after charging rediculous prices on the morjoity of their games and using that to prey on poeple who dont know much about games (my mum) im almost happy to see them going in a way so (my mum) wont spend £39.99 on a game where she could get it for £25 - £30 practically anywhere else. but if anything ill remeber being a little kid and going to game with my mum to pick up resident evil 2, great day :') |

| I never bought my Games at my local GAME shop.. (Inverness, Scotland) It's usually loaded with oldies getting ripped off! Extremely unpleasant shop. The staff are rude.. We need a happy/loving gaming community.. Not a shop full of people who don't have any passion for the industry ^_^ |

Apart from stiff online competition GAME/Gamestations's main problem is lack of vision. They run two brands against each other and both brands have separate online and high street models; in effect they have tried to run 4 businesses instead of just one, which is pure stupidity. The only way they could have stayed in business would have been to create one brand and to ensure that brand has something unique to offer... i.e. a joined-up online/high-street experience. Play doesn't allow you to order online and collect in-store, Amazon doesn't have shops where you can trade-in games and then use the proceeds towards online purchases. This would have set them up as THE dedicated game retailer and given them a future, but because their management are a bunch of grasping muppets it's all going down the pan. Hopefully Gamestop can do something, but I think that possibility will also be online-only. |

| I'm from Canada so I don't really know what the service is like at these stores or what they've been going through but just by the looks of them alone I'd way rather shop here then ebgames/gamestop. Honestly I dread going into my local ebgames because its filled with a bunch of punks and know it all managers who try and sell you any useless crap the second you walk in the door. Just looking at this place makes me wish it was in Canada. Too bad they couldn't come to North America and take ebgames/gamestop down a peg or two because they'd have my support. |

The worst every thing to happen to gaming retail was GAME buying out GameStation I know some people who now work/run/own Grainger Games where I live and they all left because of the s*** they had to put up with from GAME. It will go down as one of the baddest gaming retail investments when these 2 finally bite the bullet. Only thing is I feel sorry for the crap current staff have had to put up with from the idiots at top it was them that caused issues with staff leaving from G.S I was told due to there interference with the stores should be run. And I feel sorry for the potential job losses because there gonna a lot of people out of work if they do go down. |

| I've recently spoke to someone at game and they said this is all due to ea and capcom wanting to charge full price for their games. £50 for mass effect etc so fair play to em for saying no |

| I'm sure by now UK gamers are beginning to see a pattern and have started pre ordering games elsewhere. You always hate to see a store go out of business, but sadly happens all the time. |

| @9 - not so sure i understand what you're saying? GAME is wanting to charge full price for a game, regardless of when it was released?? |

| @9 - or is that EA/capcom want GAME to pay $60 for the games, just to stock them? (meaning they would make not profit selling them at $60 and would need to sell them higher) if that is the case, then i definitely understand them not wanting to carry those companies games anymore |

Whilst the loss of 10,000 jobs is a real shame, I won't be sad to see GAME go. My brother-in-law got me Portal 2 for Christmas and I know for a fact that he would have been ripped off and could have got it cheaper new on Amazon. Why would Gamestop buy them anyway? It's clearly not a wise investment. |

@#9 I was told in store today that their fall out with EA was due to them wanting pre-payment in front for games like Mass Effect 3, so it would make EA's yearly sales look stronger. It has nothing to do with GAME standing up to EA's price policy. I'm sure they know they'd need to stock their titles because the yearly big hitters like Battlefront, Fifa and other sports titles will be a lions share of their own yearly sales. My local Game blows, but I like my local Gamestation and hope the issue resolves so they don't lose their jobs. It does seem stupid GAME own two games chains, then have them compete against each other in the same high streets. |

@9 that isnt true, but not far wrong, Game were somehow paying £35 per copy of a game to stock it and then selling it for £40 thus only making a £5 profit per game sold, then to keep up with other companies that price has to be reduced as per competitor so they were then making a loss on each copy, HMV for instance buy for £25 per copy and make a £15 profit per game....its not difficult to work out which company has done better business! As for Gamestop being interested, havent they been trying to buy them for the last 4 years and everytime game have turned it down as they dont like the way gamestop have there stores laid out?...i cant see anyone wanting to buy the company as with all the developers/distrubutors not dealing with them now im not sure they would do business with them now anyway. To be completly honest i dont see it as much of a loss to the high street, i agree to other comments made about there staff being rude and snubbish, i mean come on as soon as you walk in the store we all should have the commen ground of loving games! There price structure (especially pre-owned) is ridiculous (happy feet 2 for £27.99 used anyone???) |

| @#3 Aint just Inverness bud, the one in Elgin is just as bad. I was in on Friday for the sale they had on (i got9 games for £17) and they were actually telling customers to buy xbox related goods instead of Playstation. One customer was in buying a PS Vita and the staff member told him he shouldn't buy it and that he should buy an xbox elite instead. |

@3 & 16 good to see some fellow gamers in my region, I live between Elgin and Inverness and I totally agree with you both. The Inverness GAME store is a joke the staff haven't a clue and just prey on old folkies looking for a game for their grandson/daughter, clearly being ripped off and as for Elgin Gamestation I haven't been anywhere so bias if you haven't got an xbox you aren't worth the time. mrshota its funny you should say that "One customer was in buying a PS Vita and the staff member told him he shouldn't buy it and that he should buy an xbox elite instead" I remember when I bought my first PS3 from them the woman laughed and said "haha you should of bought a 360 instead of that crap box" which is exactly what I wanna hear when Im buying £400+ worth of game console, I haven't ever had a good deal from them until now they are selling their stock on the cheap. |

well i live in northern ireland and the gamestop store i been in are just as bad as game. they also rip off with the prices they charge so things would be no better if they took over from game. plus the staff were a bunch of knobs as well with little to no gaming in there blood. looks like tesco, asda and co will be the big winners out of this you just have to buy when it gets released as only top 40 will be stocked thats the only down side. |

| @#17 aye i was quite stunned too. The price of a 3G Vita compared to an xbox elite, lol. I would also like to clarify that i am not actually from Elgin, i just study there. i live way along the coast near Buckie, which is probably just as bad, lol. |

@21 LOL ah a Buckie dweller, well I can confirm that it is just as bad saying your from Elgin or Buckie because I too am from the hell hole known as Buckie, worst part is if I had your real name I probably know who you are because everyone in Buckie knows everyone in the planet, be afraid be very afraid LOL @18 I went for a job interview at Game once and they asked all these questions like what my favourite game was etc so me and the manager had an hour conversation about Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid (possibly my longest interview I have ever had) but the job went to a young 16 year old girl who thought that Final Fantasy was a porno..... and they wonder why they are going into administration LOL |

| @5 I finally gave up on EB recently when they wouldnt allow me to preorder FFXIII-2, and furthermore often 'run out' of the preorder bonuses that I was entitled to. I do my shopping off of the future shop and amazon.ca website now, I might get the game a day later, but its always at least $5 cheaper, and shipped to my door. I have ordered 3 games so far this year, and have had nothing but good experiences. |

| @22 that was exactly like my interview wen i started at game. Trouble was at christmas, 11 young girls were hired n i had to teach them everything. Made me laugh at the fact they had no clue about games and actually thought gamera were geeks. I liked the job overall as me n one other guy knew wot it was about but no one else did. I to be honest cant wait for them to go into aministration solely for the cut prices. My mate jus got 10 320gb ps3 systems for £150 each n sellin em for £200. Win win for the consumer at the mo. |

@24 LOL aye mare than likely and same goes for masel ana but to be honest its the ootskirts of Buckie Im lucky enough nae to bide in the centre o it (anymore at least LOL) but its good tae find someone that ya can speak the patter tae rether than typin it a in proper english for abidys understanding XD @25 in the immortal words of Charlie Sheen I would say your 'Winning' LOL it certainly turns a negative into a positive for joe public so make some money, good thinking. I thought that Gamestop was thinking of a buy out, what is everyones opinion of Gamestop? are they better? worse? I saw that they made a UK website but I haven't bothered with it because all the good editions of games redirect you to the US version of the site. |

I actually worked for GAME as a Christmas temp 3 years ago, and I have to say it was the worst employment experience of my life. I thought to myself, "Hey, GAME are hiring, I need some extra cash, and I know a shitload about games! perfect!" I quit within 3 weeks. You're told to approach people who are browsing, minding their own business, with the sole intent of selling them something (but making it seem like you want to help them) and the store is PACKED over christmas; constant queues and the same GAME radio on loop every 2 hours is hell. Our boss gave us "Target Sheets" which said something like, X consoles - X accessories - x GAMEcare (console insurance), that we had to sell. and if we didn't reach ALL of the targets, we got a bad performance mark. and if it happened 3 times, you get yelled at! So it's no wonder the staff there really push products on you. I'm sure at one point we were told to say a game is good even if we know it isn't, if the customer is interested in the product. I'll miss game, just because I like having a place to look around (Cardiff will be reduced to only HMV and some department stores for games) but honestly, I'm glad. Here's hoping this allows some independent stores to open up, with a friendlier atmosphere. |

| Alot of my friends work for both GAME and GAMESTATION, in fact the manager of game in PRESTON, Lancashire is a good friend of mine and they are all crapping their pants about the possible outcome! It needs someone like Gamestop to buy them out, which their is a rumor flying around that maybe the case!!! |

i hope they survive in some form but they need to change the way they do business big time. in the mean time 24 games for £61 for me this week, pick of the bunch being Vanquish PS3 Steelbook for £2.98 and Fallout New Vegas PS3 Collectors Edition for just £4.98 with game and contents sealed. |

| The one thing I'll really miss about Game is their great trade-in deals. Just a couple of weeks ago I took a bunch of old games down there expecting to get sod-all for them and they gave me £45. Not bad considering I was never going to play them again and they just would've been taking up space on my shelves. |
