DJ Hero Sequel On Its Wicky-Wicky-Way

Activision has just issued a press release for this year's MIDEM event, a music trade show where the publisher is hosting an exclusive Listening Session, giving upcoming musicians the opportunity to submit a potentially winning song which will then be mastered, mixed, "and featured in a future installment of DJ Hero."

Woah there! Re-re-rewind. What was that? A future installment of DJ Hero, you say? We'll take that as confirmation of a DJ Hero sequel then, especially given that a couple of weeks ago, popular DJ David Guetta revealed that he'd again be contributing his tunes to DJ Hero 2.

The news follows poor performance reports for the previous game, which sold just 211,000 units in November. Similarly, Activision's Tony Hawk's: Ride managed to scrape a mere 114,000 units sold in the same month.

Seems Activision will continue to make sequels to franchises that require pricey plastic peripherals anyway, despite the market not actually being there. Discuss.

I've never played DJ Hero due wholly to the fact that I refuse to buy plastic instruments any longer. I can't justify spending so much on something I'll get sick of in a month and become useless. The reason Activision can regurgitate these sequels is because they've got to be relatively cheap to make. I mean just slap on a 2, add a new mode, and you've got your sequel. Plus they don't need to sell as many copies due to the higher price of peripheral based games.

Sequel would sell better anyway assuming the original is decent (people I talked to say it's fun?). Now most people interested will have a plastic turntable to use already and just buy the actual game.

It was bound to happen. Activision has started milking yet another franchise...

Still, DJ Hero is a NEW franchise and thus having a sequel doesn't qualify it as "milking it" by now.

The 1st game is great and about 70 of the mixes are great while the rest are so-so. All in all a great purchase, and since the game is on sale at the Guitar Hero store down to $99 it is a great buy.

I'm really enjoying DJ Hero, but I'm wary of shelling out $60 for a track pack. I suppose they could add "features" like tour modes that I thought they intentionally left out of the first game. But that seems kind of cheap, too.

They really need to bring the price of DJ Hero down to like $70 to $80... something more affordable. Then once they sell enough turntables, then enough people will be able to play the game to know that the game will be worth buying. The sequel will do so much better.

They should also consider adding a mode where you can use the controller instead of a plastic instrument. At least that way video stores can rent the game!
