Report: L.A. Noire Fails To Save Team Bondi As Dev Enters Administration

LA Noire was not only a success among the critics, but also went on to shift 4 million units since its launch in May. It's now three months down the line and reports on Australian business website SmartCompany claim that developer Team Bondi is entering into administration, with accounting firm de Vries Tayeh taking care of the process.

This follows reports that Team Bondi was negotiating a merger with Australian film company Kennedy Mitchell Miller (KMM), and rumours that the studio is selling off its assets and intellectual properties. KMM is thought to be planning a Mad Max game, which could mean jobs for ex-Team Bondi staff, who were apparently offered positions at KMM rather than severance pay.

With the studio in dire straits, going into administration could aid Team Bondi in paying its creditors, although its not actually known how the process will proceed, as for now the rumours are just that. If you're hoping to hear more about future developments for LA Noire, that will now lie with publisher Rockstar Games who still own the rights to the game.

*sigh* ohhh well..., i´m still beleive that L.A. Noire is an awesome game, at least finally i know that Rockstar still have the rights of the game, but anyway now there are chance of more DLC (or a sequel) for the game but maybe could be different (since Team Bondi will not developer the future projects)

I know there must be a lot of factors contributing to this dev's administration but you have to worry that selling 4 million units still cannot keep them afloat. What does this mean for the future of small to medium devs and more importantly fresh and original IPs. Is the games industry going to be dominated even more by a small number of mega-corporations mass producing safe and relatively cheap sequels at the expense of all else.

Not a great thought.

@ YurtleTehTurtle
A worrying prospect for sure. I do think that the massive amount of face capturing (or whatever the technique was called) added to the financial strain. Luckily, not all games from low-to-medium developers use expensive techniques such as this.

If it's true, it would also surprise me -- 4 million units is a massive amount -- but I do not see this as a sign for a bleak future.

I loved LA Noire but the reason I didn't buy it was because I wanted it to be free roam sandbox.

@8:

Team Bondi going under will have zero effect on GTA 5 as they weren't making it.

Come on, Rockstar had tons of cash from GTA and stuff. Surely they could've stepped in...

Sad to see Team Bondi go into administration, L.A.Noire was an excellent game & original at that. I'm sure the dev's will get jobs else where but there will never be another L.A.Noire again, sure R* own the rights to the game but are not Team Bondi. I would have loved to see there next game, but it will never be...

This will hopefully be a good lesson about how not to manage the development process for a game.
