Codemasters has announced that it's to remain the home of Formula One games, extending its partnership with the official Formula One World Championship Limited with a multi-year deal that will see the developer's specialist racing studio in Birmingham continue to craft its F1 series.

"Codemasters has created some of the best and most successful Formula One games to date. We and the teams work closely with them and look forward to creating more award winning games together in the future," said diminutive F1 billionaire CEO, Bernie Ecclestone.

"We got off to a strong start with Formula One but we harbour ambitions to do much more. Formula One is front of mind at Codemasters and we give it the focus and attention it deserves. We have established close links across the sport and they know that, in Codemasters, they have a great partner," added Codies CEO, Rod Cousens. "We remain ambitious with our plans and want to take the series forward. We want to take it to new geographies, make it available on new platforms to new audiences."

Codemasters is readying an announcement for a family-based F1 title that'll be due this holiday season, and no doubt we'll hear word of F1 2012 in due course.

codemasters aint really done much to improve the 1st game they made, and rewinds are a shit idea, they should never be used in a so called sim.

No it doesn't but you also don't have to use them. I never did.

Actually I'm not against rewind. there were times on GT5 that I wish they were present. I'm accident prone on the last lap, I guess I get too excited.

Rewinding after you spin out in the last lap beats restarting the whole race. Just saying.

This is good news, they made two great games. When you suck as much at the game as I do, you need the rewinds. Although I can do fast enough laps, I'm prone to miss my braking point and fly into the gravel multiple times in a race!

@1 - i think you have a misconception of what codemasters racing games are like.. codemasters never claimed to be a 'real sim' like gt5. they have always had a semi-arcade feel to their racing games. so actually, the rewinds are not out of place in their games.

@#6 - neither arcade or sim?
just a masters of playing it safe give rewinds so people who are shit can have at least a hand full of chances per race.
and dumb down the sport at the same time.

rather they went sim route.
they probably going to resell the same game again and change nothing.
it should be dlc for new teams and rosters/paint jobs.

if only microprose were around still and had the licence the game would be a belter.

In two games, codemasters have delivered a better F1 game than anything since F1 97. I can't wait to see what they add in 2012... maybe a "create your own team" thing?

I think the F1 gaming industry really can be improved on. Codemasters have defo added something to it. Although id like to see Test Driver roles and starting off your career away from F1 and working your way up. I know this would kill the idea of being called F1 (year) but would be far better.

Another thing id personally like to see is cars having a potential. Although of coarse improving via upgrades etc. Obviously the AI also bveing able to upgrade parts. I think being in a HRT and walking races just isnt fun.

@#9 i also like the idea of being able to create your own team however i think that making an F1 managment game would be better for this. Although i just don't see this being on codemasters radar. Something like F1 2000 by EA sports would be a good start but that game needs a large improvement. I rekon you could sit down for 2 hours and design a better game on paper. Obviously turning that into a game would be extremely difficult.
