The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition 1 & 2 Heading to PSN [Updated]

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition 1 & 2 Heading to PSN [Updated]
Written Wednesday, March 10, 2010 by Dan Webb

In a short, but sweet "tweet" from LucasArts a matter of minutes ago, the publisher announced that the recent HD revamp of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition which was released on the PC and Xbox Live Arcade would be coming to the PSN.

The tweet stated, "Announcement one: Secret of Monkey Special Edition on PSN and Mac."

No dates. No prices. Just know it's coming... and it's ever so good!

If their next tweet is anything to go by, then we could also be seeing LeChuck's Revenge in the future as well.

In a follow up tweet, they stated, "LeChucks Revenge: Special Edition is official! New puzzles, new enemies, new hair!"

We assume they'll do the PC and XBLA port first and then work on the PS3 and Mac after, like they did with with the first revamp. Obviously that's speculation. We'll let you know when we hear more.

[Update:] Joystiq who are attending the LucasArts GDC party have just confirmed that this will see PSN release, as suspected.

They also report that according to the publisher, the new version will receive a new control mechanism that allows you to "move Guybrush around, so you feel more connected to him."

Of course, the other special edition treatment is also on the cards.

Happy days!

When it comes out, I'll be plundering it for the trophies. I played the original Secret of Monkey Island all the way to the end, years ago, so it should be relatively simple to get all the trophies... unless they come up with some that are completely off the wall, though how you could get much farther off the wall than the original game is beyond me :)

Don't forget Full Throttle! And The Dig, I remember the atmosphere of that game being awesome. I actually sat down a couple months ago and watched the whole game on YouTube... Would have done the same with Full Throttle if I could find a playthru that wasn't run by an idiot who's idea of trial and error was try the same thing over and over and over again, while talking to himself.
