Dante's Inferno

Dante's Inferno Sequel Rising Out of Visceral Games?
Written Thursday, November 24, 2011 By Richard Walker

Twitter-based detective Superannuation has been at it again, this time digging up some info on a possible Dante's Inferno sequel, based upon the blog of writer Joshua Rubin, which credits him as “sole writer for a Major Unannounced Sequel”. He's also said to be helping Visceral Games in “creating a major new unannounced IP for a AAA game company.”

While this is clearly open to a variety of interpretations, the blog also features a link to the Superbowl commercial for the first Dante's Inferno, which suggests the "unannounced sequel" could be Dante's Inferno 2. But then again, it could be Visceral's Dead Space 3 too.

This is the second rumour that's pointed to Dante's Inferno 2 though, with a job description looking for an Environment Artist back in May. However, Dante's Inferno Producer Jonathan Knight told The Escapist: “I’ve read the entire Divine Comedy and I’ve given it some thought, but there are no plans”, with regard to a sequel shortly after the first game released.

So, will they or won't they be making a Dante's Inferno 2? For now, it's just a rumour, but then again, stranger things have happened.

Honestly I wouldn't mind a sequel at all, I really enjoy the first game. In fact I wanted one for a while. Oh and I want a Dead Space 3 too of course !

A sequel would be well welcomed. I wasn't really satisfied with the ending.

Dante's Inferno was supposed to be a trilogy as said by the developer anyway, so there is going to be Dante's Inferno 2 sooner or later.

The problem is that is says "creating a major new unannounced IP for a AAA game company." A new IP means that it is NOT Dante's Inferno because that's already an established IP.

Plus Dante's Inferno is hardly a AAA title.

Wait...wasn't Dante's Inferno kind of a fail with critics? I'm not saying it was a bad game, necessarily, as I've never played it and therefore can't make a pronouncement, but I thought it failed commercially and critically--seems like I always hear that it's a God of War ripoff, except boring.

Well, if it is DI2, I hope those who enjoyed the first game like it. :p

There can never be enough God of War games or God of War imitations. Let them make another one, the first was great.

@8

Kinda backwards. I loved Dante's Inferno but the God of War games are either boring are frustrating. Except for God of War III, that one I do love.

i hope it's dantes inferno 2 aswell (or would that be dantes purgatoria?) either way i loved dantes inferno, it was vastly superior to god of war (kratos is kind of a dick that i just couldn't like), plus i played dantes inferno first, it was an impulse purchase that paid off as i couldn't put it down.

DI2 would be awesome as I feel the first game was highly under rated. I am a huge GOW fan as well, so I don't mind seeing more of these games others deem as "GOW Rip Offs". The first game was great with a well written story. If DI2 becomes a reality, make a trophy for completing the hardest difficulty this time =P

Part 1 was seriously one of the worst games i've ever played (Gaming since C64).
Hopefully a part 2 will us be spared.

Im looking foward to DI2 if they keep it close to to Epic as possible while making it playable/fun also. i got the plat for Inferno when i was drunk lol. anyways, if it doesn't get made, at least i had fun with the first one. ;)

despite the fact that the first one broke story from its source material pretty strongly (which was entirely expected, of course, and logical), it was a great game, and a blast to play through and to look at. Purgatorio and Paradiso both have just as much potential, since the story has already been broken, and i would love to see what Visceral could carry through on for both of them. Dante's Purgatorio? bring it on; i'd definitely go through it.

and Dead Space 3 would be great, too. :D

well seeing how this game is supposed to be based of the books shouldn't the title of the next game be Dante's Purgatory?

Loved the first one and have nothing against it being a GoW clone, games have always been like that. The setting in DI appeals more to my tastes than GoW, greek mythology bores me and Kratos's quest for vengance got old after the first game, just like Dantes obsession with his Beatrice, still good games, just bothers me I can't jump over all of the cutscenes :p

But having read Divine Comedy a long time ago I seem to remember 2nd part being kinda low-key compared to the others, hope they do their own take on it, would even be lovely to get to got against heaven this time around since hell's been taken care of, still waiting for a game where I get to fuck up ol' J.C. & his dad (apart from my own mod of Doom back in the day of course)

In reality, wouldn't God of War be a Devil May Cry / Ninja Gaiden / Legacy of Kain rip off? Those all came before God of War.

Dante's inferno was the first game I looked out for after obtaining my ps3. The reviewers were spot on when they said the game trailed off somewhere in the middle but I love it especially the counter moves effects *schwing*.

Would look forward to the sequel very much and further explore this mythology.

aka lets make another game because the huge crap we took all over the epic poem didn't screw things up enough and we want more idiots playing this instead of reading the epic poem that unlike the game is good.

I can see them making Purgatorio, but not sure Paradiso would make much sence in this genre of gaming.

To be honest, I really enjoyed Dante's Infero, I've read the poem and I would love to see a sequel but it's kinda lame. This was Dante's tale, it was bassed on a poem/story and they completed it. I don't think there is much for another game.

It's due time to Dante's Purgatory !!!!

Really Bizarre would be to have a Dante's Heaven.
The man ravaging the paradise to be with Beatrice.

Would be God of War Vania: God-killing maniac
