Rewind back to late August last year, and you might have been getting as excited as we were at the prospect of cross-platform play for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the PlayStation Network, but as of today, Valve has decided to shelve that particular feature, based on feedback from the game's beta.

The decision will instead allow Valve to offer constant updates to PC and Mac players, making each platform "stronger" according to a statement from the studio.

"The beta has proved we want to update not just the beta, but the game itself post-launch frequently on the PC," Valve's Chet Faliszek told Joystiq. "To do that we need to separate the platforms so one doesn't hamstring the other. So for that, we have removed the idea of cross-platform play - essentially make all platforms stronger by not mixing them."

There's several online petitions circulating to reinstate cross-platform play, but for now, it's sadly off the table. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is coming to PSN later in the year.

	Interest = Lost I'll just stick to Counterstrike Source on PC.

	Had to expect this. PC players already would have had an accuracy edge, console players would have had a movement edge...plus there's so many variables to consider between the various platforms that would have made a perfect implementation almost impossible. The best way to start with cross-platform gaming would be to try it with consoles first, but with Xbox Live being a paid service and PSN being free, it creates roadblocks that prevent such a feature from ever seeing fruition.

	@3 You were going to be put up against players of the same skill level. So it wouldn't matter what you were going to use.

	@3 Which is a good idea in theory whenever it's tossed out, except nobody can ever get it right since it's too difficult to measure skill accurately.

	If they had cross platform play, there would be a lot of problems as well in terms of hacks and maps. What do you think was your percentage of valve maps and custom maps? 50/50? I know im speaking for my self but i also played custom games 80% of the time. Like the super hero servers. Punisher, spiderman(+hook), and all that stuff. Very fun. And the people that think mouse and keyboard players wont have an advantage, have not played a lot of pc games.

	How is this bad news? I'm glad we're gonna have to stay away from the hack-happy PC community. They can keep their cheaters to themselves as far as I'm concerned.

	Please do not allow cross platform unless it is xbox and playstation playing together, console vs pc = pc people slaughtering console. @11 I hope so, I loved half-life a lot.

	Hehehe... I'll still have the advantage of using a mouse and keyboard (I'm a veteran, not just a person with a mouse/keyboard) in the PS3 version... Hope they don't remove that. Or did they already scrapped that feature?

	That sucks, I was definitely looking forward to that feature. It won't prevent me from buying the game though. It would be amazing if they would put scoutzknivez in the game.

	I dont even really care. I will still play this, mainly because I love it on PC, and I dont mind buying it again just to see what its like on consoles.

	call me a cynic but wouldnt cross platform gaming completly erradicate the point of having different consoles? if i wanted to play a pc community id buy a pc and the same goes for xbox or ps3. jesus im glad they have scrapped it common sense prevails for once.
