argument is stupid. People are going to criticize the game. Whether it's legitimate criticism or not is open to debate but using don't like it don't play it is an awful counter argument that is used mostly by fanboys in an attempt to exempt something from criticism.
Also using the "you can't do it as well as the developers argument" is just as stupid. Just because most people can't design a web page or develop games doesn't mean that people can't criticize the people that do design them. If everyone thought that way then no one would ever criticize anything. |

None of the call of duty series has had an original idea since the first modern warfare. its the same class, perks, and leveling type system. If they could branch out away from that than I'd have some respect. Or if Trey-arch made a zombies game and only zombies. That would be sweet. |

I would like to see an end to both CoD and MW and the start of something new. Both Infinty Ward and Treyarch just can't believe their luck that they don't have to change much as far as the multiplayer side of it to keep selling their games by the million.
So i guess those that keep buying it obviously must love it...fair enough but the other gamers that just hate these games probably think that these two series dominate the online scene far too much and stifle any competition and i believe they've got a point.
The MW games are all technically quite impressive, Spec Ops i thought was the best part of MW2 and the multiplyer became more of an arcade game experience which wasn't to my liking.
Treyarch games to me look appalling, they are on par with PS2 visually. They look very dated.
I hope within 5 years these games will be a distant memory and online shooters would have moved on to better things, i'm sure many will look back fondly on these games but also realise how basic they really were...but then online shooters are still very much in their early years.
Maybe a big sales dip might shock these leaders of online shooters into action and deliver something new and great. |

| I think where activision and trey arch fail is the fact that thwy never come out with new IP. They need new games and fresh ideas instead of relying solely on the COD series. Take DICE for example. They have Medal of Honor AND Battlefield. |
