Gamescom 2011: Gearbox’s Scott Kester Talks Borderlands 2’s Improvements, Guns, Oh, & Guns

As you’re probably aware from our Gamescom preview, Borderlands 2 is more than just about adding more guns… which although sounds cool, wouldn’t really add that much to the game.

Scott Kester, Conceptual Designer at Gearbox, joined us at Gamescom to talk about everything they’re doing in the 2012 sequel to make sure that Borderlands 2 is more than just a new story in the same ol’ world.

As well as adding more variety to the guns and creating a better mission structure, Kester tells us how they improved the skills and RPG aspects, added more elements to the story and how it’s delivered, as well making the world seem alive for the much anticipated sequel.

In what is a rather long interview, even by our standards, Kester doesn’t hold back on details or opinions on Borderlands 2… just how we like it! Don’t miss this one… it could end up being one of the biggest regrets of your life. Seriously!

Borderlands 2 is scheduled for a 2012 release.

Borderlands was great until everyone in the world got a gun that killed everything in one hit and a shield that never depleted.

@2 & 5 - You are talking about hacked weapons that only cheaters used. The hacked stuff was useful for moxxi's though.

Also if one character has the turret gun skill again or something along those lines I hope as you upgrade your skills the gun or special skill changes in looks. The turret was a great skill just wish I could of sped up the firing rate or it actually changed into a small mini gun and when I added the rocket addon it actually had the add on it fires from.

Lttle perks like that Sirens special was ok would of been great it if had slow down time bubble instead of the speed dash.

@6 True that, especially when transitioning from the smaller challenges of 5, which weren't too bad, to the larger challenges of 20 rounds with 5 waves per round. That you needed to have "special" weapons, otherwise you would die in an instant.
