Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock

Neversoft Working on First-Person Shooter

According to job listings posted on its own hiring page, Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater developer Neversoft is working on a first-person shooter in what will be a massive departure from rhythm action titles and skateboarding, unless it's a Guitar Hero FPS in which your skateboarding axe-man shoots killer riffs from his guitar.

There are several job listings over on Neversoft's recruitment site, looking to add multiplayer level designers, network programmers and others to work on a new AAA first-person shooter, GamerZines reports. And you get as many free drinks as you want, should you be hired.

This won't be Neversoft's first foray into shooter territory, as the developer previously created open-world western Gun, which was released on the PlayStation 2 in 2005. This is however, the developer's first go at making an FPS, but whether it'll be a new IP or one of Activision's existing franchises is not yet known.

Hopefully it'll be an easily accessible, fun shooter as all of the other games in the genre have forgotten the "fun" factor in their drive for realism and fanboy domination. I had high hopes for Bodycount but it turned out to be utter crap, Brink is good but has lost all support due to it's initial lag issues (now fixed and plays well).

The whole genre was started with stupidly overpowered weapons and weird/wonderful worlds, I'd love to see that mentality come back over the third version of a regurgitated modern-battle-brown-palette-redneck-loving-game (I'm slating both MW3 and BF3 btw - they're both as original as a fart-joke).

What chance does a new FPS have in the current market? We have plenty of established Modern Warfare shooters (Battlefield, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor) and plenty of sci-fi/horror shooters (Halo, Killzone, Resistance). What could they possibly offer us that's new?

I'm surprised no one here mentioned Gun. That game was developed by Neversoft. It they can remember what they've learned from that game, then they could probably make a decent shooter. Hopefully it doesn't involve war so that way there will be no comparision to Call of Duty or Battlefield.

Had enough of people comparing new shooter games to those two.
