With Resistance: Burning Skies just over a month away, developer Nihilistic Software has revealed the first multiplayer details for the on-the-go alien shooter, with its all-new single-player campaign joined by competitive 8-player battles via Wi-Fi. There'll be Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and a unique third mode that the dev is set to reveal next week.

Burning Skies' multiplayer will also feature support for smaller skirmishes for 2v2 or slightly larger 4v4 matches, with cross-game party chat, ranking up with bonus XP and new weapons granted for completing skill-testing objectives. You'll be able to upgrade and customise your weapons too, with the Bullseye getting explosive tags, for instance.

Resistance: Burning Skies' will also feature six multiplayer maps, taking in locations like Staten Island and the docks of Bayonne. There'll be leaderboards and social features accessible via 3G too. Sounds good. Resistance: Burning Skies will be heading to PS Vita on May 29th in North America and May 30th in Europe. Trailer and screens below.

Looks good but did anyone else notice the framerate drops? Prehaps it was an old build or just the video..

Graphics look very meh... and yeah, perfomance issues are still in there...

If this isn't cleaned up by the time it releases, I'll be buying something else instead, which is a shame because I really like the Resistance games.

@1 Yeah I noticed some drops but in the larger areas where I would expect to see drops I didn't. Go figure.

As far as graphics I find most video trailers for handhelds look like ass. Hopefully the end product looks nice :).

Looks like the special game mode has to do with either having six lives or getting six kills, guestimating from the pics.

So this is Vita's first FPS, right? The future of FPSs on Vita is riding on Resistance's shoulders...or at least until CoD comes out...

@8 never needed flash before an I personally like the iPhone more than other phones every phone has good stuff and bad stuff I'm not going to buy a phone just for flash why don't they just do the videos in a format everyone can watch.

I'm hoping the frame rate slugging is just a trailer thing, since this game looks fantastic for being a handheld game otherwise.

I might have to seriously consider a Vita soon if the line-up of games keeps getting stronger like this.
