| I still thinks it's cheap and misleading. You wouldn't buy a house, only to be told you need to pay more money to use the bedroom. |

| If the price of the digital download is cheaper than buying the game in store, I'm all for it. Just like they were saying Vita games were going to be so much cheaper, and then turns out they were only 4-7 dollars cheaper. There needs to be some difference for not having the ability to sell your game when you are done. |

pic unrelated me thinks?? it's pretty shoddy, but as a consumer, all we can really do is deal with it or start working in games design and hopefully get in to a position that can actually prevent it happening |

I'm even less convinced by this gobshite. It may be an ugly truth but that doesn't mean it's unavoidable, it's been avoided pretty well until Capcom started screwing gamers over and Bleszinski decides to jump on the bandwagon. Nice picture, I guess PS3T think this guy is a wanker too... |

| Yes and another ugly truth is even if your game has problems post-release them spare months you will add DLC instead of sorting your game out, and you wonder why people get pissed off. And most of the dev's don't understand there own concept of DLC, meaning it's downloadable content. |

| If its on the disc already then when you bought the game whats on that disc you have already paid for, so when they do release it, it should be unlocked for free. |

| On the disc, on the PSN store, it makes no difference how 'DLC' is stored when it is released so soon after a game's launch. Unless DLC goes back to what it originally was for - expanding on a game three, six or nine months after its release - it will be a rip-off either way. |

There is nothing wrong with On-Disc DLC. It's just that you make us pay 10 bucks for unlocking something we already physically purchased with our 60 bucks. And digital distribution will never "kill such behaviour off" if games are not considerably cheaper for the less you get. There are even games priced at 70 EUR in PSN while they're priced 50 by some retailers. As for compatibility issues: If you know what you're adding, add it and release the game in full instead of breaking it into chunks we have to gradually purchase to get a full game. DLC has to be a bonus purchase if I like your game, not cut out parts of the actual game. Also, didn't Bleszinski defended Online Passes earlier? This man clearly lost touch with his average customer. |

| @8 said it perfectly. This sounds more like a defense of Day 1 DLC, not on disc. If you had time to put it in disc, you have time to let us access it. Or hey, not enough time to get your ideals on disc? Push the release date back a week. Yeah you'll catch shit for it, but nowhere near what Capcom is facing |

| What I don't understand is if the developers have time to spare until the game releases, months after its done, why not retest it for quality and make sure everything is as tight as possible and there are no gaps in performance. if the game is already completed, tested, and believed to be the best possible product possible and there is still time, why not try to squeeze more on the disc? If the data is fully occupied on the disc, then why not move on to something else to keep your team occupied. Wouldn't that be the best why to use that spare time? This article makes me doubt that some developers know what they are doing with their development window. |

Honestly, If its extra's that the game can play without, or that you dont need to get platinum trophey, then i dont give a F#$%^%. If its Extra, over and above whats supposed to be released with it, and its on the disc, but i have to pay, i really dont care. The only time this is the problem is if the extra contect is really part of the game, I.E. Multiplayer, or weapons you will need to get all trophies. Dont think i have seen this happen yet, so no worries. |

seeing as virtually every game requires an online pass these days how about this idea Day 1/on disc DLC is free with an online pass, so anyone that buys the game new and therefore gets the online pass for free, gets the on disc dlc for free (like from the ashes with ME3), but people that buy used have the choice of either paying for the DLC individually and no online pass, or pay for the online pass and get the DLC discounted That way loyal customers that buy games at full price via either preorder or day 1 purchases get respected and treated with the free dlc, and the games companies get their money from used games sales via the online pass and then some money with discounted dlc, or full dlc costs from used games players who only want to buy specific dlc packs We all know now that even games with no online components come with online passes (KoA) so it's the best way i think to keep everyone happy |

| It looks like everyone here didn't play that lovely game called Mortal Kombat 9. You know the one so cut up by DLC that getting online games was atrocious because if you didn't have one of the DLC characters you couldn't play against said person. On-disc solves this. A little segmentation as possible. |

| Ok you got to keep your devs working, I can understand that, but what were you doing back in the days when the game went as it is? No online, no DLC just the game in the cartridge or on the disc? Huh yeah, you had to work on an OTHER game... not stealing the gamers with a dumbass DLC... seriously.. I can understand that things have changed, but you don't have to be that dumb.. I mean if I buy a DLC for a game I'd like to download something bigger than an unlock of 42Kb.. to unlock something I already OWN on the disc... |

@1 & 22 AAAAAAMEN. Cliffy basically just shot himself in the foot with that statement. In a nutshell, he said that the DLC content IS on the disc and completely finished. So there's no reason to lock it except for greed. And as for going totally digital, all these devs who claim that it would remove DLC and online passes are not considering two things: 1: What I consider "The Tangibility Factor". People say that knowing is half the battle, and getting there is half the trip. And along those same lines, holding the game in your hands is half the gaming experience for people. When I play a PSN downloaded game, it's just not the same. 2: Frankly, most people, myself included, just don't trust "the cloud" or whatever it is to keep our purchases safe. |

there was me thinking dlc = downloadable content. but it doesn't dlc = disc locked content. @26 the reason i prefer a disc is it belongs to you. you can sell them do what you want with them but downloadable games you don't own them. if you can't get online or psn gets shut down you cant get to any of your games.i keep my old consoles and i can play any game at any time on them.you won't be able to do that with downloadable games. |

Woow just woow..., and i thought that Epic Games was a great company... (still do it but i didn't like this comments). This comments didn't me change my mind because still be a rip-off this Disc locked content, i can understand if this method is used by small developers or indies company that they make the game and leave some extra uncomplete feature as future DLC, that is acceptable, BUT we are talking about Capcom a big company that has a lot of money, resaurce and other things to make games and also all the locked content DLC are complete!, so what we talking about!?, "don't compare oranges with apples" Cliff. Also is sad that in this days others games company do the same with this (like the online pass), the only company that i saw that until now still didn't do it is Rockstar and 2K games (i think most of the developer must learn from them in how make a game and treat their fans) |

| all we do when we buy dlc's is supporting their costly habits that's all, if they want to do dlc, then offer a special edition with physical collectibles and all future dlc for a fraction of individual dlc. greed is just everywhere nowadays, smh. |

He's wrong on both counts. 1. There's a difference between having some parts of DLC in the main game for compatibility and having 100% completed content waiting on the disc ready to use that you can't use until you give Capcom another cunting $20. 2. Digital distribution will not end on-disc DLC. It will just change the name of it. Digital games already have DLC locked inside that you have to pay extra for, just look at Mass Effect 3. Go digitally download that and then unlock Javik by editing one line of text in a file instead of paying EA $10. |

You know what would be great? Longer dev cycles. Is it necessary to bring out a new iteration of same franchise every year? No. Does it make them a crap-load of money? Probably. I could live with one game for several years if they bothered to update and maintain it after release and I knew they didn't rush it to compete pointlessly with other games. I'm sure those extra months of development would ensure Capcom freed up the necessary kilobytes for new costumes though *sigh*. |

The idea of fully digital downloads is horrible for me. Not only do I personally enjoy having something physical for what I pay for, I enjoy having the cases sitting on my shelf. I love seeing the cover art and what not. Not to mention that PSN has games sitting full price of $60 all the time when I can go to Amazon and snag it for $10-15. If it goes all digital games will always sit at $60 because they will have no incentive to lower it because they will have a monopoly of the sales. |

| @34 I think what Cliff is talking about is less Capcom and more Bioware. From my understanding the ME3 dlc wasn't on the disc but they put some stuff for compatibility on the disc before they were done with the dlc so when they did the dlc it'd be compatible. Instead of having a patch the game to make the dlc compatible like games such as RDR do with its dlc. Kind of like having a patch already on the disc. When the dlc comes out you download the full dlc. What Capcom does is having all the dlc done on the disc and charge you for it and blatantly let you know with a 100kb unlock code. |

This is a hot topic, wish the game companies would stop trying to convince us they aren't ripping us off and just stop ripping us off -_- Digital only is total nonsense as well, at least when you buy it retail you get a manual and a case and all that, digital is just another way of them ripping us off, cause they don't have to print out all the extras anymore, but still charge us the same price, if i buy a digital copy of something it has to be cheaper than the retail copy. |

Cliff is right about some of the content needing to be on the disc but I think he's talking more about DLC as a whole and forgetting about when you have DLC that is 100% on the disc. All DLC we download is partially on the disc even if we don't realise it but what companies like Capcom do is just insulting. There's placing DLC on the disc partially to make sure it runs in a way that works and then there's just placing a downloadable key on the online stores so you can access content you already own. This is why I hate buying digitally, you look at the PSN Store, I've had multiply times now where the store is claiming I haven't bought content I've bought online. That's three movies I've bought that I can't get back now. If I bought those from HMV there's no way they could break into my house to reclaim the DVDs. The digital market has a long way to go before we trust them. Step 1 would be letting us keep the things we buy. |
