James Bond 007: Blood Stone

An Affectionate Farewell to Bizarre Creations (1994-2011)

As Bizarre Creations closes it doors forever from today, there's a fitting farewell to watch, marking an end to the studio behind such racing greats as the Project Gotham franchise, Metropolis Street Racer and Blur, as well as the superlative Geometry Wars and the last 007 game, Blood Stone, which unfortunately had a lukewarm reception upon its release.

Bizarre Creations' video editor, Eamon Urtone has made an affectionate tribute to his former studio, with a short trailer showing the developer's finest moments in recent years, from PGR 4 on Xbox 360 to The Club, Blur and Blood Stone.

Founded in 1994, the Liverpool-based Bizarre Creations first made waves with Formula One on the original PlayStation, before moving on to make MSR on SEGA's Dreamcast. That game then went on to set the template for the developer's most fondly-regarded racer, the PGR franchise, which regrettably never made it to PS3, as Microsoft owns the IP.

Its arcade shooter, Geometry Wars and its sequel also received plaudits from every gamer with a pulse, while later experiments like The Club for SEGA and Blur for Activision, fell somewhat short of expectations. James Bond 007: Blood Stone will go down in history as Bizarre's last game, which is a shame.

Take a look at the video and try your best not to cry. We'll always have Bizarre Creations' games after all...

im going to get blood stone if the servers remain up for two reasons: the first one being tribute to bizzare, the second, i like to play james bond games and get platinum trophies on them.

also i dont know why everyone hates activision. they are a company, which means they want to maximize their profits. if they arent making a billion dollars a game like each call of duty rakes in annualy, then they cut the studio that is not making them enough money or in some instances losing money. thus even though the quality of the games bizarre put out were great. it wasnt making them enough money.

I never got a chance to try Bloodstone. Black Ops came out the next week and so many other games hit the shelves around that time as well. Activision seemingly shot themselves in the foot. It's like Namco games. I swear to God they have someone sitting around the office saying "Hey (insert AAA title)is coming out this day! Lets try and compete with it. WE CAN TAKE 'EM! RAWR."

Anyhow. Goodbye Bizarre :( Sad I never got to see Geo Wars3 : Cubed.

Im assuming from the comments activision owns the studio, but why couldn't they sell it to someone else, if that's even possible...there must have been an alternative to just shutting it.

So a company that really hasn't contributed anything noteworthy to the gaming industry has folded? Wow...color me surprised.

f1 for psx is the only thing decent on that list the club was pathetic, PGR 1 was ok but the franchise never made it better than ok, Blur was like a mix between burnout and mario kart and blood stones graphics near made my eyes bleed, the voice acting was horrendous and the gameplay was kinda ok once you got used to it, all in all not a succesful company no wonder activision canned them

@7 it could be an option, but i belive its shut these people down and move them to work on something else kinda thing? Like "Stop doing Guitar Hero and you work on cod dlc!" kinda thing? They did lay some people off, but if I understood from the podcasts i listened to not everyone got released.

Geometry Wars 1 & 2 are excellent shooters, i cannot believe there not on the PSN sadly. Bizarre have made some top racers in there time, i'am surprised Blur did not do as well as it should of. It's ashame Bizarre has been closed.

@ 7 and 11

They did try to sell, but nobody would buy them. The deadline was Friday 18th. Alot of the staff have been let go. I thought Microsoft may buy them actually, but I guess they wasn't interested.

Shame really, a solid developer which made some good games...nothing AAA but still good games.

Correct me if Im wrong, but now that Bizzare is gone, Buying bloodstone wont help the Dev's at all and will only help Activision. Seems pretty ironic to buy the game from the people who shut the studio down, because they shut the studio down.

@8: Really? You don't have facts to say this because you didn't PGR, MSR or Blur, because they were excellent games (although I didn't play the two first).
So after posting think really what are you saying.
@19: Now, you know them... dead.

Farewell Bizarre!

This makes me sad. I very much enjoyed PGR,Geometry Wars 1+2, and Blur. Like othes said they weren't AAA games, but they were fun games and that's what matters to true gamers :D

I've honestly never heard of them before Blood Stone. They were certainly no Naughty Dog, but it's sad to see a developer disappear. Hopefully they'll find work elsewhere.

None of their titles ever lured me in, but I still hate to see a talented studio go down, especially because of the whims of a money-hungry CEO, but that's what you get living in a neo-liberal capitalistic economy...

even though the graphix was severly lacking I sure miss the mindset of the shareware gaming industry of yore where it was all about creating good gameplay, instead of big bucks for a guy you never meet...snork...
