@2 You've hit the nail right on the head there, it always seems to be the gamers who only play one game, such as COD or FIFA, and never fully engage with Sony/PSN services who complain most.
I don't mind maintenance, it's just a bit galling that they call it 'scheduled' but only let us have 4.5 hours notice. If I'd known at 8am before leaving for work I'd have left my PS3 on; at 9:30 it was too late. I've asked whether a minimum notice period of 24 hours could be investigated, James Gallagher seems to agree but we'll have to see whether his bosses feed this upwards or just quash it like they seem to do with other things they don't want to hear... |

| Not to complain or anything, but I really wonder why they need to have maintenance so often. XBL seems to do fine and they don't fo it as much. Anyone know what they're actually doing? |

| @6 they announce all scheduled Maintenance at least 1 week prior too doing so! just gotta use the playstation website more! and they have it posted in that scrolling news Bar on the XMB! |

| @5 Americans have the maintenance done on inconvenient hours as well. It's not like its during the night hours when people are sleeping. It's always during the day time when people are normally playing online. |

| You know I don't mind them taking down the servers to do what ever they need too, but some kind of post explaining why and what they are doing would be nice. So that way I am not just thinking "Those damn jerks are gonna interfere with my mw3 time.". |

@2 Is that sarcasim? If not then yeah it's annoying but since the PSN Hack I think we've been seeing more maintenance from Sony as they clearly want to make sure a repeat of the hack dosen't happen or something else due to any unseen problems with the server. It's annoying but trust me in the long run it works out better for us like this. (How did you get -7?)
As for me I'll be ok. I've got Crysis 1/2 and I Am Alive to hold me over.

| This is annoying as I wanted to play birds of steel online. However PSN is a free service and a good one at that, this is why I didn't have a problem with the outage last year. |

| im ok with this i knew about it and i got lots offline gameing to do so i wont get mad im a 90s kids who does not need online i can play 1 player games or go to a peeps house to play. maybe some of you should try that you get to go outside for the 1st time in years. | They probably do all this maintenance now to ensure that they don't get hacked again. Security updates and the like. It is weird though because I can usually still get online before the end of their outage window. |

Could they not have all thing prepared before taking it offline to just go an almost on the fly update, rather than taking it down for 13 hours, that's kinda overkill I.m.o.

@36 sorry to hear that. I just got a new PS3 320GB since my MGS 80GB YLOD last month.
I was able to redownload about 250GB of my downloads in only 3 days which was nice.
I'm wondering if this "scheduled maintence" has anything to do with the recent Vita hacks. I saw Sony removed a couple of PSN (PSP) games that you were once able to download to your Vita. I hope that's not their solution... "just remove it!" or remove PSP emulation on the Vita altogether because people are playing homebrew on the Vita. I suppose they will do what they have to like when they removed OtherOS, but it sucks. |

It seems to just be the marketplace whats down as I can sign in and have been able to all day, only thing I can't do is goto marketplace.

| I wish they would start explaining what the hell "Maintenance" is. It's really unprofessional to bring the network down monthly and not actually explain why. On the very rare occasion that Xbox Live goes down, Microsoft is generally good about giving everyone a straight answer about why. For Sony to bring PSN down so frequently without real explanation is very poor form. |

| The reason PSN is getting more maintainance than shitty XBL (Sorry, its my opinion. Can't help myself) lately is probably because Sony just released a new games console called a Vita which also uses PSN. My guess is that most of the updates will be about the Vita side of things more than anything else. |
