Want to see a Need for Speed movie? Nah, me either. But it looks like we might get one anyway. 

Variety is reporting that Real Steel producer John Gatins has developed a concept for the film. EA would co-produce the project, while John's brother George Gatins would help write the script. 

George Gatins’ previous credits include a producer role on the short film, “My Wife is Retarded.”

The pitch is making its way around Hollywood at the moment. So far Paramount, Sony and Warner Bros. have indicated interest. A “low-seven figure range” bidding war is expected.

The Need for Speed series is big business for EA, generating over $100 million for the publisher. Presumably it’s that which makes a potential movie viable. It certainly isn’t the franchise’s overarching narrative because... well, there isn’t one.

Indeed, the series’ most cinematic effort to date, Need for Speed: The Run, was decidedly mediocre. 

Reportedly, in order to grease the wheels of the deal a little, EA are pitching the movie as the beginning of a The Fast and the Furious-style series of films.
