Sony Sinking $20 Million into PSN Exclusive Games

Sony prides itself on bringing innovative and unique games to the PlayStation Network, and with titles like Flower, the PixelJunk series, Fat Princess and Joe Danger, the PSN has delivered some pretty great stuff over the years. But Sony isn't resting on its laurels and so has today announced plans to invest $20 million into exclusive PSN games over the next three years.

"So what does this mean for you as a gamer? It means more unique, fun, innovative, edgy and higher quality game experiences on PSN that you won’t find anywhere else!" exclaims the announcement post on the US PlayStation Blog. The first titles that are part of this three-year plan are quirky PSN games Eufloria, Okabu and Papo & Yo,which have already garnered accolades at this year's E3.

"Under this investment, we’re committed to delivering titles that have innovative gameplay mechanics, vibrant visuals, interesting storylines and an artistic element to interactive entertainment that can only be found on PlayStation Network," concludes the post. Lovely stuff. Look forward to more idiosyncratic and quirky PSN titles in the future.

Good to hear really its one thing Xbox shines at and that is there live games and well cross game voice chat lol nice to see something being done on Sony's part to help smooth the gap.

I've stuck with Playstation for the exceptional exclusive titles, frankly Halo and Gears of War never impressed me. Yeah, I've now became a Playstation fanboy but I still love my exclusive titles, and it keeps the new gamers here too!

... Twenty million in todays industries is not really much. So, I'm not really feeling a need to get "giddy" about such news. It seems like we're getting two indy style/themed games, and I'm sure that is about all we'll see. Unless somehow we're lucky enough to get one more title. I just don't see the enthusiasm. Meh.

@8 You're right $20 million isn't much - but if you look at it from a small developer's point of view... say Sony says we'll give you X amount of money for development cost if you become Sony exclusive - might be worth it - if you can also sell those games through the PlayStation store for mobile devices too

probably not since they are PSN titles. I have never played a PSN title that made you buy an online pass.

@ 12 Most games are coming with online pass that you have to buy if you get the game used. Like Dead Space 2, Homefront, Mortal Kombat and many more needs a pass. Most likely these sort of games will not require one

In todays market small dev's companys will jump at the chance to make games, and I bet we will see some good PSN games over the next few years.

Both games look like a combination of fun and cute. I'll most likely be getting both. :3 what can I say, I'm a sucker for cute things.
