MotorStorm Apocalypse Delayed Out Of Respect For Victims of Japan Earthquake

Sony has decided to delay the release of MotorStorm Apocalypse in New Zealand and Japan out of respect for those affected by the recent earthquakes in both regions. The delay has also been extended to the UK.

Japan has been affected most recently by a devastating earthquake that caused a huge tsunami, leaving 10,000 missing and presumed dead.

"We are shocked and saddened to see the impact of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and our thoughts are with all those affected, including our colleagues within the Sony family, living and working throughout Japan," a statement from Sony released to Eurogamer reads.

"We are very conscious of the parallels between these events and the underlying theme in MotorStorm and are doing everything we can to be as sensitive as possible to the situation," the statment continues. "Although the game itself is already in distribution, we are ceasing any further shipments and removing as much of the marketing materials as possible."

MotorStorm Apocalypse will eventually see release in the UK and elsewhere, but given the severity and tragic nature of current events, you can hardly blame Sony for delaying the game.

This is fair enough, I'm really looking forward to this, the timing would have not been the best.

Major props to Sony for sacrificing potential sales to play a role in comforting the people of Japan in a time when they need any help they can get. M$ would be too concerned with the sales and probably put billboards up in the areas the Tsunami struck the worst.

Sony has donated 300 million Yen and 30000 radios to support efforts and has tempoarily closed its BD factories to assess damage of their plants. Nintendo has also donated 300m Yen and Sega 200m Yen.

Still dont agree with the decision to delay it in the UK.....The earthquake hasnt had a great enough effect over here to justify delaying it.....but oh well, will just have wait a bit longer....

God some of you people are idiots, its delayed in the uk as a mark of respect for the lives lost in Japan, god there are some ignorant people about, all you care about is the fact the game is delayed and not the fact such a great race of people have been hit by tragedy!

I'm sorry for ranting, the game is due for April 12th release in the US, I would imagine the UK gets it on the 15th of April!

My condolances to those lost in the tragedy fo Japan Quake MAR 11/11...

I totally agree with @14 I would happily hand over my playstation and all my games if it would help them save lives (not like it would but you get what I mean) so don't moan about delays or if the playstation 4 is cancelled etc. Lives are more important than toys

Im sure Im going to get my head bitten off for saying this, but I cant help myself when I see so many people throwing 'kudos' and 'props' to Sony for this move.

Obviously, I dont doubt that they do have sympathy for the people... but lets not be naive, people.

Theyre doing this more for the fact that they know that it isnt going to sell given the disaster. So theyre going to stop distribution and marketing until it would make more sense to continue it. It isnt just because they dont want to seem insensitive.

It is sad what has happened, but as Motorstorm has an underlying theme with what going on. You would of thought thay would of delayed the game all together.

I have to admit; as soon as I heard about everything in Japan I was devastated But all these people who say we are moaning because a toy is delayed should keep their mouth shut before telling people to stop moaning. I send my condolences to everyone in Japan and I think sony are a good company for delaying the title but in the end why delay it in the UK if they are not going to delay it in the USA and other parts of europe. If anybody knows why sony are not delaying it in the usa yet the uk please let me know because I just don't understand what is going on anymore.

I'm totally with Sony on this one. The game's got Apocalypse in the title and has themes which run along the lines of an apocalypse too. It was due to be released around the same time a substantial portion of Japan gets decimated by an earthquake, tsunami and now potential nuclear meltdown. So why delay it in the UK? What happened in Japan has nothing to do with us, right? Wrong. We're not insensitive bastards (for the most part) and appreciate that while a country's in tatters we're not going to capitalise on games with apocalyptic themes. And this will have quite an impact on our economy too.
We play the games which they create, on consoles they create, viewed on televisions which... they create. We drive their cars, read their manga, watch their anime (and I know a lot of you do). We c

We cook, clean and communicate with devices which - more often than not - are made by the Japanese.
So when their country produces a game which would be damn right insensitive to release *anywhere* after such an event you need not bitch and moan.
And why not just scrap it? Because Sony is a business. A Japanese one. And businesses need money. I don't know how much it would cost them to not release the game in the said areas around the world, but as their company's going to be running at a loss right now due to electricity rationing, donating 300,000,000 Yen and such like, they're going to need all the funds they can get once Japan picks itself back up.

The Christchurch earthquake was a nightmare for us. Seeing the Japan one was even worse. I see no reason for a game to be delayed at all. It isn't going to change anything for the cost of life in these events.

*Picks up mop*

Can we please keep this on topic? Any discussions about the wars on Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and Palestine, 9/11, terrorism in general, Bush, Obama, what Microsoft would or wouldn't do, or anything not related to earthquakes and tsunamis will be deleted, so please leave them at the door.

And to the guy that brought up the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, so not the time when Japan is facing a nuclear disaster.

Keep it on topic and keep it respectful. People have died, are suffering, and others that survived have lost everything. The least that Sony (a Japanese company) can do is delay a video game.

i understand why they have done this, but i personally think they could have still released it. All they had to do was donate a percentage of the game sales towards the rebuilding of the disaster, rather than delaying it
