Belgian indie developer Larian Studios has announced Dragon Commander, a massive game of dragon combat that's one part turn-based strategy, one part RPG and all dragon. Set in the developer's Divinity universe, Dragon Commander promises an Art Noveau/Steampunk style, as you take on the role of the legendary first Dragon Knights. You'll assume command of vast armies consisting of wizards, engineers and the titular scaly beasts mounting huge war campaigns alongside friends and allies. Once the enemy enters your vicinity, you'll then engage in some dragon combat, where power, speed and tactics will be the key to victory. "We’ve been dreaming about a project like this for many years, and fresh from the success of our latest game we realised that there is nothing that holds us back any longer. The new game blends together our favourite genres and themes, something that is not easy - but the resulting gameplay experience is very rewarding, and it’s also a lot of fun to make," said Swen Vincke, Dragon Commander’s Game Director. "We have role-playing, we have strategy, we have exploration… and we have plenty of dragons. We also feel that we have finally discovered how dragon combat can work well in a game. We’re pretty much breaking new ground here, and we’re very much determined to surprise the players with what we’ll offer in this game!" Dragon Commander will be swooping onto consoles in 2012.
