Effective from Monday August 8th, the current head of the EA Sports label, Peter Moore has been promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer, replacing John Schappert who recently departed from Electronic Arts to join social games behemoth and Farmville creator, Zynga.

Moore's promotion will have a domino effect within EA, as the company also reshuffles the structure of its various labels established in 2007. So, now President of EA Games Frank Gibeau will become President of the EA Labels, which consists of EA Games, EA Sports, EA Play and BioWare.

Executive Vice President of EA Interactive, Barry Cottle will now oversee EA Mobile, Playfish, Hasbro, Pogo and PopCap, once the PopCap acquisition closes. CEO John Riccitiello will continue to tighten EA costs and improve the quality of games being put out by the company, stating in an employee message that EA's progress since 2007 has been "incredible".

"Not all of it was easy but looking back, it was exactly the right structure and priorities for the challenges we faced," writes Riccitiello. "The changes included hundreds of job cuts. Now, we are switching from defense to offense. We're focusing on building our intellectual properties/franchises into year-round business. We've established our own platform, Origin, and we continue to grow our digital business."
