Valve and co-developer Hidden Path Entertainment have confirmed that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is coming to the PlayStation Network, expanding upon the 12-year old game's famed team-based action gameplay, with new maps, new characters and weapons.

There'll also be updated versions of favourite Counter-Strike maps, like the superlative de_dust, for instance, as well as new gameplay modes, matchmaking and leaderboard support. And well, it's flippin' Counter-Strike for goodness sake! What more do you need to know?!

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Valve's Marketing VP, Doug Lombardi. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next-gen consoles and the Mac."

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo, and is scheduled to launch on the PlayStation Network in early 2012.

  • OMG THIS IS THE BEST THING I EVER HEARD!! CS ON PS3? HELL YEAAAAHHHH!!!! I hope they put some zombies mod in it too that would be awefuckingsome!
  • @1 you should not be too excited, the console version will not have mods.
  • Oh well... at least we'll get to play cs on ps3!.. I thought that day would never come!
  • hope its good and not like the version they tried to release for the orginal xbox which sucked. i still play it on the PC every once and a while.
  • Never heard of this.. :/ What kind of game is it?
  • @5 Counter-strike is considered as the grand-father of online fps and its been running for 12 years or 13 I'm not sure At first it was only a modification of the game called Half-life (the same company that made portal 2,Valve)And it became viral and everyone was like cs this cs that cs-cs-cs! Youtube it and you'll see by yourself
  • @5 Trolling or being serious? The counterstrike is amazing! And I am very excited about this, I hope you can use mouse and keyboard with this as it would make my day, not meaning that I wouldn't want it on Pc, but I just like things on consoles, everything's more neat and tidier :) .
  • @5 You are one of the only people i have met, who dont know what Counterstrike is :/
  • Counterstrike is amazing* Take out the 'The'. Sorry for double posting, had to correct myself :P .
  • Seriously it made my days! Sorry for multiple post But I'm playing cs since the very first beta 0.01 where the door in de_aztec were like 10 times their actual size lol and when you could headshot and enemy with the knife.. oooohh reminds me a lot of good things
  • ive been waiting for a proper sony/valve colaboration since the shitty version of orange box was released
  • I just played CS 1.6 a few weeks ago at a LAN party. Can't wait to try a demo of the PS3 version to see if makes a good conversion. I assume this will be more like CS Source (which I never played on PC), so it would also be nice if we get a Steam copy like we did with Portal 2. ^_^
  • Online this is decent enough but the single player is dull.
  • @12 Including steam in this story would be a huge mistake. They fucked it up at start on PC when they closed Valve's servers and by banishing every one who once cheated on THEIR own server, they did that to me lol had no choice but to rebuy and other copy of half life just to keep playing on steamshit
  • This is going to kick ass! Day one for me so you better all watch your backs!!!!
  • Holy moses, never thought CS would be coming to ps3. This should be interesting.
  • CS is not a very good game... : /
  • Good Gawd!!!! This is the best news I have heard since my PC died back in 2007 and I had to buy a PS3 lol :D This game is going to be seriously epic - And as Valve and Sony are best friends, expect to see cross-platform play (PC/PS3 only mind) Woop woop this news has really made my day :'D
  • @13 The single player was part of condition zero. The real game was in 1.6 and CSS :D As this is headed to PSN, I suspect it will ONLY be online ;) - Like BF1943. :D
  • Awesome news. I haven't played CS since like 1.5
  • Some mods (even if those will be DLC mods, hope most of them will be free or at small price like 2$-5$) would be very nice. However I not any kind of pro of CS ( cause I only tried bot version on some very old CS, didn't have internet on my computer that time), so I'll probably will always be on the bottom of the chart. Maybe I won't be alone... Anyways I've played other shooters with controllers, so it wont be a problem! :) Great release! PS. Guys, how do you think, how much money this game will get in first 2 days?
  • First day buy
  • wow that's some real news, wonder if it will have cross-platform play
  • awesome loved this game back in the day didnt think the day would ever come but finally it will hit the PS3 cant wait hope its just as awesome
  • Alright! Definitely getting Counter-Strike! I'm glad that Valve is giving PlayStation a second chance since Portal 2. :D
  • Wow, this is GREAT news! I was a CS junkie for many years. I would still love to go back to de_aztec on CS 1.6 andfire some AK rounds through double doors. So many enjoyable hours spent on that game. This will be day 1 purchase for me.
  • i hope its the same deal as we got with portal2
  • @Everyone asking for this to be like Portal 2: It probably won't outside of maybe cross platform play. Te Steam copy I can't see happening as CS:GO will be released over PSN, not a physical disc. I do hope they incorporate in the Steam aspects again though. That would definitely be a nice touch. Anyway. I'm really hoping this will support split screen and bots. I played CS 1.5 quite a bit (It told me my key wasn't valid so I could never update to 1.6 to play on Steam... Oh well. Ran unofficial servers and still got to play online. Was a blast.)and a major part of the fun was loading up bots and playing via LAN with friends/family. Split screen would be welcome though more than just LAN as it's more convenient to sit down next to your teammate while playing. At any rate, I'm extremely excited to see CS come to PS3.
  • When you hear an AWP go off, its already too late...
  • @28...But Steam copies don't have physical disks. Besides, there's already a listing for CS:GO on Steam. Now, whether it has Steam functionality on the PS3 is another story. http://store.steampowered.com/app/1800/?snr=1_4_4__13
